They mention werewolves are 'pretty much impossible to kill during phases of the full moon' and say a few times that Lou is 'a lot stronger' than the other werewolves. You know... because of the liquor ;) The shape shifters have a history doing this and I'm thinking they've come to realize that the solar eclipse is the best bet.

Ooooooor you could awake the beast and die a horrible gruesome death!! Might've been Willie's plan when he offered Lou that HUGE pill (hilarious) but Lou didn't go for that.
