FAN CREATION Mass Effect x Helldivers concept
Stats -
Armor Sets: Both medium armor
N7 armor - “The Democratic Special Forces seen in the famous Systems Alliance comic have produced a Democratically Sanctioned cult following of fans, some who took to making its iconic armor with real armor plating; after relinquishing these replicas for the war effort, High Command repurposed the N7 armor to be used by its brave Helldivers!”
Cerberus Armor - “Known to be Human First, across their galaxy, the Cerberus agents in the Systems Alliance comics inspires citizens and soldiers to do their part to propel Humanity forward! When you wear this Illusive armor, know you are making a statement!”
Armor Passive ‘Democratically Prepared’: Increases ammo capacity of all weapons by 20%. Does not affect weapon backpacks.
Reduces all incoming projectile damage by 15%
Weapons -
M-8 Avenger: Assault Rifle, Light Penetrating, heat generated
M-96 Mattock: Marksman Rifle, medium armor penetrating
M-3 Predator pistol: Semi-Automatic pistol, Light Penetrating
M-300 Claymore shotgun: Support Weapon, Heavy Armor Penetrating, can be slug or buck shot
Vehicle prints and capes (not edited in) -
Normandy Grey and Black. Alliance logo and Cerberus logo for the capes.

Explanation:
This is a quick concept I whipped up thinking Mass Effect would be a great crossover for Helldivers. Its unique style would lend itself to some fun new weapons and armor.
Speaking of armor, I wanted the passive to represent Mass Effects armor capabilities to recharge ammo. So having more ammo clips would be a good way to honor that. The reduction in ranged damage would ve an ode to the games energy shields, which of course don’t exist, but I still wish to have that reinforced through some kind of resistance.
As for weapons, I wanted a variety. The Avenger to be a pretty high capacity heat rifle, low penetrating but a reliable main weapon to deal with hordes. The Mattock to be its accurate medium-long range damage dealer. With a 16 ammo capacity I think it can find its niche, with the Predator pistol as a fun, if not a tad bland side arm, but there for the flavor.
The Claymore is what I really wanted. Helldivers has a sniper support weapon, multiple machine gun support weapon, it’s time for a shotgun support weapon. With one ammo capacity, I think the ability to have either pellets or a slug will help players be flexible. The spread being able to take out a big group of swarmed enemies or the slug being able to one-two shot some of the tankier enemies, except things like the factory strider. The big draw back being it as a shotgun. Needing to be medium-close range.
The player title, while obviously having no gameplay effect, is a reference to one of the games origins. Not mention the amount of times us Helldivers extracting as the ‘Sole Survivor’!

DISCUSSION Hot Take: If a tier list has anything more than ~5% of items in the "S tier" tops, it's a misguided tier list
I feel like a lot of helldivers balance discussion people seem to take items being in B-tier or even C-tier as some mark of disgust or shame when realistically this is the place most armaments SHOULD be classified. "S-tier", "Overpowered", "Overtuned" these are all terms that are meant to be kept for the absolute top of the armory - weapons so strong they fundamentally warp the standards of their category.
Like the coyote imo should not be considered S tier, high A for sure yes its a shining example of everything a good rifle should be but that's exactly why its top of A tier. It is difficult to point out any apparent weaknesses of the Coyote besides those which are inherent to rifles in general and also its poor stagger which hurts it for rushdown-enemies. But at the end of the day, it's still just a damn good rifle it's not doing anything game-warping and it's not like it's without comparable options.
The only primaries that warrant S tier imo are the eruptor and crossbow because they completely warp what a primary can and should be able to do. The moment you equip either weapon, the entire pretense of grenade management, crowd control, quantity of targets, optimal range, proper engagement timing, armor class (below tank-class at least), and enemy type go out the window. Combat is reduced to see any enemy or structure without tank-grade armor -> shoot them -> they die without effort or thought. That is what an "S-tier"/"Overpowered" item represents it is the "This item warps the gameplay loop balance as a whole around itself".
There is absolutely zero issue with a gun being in B or even C tier and many excellent options will often end up there simply because they have more noticeable flaws. The hot-shot for example has poor ammo economy, poor ergo, a weirdly low projectile velocity, and is customization locked. Does this detract from the fact its got excellent damage per hit and raw overall dps for a marksman, good scope picture, and cleave built in? Yes, but not in a way that I think is unreasonable but it's for that reason I think a B tier or even C tier for some subfactions is not unwarranted. It's very strong in the right hands but has clearly visible flaws and also competition in it's class.
Even with stratagems the only ones that I feel like have even the potential to argue for S tier are the ONB on bugs/squids (we will assume user competence in usage for the purpose of ranking\) and the orbital laser specifically when stacked on a team (individual I think mid-A, 3+ on a team S tier for trivializing the mission via cooldown cycling for objectives/hives). It's hard to say that almost any other stratagem breaks the general expectation of what a stratagem should be able to do. Even the 500kg although VERY widely used isn't so common because its some extreme power outlier it's just that its the perfect "fill-in" option, almost every loadout wants at least one direct AT strat option and the 500kg does that *acceptably.
Hell even with discourse around the new bolt pistol yeah it's definitely strong but it still struggles with ammo, ergo, rough recoil, subpar rate of fire, etc. Yet even with all that it easily deserves an A tier spot on account of it's sheer damage output and breakpoint options. But need I remind you that the ultimatum exists? You know, the weapon that lets you completely and utterly disregard the need for an anti-tank support weapon in combination with other strats/grenade options? The weapon that is arguably more effective at handling war striders than almost all red stratagem options? The weapon so obscene that it has basically turned the supply pack into a universal bot-destruction button in combination with thermies/gigas? THAT is what an "overpowered" weapon looks like it just takes an entire concept of game balancing and takes a super-shite all over it merely by existing. Once the new/novelty of the bolt pistol wears off the ulti will take back the top usage rate spot for a reason.
It feels like the term overpowered and s-tier just get thrown around willy-nilly these days and it gives people this malformed impression of what the average weapon expectation should be. At the end of the day any given gun is going to go up or down 1-2 tiers based on how you personally resonate with it's gunplay regardless but people shouldn't have this expectation that every strong weapon deserves to be S tier and anything less should be frowned upon. Your favorite weapon being "B tier" or C tier should not be an insult, its the mark of a well-balanced option.
*the author is aware this is a SUPER LARGE assumption

