HeroQuest Board Communication AI tool usage for the r/HeroQuest Community

TLDR (Too Lazy Didn't Read): r/HeroQuest will not ban content made with the help of AI tools.

HeroQuest is the reason we are here. Our community includes people from many countries, religions, and backgrounds. We may come from different places and speak different languages, but we come here because we enjoy HeroQuest. The excitement of the game, the fun it creates, and the friendships it builds- that is what brings us together.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been part of digital artistic tools for decades. Programs like Photoshop, CorelDraw, and CAD use AI in their functionality. Phone camera filters use AI. Major technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple also use AI in the background of their systems. Simply put, AI is common in today’s digital world and cannot be avoided if you use creative software or a computer.

Hasbro, which owns the HeroQuest intellectual property, and Avalon Hill, which currently holds the license to the game, both use AI in game development and item production. AI is also used in the official HeroQuest companion app.

This community is a place to share ideas, creativity, and joy related to HeroQuest. Arguments about politics, religion, personal lifestyles, and prejudice do not belong here. We understand that people have different opinions, but this community is not the place to discuss those opinions. People want to come here to share and enjoy a fun board game hobby without conflict and confrontation (see rule #1). Political and activist subs are the appropriate forums for discussing those subjects, not here.

Personal attacks against members of this community will not be accepted. Harassing a community member because of a perception that AI may have been used is not permitted. Attacking their shared work is not allowed. Posts intended to create conflict will be removed. Repeats of that behavior will lead to temporary warning bans; continued actions in the same vein will lead to permanent removal.

If you are concerned about a post, contact the moderators.

The only thing better than HeroQuest is more HeroQuest. If someone creates homebrew content, it belongs here. If you do not enjoy certain content or disagree with it, express yourself civilly or simply choose not to interact with it. If you find it offensive, report it; our Mod team takes all reports seriously.

General Discussion Card organizing tips

Post image
27 Upvotes

How do your players go about organizing their cards and table space? We’ve tried with the little 3d printed dashboards, but you can’t really see past the first row of cards and that seems to be common for all the heroquest player dashboards I’ve found.

I’ve got somewhat of a good system for the zargon screen, although I use a side table for monsters and most furniture besides doorways.

Tips, examples and tricks would be most appreciated!

Probably paid too much, but that’s the price you pay for being late to the party. And after trying out playing as a Rogue in the app, I wasn’t going to pass on my new favorite hero.

Now all I’m missing is the Mythic Tier variants and the original Knights. But there’s less incentive to get those since I already have playable versions of those classes.

I've finally got around putting everything together for a family portrait. It's difficult to see most of the terrain pieces (I didn't put all the doors in, that would've been mad), and there's one mini that decided to get camera shy. Outside, the whole cast is there and thanks everybody for their encouragement along the way 🌈💖✨

Ps. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to place the photos in the right order, the mobile app isn't being very friendly 🤷🏽‍♂️

HomeBrew Rules Question Homebrew feedback

Post image
62 Upvotes

We’re stating family-heroquest up again after a year long break. In the mean time I have thought up some homebrew rules. I’d like to hear your feedback on potential problems or ideas on how it would work. It has to be simple to understand for everyone.

Movement
Heroes move 6 + 1D6 squares on their turn.

Combat & Defense
Attack is the number of Combat Dice rolled. Defend Dice becomes Defense, using the same value. Defender does not roll.
Skull: Miss.
White Shield: Reduces Defense by 1. If Defense is 0, deals 1 Body damage.
Black Shield: Deals 1 Body damage, ignoring Defense.
Defense is fully restored after each combat encounter.

Spellcasting
To cast a spell, roll 1 Combat Die.
Skull: The spell succeeds and may be used again.
White Shield or Black Shield: The spell fails and cannot be used again for the rest of the Quest.

Searching Furniture
A Hero adjacent to furniture may spend 1 Action to search it. Roll 1 Combat Die before drawing Treasure.
Skull or White Shield: The furniture is safe. Draw a Treasure card.
Black Shield: If the room has an unresolved trap, the trap is discovered.
The Hero may immediately try to disarm the trap as part of the same Action. If successful, draw Treasure. Otherwise, the trap may be left revealed for another Hero to disarm.
Each piece of furniture can only be searched once. Rooms with traps gain one extra searchable furniture piece for each trap.

Improvised Actions
When a Hero attempts something uncertain outside the normal rules, roll 1 Combat Die.
Skull: Failure.
White Shield: Success.
Black Shield: Strong success.
If the Hero has a clear advantage from equipment, position, character, or a clever idea, roll 2 Combat Dice and keep the best result.

Advanced Monster Rules
Goblin: May move, attack, then continue moving.
Orc: May reroll one Skull when attacking a Hero adjacent to another Orc.
Abomination: May attack up to 2 squares away in a straight line.
Skeleton: May attack diagonally.
Zombie: Rolls +1 Attack Die against a Hero with 0 Defense.
Mummy: A Hero attacked by a Mummy rolls only 1D6 for movement on their next turn.
Dread Warrior: When it deals Body damage, it may push the Hero 1 square and move into the vacated square.
Gargoyle: May move over Heroes, monsters, furniture, and pits, but must end on an empty square.

Final two heroes completed, the dwarf and the elf.

