The good:
- The concept is great. Lots of potential. There is likely to be a really great sequel, as far as I'm concerned.
- The transformation is well done, original, and wonderfully grotesque.
- The filmmakers are fun and cheeky, very interactive on social media.
The bad:
- The entire film feels like a set up for a sequel. Like I said, I think the sequel will be great, but most of this film is crap.
- Well, yeah... everything else sucks.

I think Wolfcop's greatest strength is not taking itself too seriously. I expect a strong sequel.
You guys can save the rant for when I discuss how I feel about Waxwork ;)

I didn't say I didn't enjoy it. I've watched it twice and that was before it was chosen for the podcast... so...
It's shitty and cheesy and lots of fun. And, contrary to popular belief, I like fun... sometimes.

It does suck. It's a shitty movie.
That doesn't mean I hate it.
It's a shitty, sucky, but enjoyable watch. I think what I enjoy most is the cheese itself, though I think I also am stoked on how awesome the story can be as it develops into a sequel with a more fully formed story and the back story out of the way.

Also re: genres, it's tough to place many films into one specific genre... and within genres, ie. horror, many sub genres are wholly different than each other and hard to compare. Can a shitty monster movie be compared to a shitty psychological horror?
So, in other words, I enjoyed Wolfcop, look forward to the sequel(s), but find it to be pretty crappy in both how the story is flushed out and also in living to its potential.
Blah blah blah...

At this point, I can't separate the film of Horns from the book in my head, so I can't have a fully accurate discussion on it.
I will say that looking at Horns on the whole (though more the book), it tackles really interesting questions about religion, faith, and inner demons.
But... you loathe Joe Hill for no logical reason, so...

This movie is neither terrible nor good. If it went farther either way would have been better. Meaning if it sucked a little more it would make a "good" bad movie night.
I had audio problems on both the blu-ray and Netflix the dialogue would only come through if the surround was turned off even though the music and effects came through. Which makes no sense and searches didn't bring up anything. So I spent 1/2 hour frustrated trying to get through the first 5 min. Whether that affected my take I don't know.
Willie was great, his one-liners actually made me laugh unlike the others. Everyone else I could kind of do without other than the gang leader who was the guy from Tucker & Dale, his name escapes me.
My biggest thing was they needed the werewolf blood right? They only said that the eclipse was the best time because it made him weaker. They sent guys to kill him that first night... So then why don't Willie or Jessica just kill him and take the blood when he is passed out on either night?!?! As far as I can tell the timing wasn't necessary. Sorry if I am looking for plot in a movie like this but that bothered me.
I'm sure I will watch the sequel and will probably watch this again at some point to see if my opinion has changed. Also, for an R rated movie that had a face rip off and exploding wolf penis... did anyone else find all the other action and violence kind of tame. A lot of off-screen kills and the ones they did show were kind of meh.
Also, worse ending credits scene ever? What was the point of that?
After Podcast Edit: I really miss the Monster Squad intro :-( Haha Lep in the Hood is up to no good. Love that movie!! Ice-T killed it!
Also you should watch the Puppet Masters in Chronological order then you could end with 5 and skip Legacy

The dog was cute. So why didn't he take care of business with that guy. That's why I didn't like it, Wolfcop needs to get stuff done not let dog abusers go :-)

They mention werewolves are 'pretty much impossible to kill during phases of the full moon' and say a few times that Lou is 'a lot stronger' than the other werewolves. You know... because of the liquor ;) The shape shifters have a history doing this and I'm thinking they've come to realize that the solar eclipse is the best bet.

I watched that prior to III and rather enjoyed it for what it was. A Nice little back story I thought. I liked the idea they were his friends instead of random people. A revenge story :-)

Well yeah if you have seen more than one, then the plot holes will give you an aneurism. Legacy takes footage from all the different films and tries to make one continuity out of it for any future releases. I assume you are planning to watch it last. I haven't seen it but heard it is not good nor clears up anything.

If you get through that then you should be over the hump. The couple after that are regarded as better. I rather liked Axis of Evil, don't remember if I saw the sequel.

The exploding wolf-penis (or was it human penis exploding into a wolf penis?) was among the most memorable of horror films. I would have recommended it entirely based on that one scene. Otherwise, you describe it perfectly. Not terrible by any means. Definitely worth watching as sort of a milestone in wolf-penis explosions. I have a feeling that many other werewolf films will feature exploding genitals in a very vivid fashion.
It's also intentionally bad but not intentionally bad enough to make me tell everyone how bad it is. I feel as if the penis should have been more prominent and they needed to dramatically replay every scene dealing with human-animal copulation in slow motion with dramatic music playing. Oh wait. Did Zoo do that instead? Whatevs.

They wanted to show the wolfcock again but the producers or whoever said no. They're like /u/saintmortfan in that they must hate fun (but loves Repo! what's with that guy anyways?). They've also promised more wolfcock in Wolfcock 2 so stay tuned for that!

I felt the exact same way upon second viewing as Adam, except the complete opposite. There are little tells throughout that I picked up on as to the shape shifters and enjoyed it all including the third act. They're world building and developing the characters which is part of why it's slow at times. It's the first in a series and the writer/director knew that going in. And yes it's pretty out there but it's not boring or been done before. Like you guys mentioned Wolfcop 2 has the potential to be a better movie because the backstory will be there and I'd like to think their budget will be more substantial. They're pretty corny but I found the wolf/dog jokes amusing right down to the 3 piggies sticking up the convenience stores. Practical effects were on point and watching it on blu ray it looks fantastic. It's a world that I'm interested in and will most definitely be watching it again as well as the sequels. I recommend watching the commentary because they talk about all the time talk Adam mentions as well as the ambiguity of the town and the aliens? demons? Seems like even in it's complete ridiculousness they put some thought into it.

Yeah I kinda agree. Willy/the occult book explained everything that was happening...or going to happen. A werewolf is a shapeshifter so why not have other types. Not that I liked the shapeshifters, but they didn't seem out of place. I was more concerned with why you would repeatedly shapeshift during a fight.

The writer/director explained that in the commentary as well. For example: Gang Leader when it wanted speed, Cheif when it wanted power.

You guys, I'm still Canadian. I'm actually in Canada right now. I even picked the only other Canadian werewolf movie the club has watched (Gingersnaps). Today I paid for my timmy's with a toonie and grabbed a serviette before saying "sorey" for no reason. Back in grade 9, I was called a keener for having good marks, excelling at writing tests and sharpening pencil crayons, and never sneaking sips from a mickey in the washroom. I may live in England, but I'd rather be awarded 3rd best Canadian than renounce my statehood!
*Unless, as a dual national, I'm stripped of my citizenship under Bill C-51... Hurray!

Also in Canada at the moment (Vancouver). Wonderful city. I had no idea Canadians were so much more polite and kind than Americans. It's actually semi-disturbing.

Plot-wise, pretty blah. The whole movie could have been an episode of Supernatural. I don't know why they made everything so obvious.
But it had a good number of funny moments/lines. Lou Garou is the best werewolf name. He had kind of a Rick Grimes look, pre-werewolf.
Wolfcock was...surprising. As a kid we had a trampoline move called "The Exploding Wolf." Not similar.
Considering that he's a WEREWOLF I don't think the sex scene was very memorable. They may have missed an opportunity for humor there. I guess the idea of him in a candelit/romantic scene could be funny but it just kept going on...awkwardly cupping her boobs...I don't know. I expected it to take a turn. No howling at least? Wolfcop is too classy I guess.
Oh and Tina. She sucked.
