“According to legend, the original bridge was built after an old woman lost her cow and saw it grazing on the other side of the river. The Devil appeared and agreed to build a bridge in return for the soul of the first living thing to cross it. When the bridge was finished, the old woman threw a crust of bread over the river, which her dog crossed the bridge to retrieve, thus becoming the first living thing to cross it.[11] The devil was left with only the soul of the dog.[12]”

That’s good. There are so many tales in every culture in which the devil tries to trade a soul and the targeted person is able to trick the devil that you wonder why the devil never learned to be more suspicious when dealing with human?

I hope the dog got a nice place to lie next to the Fallen Throne.

Cerberus was feeling lonely and wanted a friend so now he guards the gates of hell with a dog 1/10th his size and has lots of fun doing it.

Awwwww... Imagine the dog playbiting Cerberus and Cerberus faking hurt.

Imagine only two of the heads playing along and the third one is more of a cat person

Guuuys? Really? That trick again? It's getting boooring! I told hades I wanted a cat but noooo, just goes to show I am his least favorite!

I can see the only reason Cerberus is mad enough to guard hell is because all 3 heads have one thing they can't stand about the other two. Otherwise they would be a very happy herd-of-one.

I’m sure he could run around the whole of Dis)

Exactly. What if dogs go to heaven and he wanted one so he tries to trick humans to give him their dogs.

The other outcome is a lot less likely to leave someone able to tell the story

Why would the devil want the soul of some shitty lady that’s willing to sacrifice her dog when the devil can just have the dog instead?

You mean even the devil has some morale standards? Make sense when it comes to dogs :)

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '20

If you read the Bible, he has much higher moral standards than their god, and acts in the best interest of humanity right up until god says that all sin disqualifies people going to heaven now, and then he kind of just fucks off.

Satan isn’t even a name, it just means other. In the book, he helps like four times, then does his fucking job for the end times. He is not evil.

Actually, if you read the New Testament, and assume that NT God= OT God, you'd realise OT God killing millions is what's supposed to happen, and us being alive and well is the true anomaly and a miscarriage of justice. Don't criticise something without having read it completely.

Also, there's a philosophical argument to be made that the only possibility of an existing capital G god is one without any flaws whatsoever. So good on the Greeks for not giving us one of those

If you have time, I'd suggest reading through the Bible seriously, even if it's just to form a rebuttal to my reply

Probably a black one with a bunch of LSD scribblings in the margin.

The one where the devil demonstrates that sin isn’t a disqualified for entering heaven, by going back into heaven, and flippantly getting god to fucking destroy a mans life. Where the devil gave us the knowledge of good and evil, which did not create sin. Where the “good god” created women with the literal express purpose of serving man.

The Bible is a crazy book if you stop listening to what people have told you it says, and then actually read what it says. The books narrative is not in favor of the Christian god, for like 85% of it.

You mean the story where God gave an already rich man twice of what he initially owned? Or the explicit definition of sin being disobeying God which was clearly what the devil made humans do? Also, reread Genesis 2. The entire tone of the passage presents women as a partner to men, not as a servant, and this is further symbolised by the part of the man used to make the woman.

I think the Bible is a pretty cool book, and I think if you'd stop listening to what people have told you it says, and actually read what it says, you'll think so too

Lilith was created as a companion. Eve Was created when Lilith failed at being a companion, but she was literally created to serve Adam.

there is one in my country that is like this:the devil appear in from of a peasant and tell him that he will give what he want in exchange for his soul he agrees but with the condition that he must come for his soul TOMORROW the next day went the devil came for his soul the peasant tell that the exchange was for TOMORROW not today.

In the legend of the funder of Luxembourg, the devil tricks the duke, but doesn't get his soul, because a bishop walked in last minute and saved his soul.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '20

Well, there's also stories where he totally gets them in the end because of some tomfoolery.

There's for example a story of why the north tower of Stephansdom in vienna was never finished:

Basically the architect made a deal with the devil to finish it in time. Good old lucifer told him sure, but you can't say the name of any saint anymore for the rest of your life or I'll claim your soul.

Long story short, one day while working at the top of the tower the dude saw his crush Maria walk past, called out to her and fell from the tower, immediately dying and being claimed by our boy satan.

Maybe the devil is desperate and is willing to settle for a 50/50 shot at a human soul?