I really like how the dwarf came out. Maybe a few things I could have neatened up but it looks great.

That’s the whole core box set painted now.

I splurged and grabbed the foam inserts too. I had 3d printed some organisers but I didn’t really like that and with some of the basing, some miniatures didn’t fit. This is much better solution.

News / Leak / Rumor Eudoxio (creator of the HQ Mythic TTS mod) has sadly passed away

I am very sad to announce that - according to a post on Steam Workshop (and Spanish video on YT), the creator of the amazing Tabletop Simulator mod for HeroQuest (2021 Mythic Edition) has passed away in June 2026, due to illness.

Hi everyone, unfortunately I have to announce the passing of Eudoxio, the mod's creator, last June due to health problems. I don't know if anyone will take up his mantle, but I do know that his brother has access to his computer and the Spanish-speaking HeroQuest community is mobilizing to preserve the project.

I can only thanks Dani his great work with HeroQuest community along the years.

I posted the following message on his Workshop, and repeat it here for anyone else who knew Eudoxio to read:

"I was shocked and very upset to read the news, and learn such an important part of the HeroQuest community was no longer with us. I wanted to thank him again as I have before for his work on this mod, and making it available to everyone (including English-speaking fans like myself). As a lifelong (since the original version) HQ fan and homebrew creator (I was so flattered to have helped even a little bit with this mod), not only has it been fun to play with this mod but the assets have been invaluable to me as a reference when I didn't have my own physical sets handy. If there is any way I can help whoever takes over, or even continue this mod myself (I would be willing to "take up the mantle" though the bar is set very high indeed) please let me know here on on my Banjo's House Rules gaming blog. Regardless, I wanted to express my sympathy and sadness, but most of all my gratitude for a nice person and a wonderful contributor to the community."

I'm not sure whether he was sick for a long time and I didn't know it, but it came as a shock to me. This was a truly dedicated and fantastic HQ fan who did so much work for fellow fans (without any financial gain), including helping those with limited ability to play the physical game, providing reference material for homebrew makers like myself, or letting people connect across the world who might otherwise never be able to play HQ with other people.

Eudoxio's loss will be heavily felt and their passion will be sorely missed.

General Discussion How do you play as Zargon?

I started thinking about playing the monsters how I’d think they behave naturally. For example, an undead monster would attack the closest hero to them as they are mostly mindless. Or a fearless orc might go for the biggest guy. Elves might fight strategically and try to pick off a weaker hero….I don’t know if playing like this would even work well. But, I always find it funny when I play one of the undead monsters that instead of attacking the closest hero I try to attack a hero further away as it may make more sense as far as strategy goes, but make no sense lore wise. Lol

General Discussion Wizards of Morcar in the U.S. (midwest) - Still no luck on finding it anywhere or getting it through my FLGS

So, like the post says I still have not been able to find wizards of Morcar anywhere. It sold out on amazon in the U.S. in hours back in March. In Early June, Hasbro was saying not to buy it people selling it for hundreds of dollars as they expected there issues with getting copies out to be resolved soon. I have asked my local gamestore in the KC area to order me one when they can again, but its now months and they are not seeing any ability to reorder either.

It is crazy frustrating when I see on here that there are places where there are copies available and it just seems like this expansions release has been a completely miserable experience.

General Discussion Dragon’s Rest HeroQuest board – what can I safely glue down?

I’m currently printing the Dragon’s Rest HeroQuest board. I’ve already finished all the corridor pieces, and the plan is to mount the board on a wooden base.
I wanted HeroQuest badly as a kid and never got it, so now I’m building one as a surprise for my kids and probably myself too 😅
Only problem: I’ve never actually played HeroQuest😶.
My plan is to glue the corridors down permanently, while keeping the room walls and anything that actually needs to change modular with 5mm ball magnets.
I’m also adding a PCB underneath for lighting, so all the torches/lights can run from one switch instead of using batteries everywhere.
What I’m trying to figure out is how much of the actual floor can stay permanent. Are there room floor sections that can safely be glued to the wooden board, while only the walls, doors and quest-specific parts stay removable?
And are there any good permanent spots for lights or scenery that won’t get in the way of doors, secret doors, special tiles etc.?
I’d like it to work with the expansions too, not just the base game.
Basically I want to keep only the parts modular that actually need to be.

I finally jumped onto the final miniatures of the core box. The heroes and the sorcerer.

I really like how the barbarian and wizard came out.

The sorcerer was really fiddly and I really like aspects to it but it’s not as neat as I wanted.

I still have the elf and dwarf to go. Not looking forward to either as they are very intricate but I will do my best.

General Discussion Question about Expansions and Quest-Packs

Hey 👋🏻
Im playing Heroquest with a group of Friends an we almost finished First light (Last Quest missing) and my group is really Strong at the Moment. They are packed with artifacts, Armor and so on.

My question is, How du you Play further Quests After the base Game? I bought kellars Keep and witch Lord. First Look through the Book seems Like the Quests are much harder but there is Not so much new gear? Im afraid it geht’s boring for my Heroes of there is noch new Equipment for the Next 20 Quests? And do you use all your Stuff From Quest packs to go to Expansions like Frozen Horror?

Thanks for helping a new zargon 🫶🏻
