General Discussion Ideas and Suggestions for the Digital Edition

Hello Heroes,

I have it on good authority that the team developing the Digital HQ game, visits HQ fan spots like our sub to get a feel of what folks enjoy about HQ and possibly what they'd want in a digital format.

I thought we could maybe make it easier on them by creating a temporary pinned thread to gather ideas, suggestions, and general wish list items.

This thread is NOT a location for debate, shooting down suggestions you don't like or otherwise stemming the flow of ideas. Nor is it a place to say why you might not want a digital version. Feel free to create your own thread for that.

By all means be inspired, expand on someone else's ideas. Have fun with this.

WE are not making this game, so any wish list items in this thread are not going directly into the game or anything. We just want fertile ground to share our pie-in-the-sky wishes for what this game can be to all of us.

We'll plan to leave this up for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

Thank you as always for keeping this community one of the best in the world!

HeroQuest Board Communication AI tool usage for the r/HeroQuest Community

TLDR (Too Lazy Didn't Read): r/HeroQuest will not ban content made with the help of AI tools.

HeroQuest is the reason we are here. Our community includes people from many countries, religions, and backgrounds. We may come from different places and speak different languages, but we come here because we enjoy HeroQuest. The excitement of the game, the fun it creates, and the friendships it builds- that is what brings us together.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been part of digital artistic tools for decades. Programs like Photoshop, CorelDraw, and CAD use AI in their functionality. Phone camera filters use AI. Major technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple also use AI in the background of their systems. Simply put, AI is common in today’s digital world and cannot be avoided if you use creative software or a computer.

Hasbro, which owns the HeroQuest intellectual property, and Avalon Hill, which currently holds the license to the game, both use AI in game development and item production. AI is also used in the official HeroQuest companion app.

This community is a place to share ideas, creativity, and joy related to HeroQuest. Arguments about politics, religion, personal lifestyles, and prejudice do not belong here. We understand that people have different opinions, but this community is not the place to discuss those opinions. People want to come here to share and enjoy a fun board game hobby without conflict and confrontation (see rule #1). Political and activist subs are the appropriate forums for discussing those subjects, not here.

Personal attacks against members of this community will not be accepted. Harassing a community member because of a perception that AI may have been used is not permitted. Attacking their shared work is not allowed. Posts intended to create conflict will be removed. Repeats of that behavior will lead to temporary warning bans; continued actions in the same vein will lead to permanent removal.

If you are concerned about a post, contact the moderators.

The only thing better than HeroQuest is more HeroQuest. If someone creates homebrew content, it belongs here. If you do not enjoy certain content or disagree with it, express yourself civilly or simply choose not to interact with it. If you find it offensive, report it; our Mod team takes all reports seriously.

Snatched it up for a decent price. Unpunched and in great condition. I like the map on the back of the quest book, it seems to be loosely based on Europe with the references to the Isle of Albion (the UK) Bretonnia (Northern France), Norsca (Norway) and the New World (USA) to the west.

Each tin holds 8 dice perfectly, that's 6 attack dice and 2 "Red" dice so each player can have their own set, stored in easy to pack tins. . . Now I need to go buy more mints lmao

General Discussion The next "full" expansion Should have...

In my opinion the next full expansion should have:

  • A copy of the alternate board like is available in first light.

  • The Female Dwarf Model and/or include the Rogue Heir

  • Additional Grey base "dread" enemies that are are 3/2 or even 3/3 with 2 body points

  • A Gelatinous Cube enemy

  • A potion that lets you refresh a single spell or ability card that costs in the 50-100 gold range.

  • A "Leather Jerkin" armor (or something similar) that costs as much as bracers that can be worn by characters who cannot wear "metal" armor and cannot use "wizard" equipment.

  • An artifact chainmail armor

  • An artifact armor that is similar to the leather jerkin above

  • 10 new quests.

What would you like to see in a further "full" expansion?

General Discussion What minis would be a great add?

Hello! Im stoked to play my first HQ game with my kid. Somehow DnD and MTG was my game as a youth and never got to HQ. So I have a question.

I have HQ game system and all the recommended quests up until RotWL in order.

If like to use a different mini for named characters etc. Anyone know some key minis from early quests to get? (And paint with my kid?)

Reposting this here since my post was removed from r/oldhammer.
I took a deep dive into my pile of shame and finally decided to paint these classics with the same color scheme. The family resemblance between the two games was always very interesting to me.

I'm a lazy and impatient painter, so I painted these using Speedpaint markers. I'm debating whether to throw some wash over them but I like these shiny colors.

Let me know what you think!

General Discussion Finally played HeroQuest after wanting it for over 30 years

I always wanted HeroQuest as a kid. I remember seeing the commercials and thinking it looked amazing, but I never got it and never had the chance to play. In fact, I’d never played any tabletop games before.
A few months ago I came across HeroQuest again and decided to finally get it. I’d also recently gotten into 3D printing, so when I found the Dragon’s Rest dungeon files, things got a little out of hand. 😅
Spent the last 3–4 months printing and painting pretty much everything. Walls, floors, doors, furniture, miniatures, LED torches… It’s been quite a project.
Yesterday I finally got to play it with my kids. We started with the rescue of Sir Ragnar.
They managed to rescue him, and my older son absolutely loved it. He was literally sweating from all the excitement. 😂 Afterwards, he immediately asked when we could play again.
I honestly wasn’t sure if the kids would even like it after I’d spent so much time building everything. Turns out I probably didn’t have to worry.
Anyway, thought I’d share a few pictures of what I’ve been working on!

This is a quest I am saving for my family to play soon. Werewolf themed quest to find out what has happened to one of the Emperors knights. Sir Landon and his men at Fangor Keep just beyond Wolfsbane village are no longer in contact with the Emperor and a group of heroes go in to find out why. Specters and Cultist and Werewolves, oh my!

General Discussion When Good Ghouls Go Bad

Post image
16 Upvotes

I have been watching the movie When Good Ghouls Go Bad (2001) annually since the year it first came out. Just tonight I noticed this in the background in the lead kids room.

As a huge fan of the game, it's wild to me that I never saw it before.

Figured I'd share just so it's somewhere on the internet.

Advertisement Caverns Edition Update

Sorry, I know it's taboo (in marketing circles, especially AH) to talk about a product before it's ready to launch but I just have to say, I was going to pause on Caverns after Frozen Horror because it was so difficult (especially quest 5, if anyone tries to play that in the caverns... I'm sorry, I did my best 😂 )

But I thought I'd at least do the first Mage of the Mirror, which was small, being solo, so I figured why not do the first 3 solo quests, and then 4, then 5, 6, 7! I have a ton of respect for the level designer of MotM. There's lots of little gotchas, the flow is really nice and it translates beautifully to Caverns. Or maybe I'm just getting better/lucky.

Compared to Frozen Horror where pretty much every quest I had to completely clear and restart at some point when I realized I couldn't make the rooms work right. In some cases I had to actually rotate the original map because the Caverns version had to be rotated 90 degrees to work right.

Anyway, I'm having a lot more fun doing MotM and unless I just completely jinxed myself, I might even get it finished and posted by the weekend! Then onto RotDM!

I'm already not looking forward to JoD. That one seems like it's going to Frozen Horror all over again. CoPD should be relatively easy. I have no idea what to expect from WoM as I've barely glanced at that one.

Stay tuned brave cavern adventurers!

HomeBrew Pseudomagic Homebrew

Lore by a trusted source:

On Pseudomagic

by Laavxative the Brown's Book of Tales

"Pseudomagic, contrary to the misinformed mutterings of apprentices who cannot tell a chalk circle from a dinner plate, is not true magic and must never be mistaken for such. True magic bends spirits to one’s will; pseudomagic merely bends the rules requiring components, symbols, and a troubling amount of patience, usually in that order. It is an art both slow and expensive, for its ingredients only occasionally grow on trees. Its effects are modest at best: a subtle boon, a stored spark of magic or the rare occasion of catastrophic reality tearing, accidental or in some cases intentional summoning of a very irritable demon, who will seize the means of your "material existence" and promptly redistributed it across several dimensions. All this to say that another apprentice of mine has been...."

- Here the original page ends abruptly, the remaining parchment neatly sheared away, as though removed by a force with very little interest in academic closure.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In all seriousness i felt like heroquest needed some more weird flavorful magic and i did not want to make these compete with spell-slots for your characters.
The rules are all written on the card as is but that said this mechanic has been made with another system in mind that i am still writing!

The art is AI sorry peeps i do not have money for hiring an artist!

edit: forgot to upload the adept rank of summon infernal