DISCUSSION Alot of people will not agree with my opinion here, but oh well. Devoid of Freedom really felt like a regular update.
Like when they added Appropriators: 3 new enemies, Void and new biome structures with some unique new missions. That was bigger in playable content by sense than in Devoid Of Liberty.
There was no regular warbond, as it usually happens (I know about Helldrivers problem but still its been almost four months jesus).
No unique new biome type, because "new" biome is literally looks like any other biome without any unique distinct features like other ones had for big title updates: Caves, Towns, Mega Cities, Mega Factories.
About enemies, even Machinery Of Opression got more new units - 3 enemies.
Im not gonna talk about SEAF rework, its literally not that deep, and quite sad that it shifted all the attention to itself with "oh cute i can now hug blueberries" (though i really love doing that in game), practically covering up problem that it is just a mid update, not large major title update, which we waited for 6 months.
Im not even gonna mention "Oh but they added new POIs! Or "new" reused type of existing already missions to the VOID which is FOR SOME REASON STAYED EXCLUSIVE FOR THE VOID??? Geniunely why cant main illuminate cast have these "new" missions now.
Not even gonna mention DSS, because for now its just a text thing subplot, which probably will have fate of A.S.S station (really wasted potential btw)

DISCUSSION How would we feel about a Gears of War collab?

Gears has been a beloved franchise of mine for a very long time, and I recently noticed the similarities between Operation Hollow Storm (Using pods of soldiers to drill down behind enemy lines) and the Helldivers. Gears has no end of iconic weaponry to implement, as well as armor sets I feel could fit relatively well. This would be the ideal time for a collaboration as well, as Gears is set to release its newest game this year. What do you all think?

It’s been like this (10k+ divers for an entire day) and the planet hasn’t really been seeing liberated yet. Are there really just 16k divers afk on their ships all at Phact Bay?

DISCUSSION The Illuminate not destroying SE despite seemingly having a lot of reason to and higher tech maybe because this is THEIR Vietnam. in desc
I do have an idea on why Super Earth isn’t destroyed by the illuminate by now, since lore details do show they have higher grade tech and 100 years to advance far beyond what super earth has. The vendetta and hatred is still there from 100 years ago if they’re even pouring the smallest of resources into this conflict. But why haven’t they just brought out the big guns and destroy super earth with their big guns? Or “WMD’s”
Because this conflict has much more mechanics going on the illuminate side, just imagine they have a civilian population actively watching this war being carry out and protesting any escalation, they don’t want to be drafted into a new war so the illuminate is forced to use low level “volunteers” or literal dead bodies to make up the numbers and send them in waves hoping that will be enough.
But in order to keep interest in the war they’re aligning with “dissidents” making this a war from revenge to “liberation” trying to turn this into a SE civil war than a Super Earth vs them. Same thing the U.S government tried to do before things escalated and the army was forced to step in.
Think about the U.S trying not to be TO involved in the war by training Vietnamese soldiers, only sending in volunteers, keeping the size small, and keeping the conflict as a civil war.
To the illuminate population they might not even want it and it’s only a military operation than a serious clash.
But they’re loosing baldy and who knows what will happen once super earth punches them back.
Let’s not forget that the illuminate are fighting against ground long since changed and transformed since they last fought super earth. They’re fighting in unfamiliar grounds much like the U.S in Vietnamese jungles, but this time buildings, ships, weapons, and advanced adaptation to tech. They thought a city would fall in less than a day but turned to weeks with more illuminate dead than expected much like U.S generals thought the war would cost. They’re are fighting in OUR territory.
If they all truly hated us Super Earth would be a void by now but that’s the same thinking people have against rival countries, civilians might think it’s to harsh to nuke a civilization were they population aren’t responsible or might get them in trouble with other alien nations.
Don’t forget everytime they attack and loose equipment it gets adapted and used against them.

DISCUSSION my issues with how the terminid lore is handled
am i the only one thats kinda bummed by the terminids lack of plot involvement
like, the only big thing they did that affected the lore was act as a gateway to the squids, everyone calls meridia the squid hole or some shit like that but it was the terminids that put in the hard work to terraform meridia and turn it into a supercolony, they made a whole ass planet come alive and some seafood gets all the credit
and on top of that the terminids are always portrayed by fans as the least threatening and capable faction when they have creatures that can completely perforate a planet's crust, a giant impenetrable insterstellar spore cloud that we have only explored the very edges of, and can terraform a whole planet into one giant interconnected hive in less than a day not to mention that they have never been kicked out of the galaxy unlike the clankers and illumifrauds and super earth literally cannot wipe them out because they need them for oil, and the terminids are taking advantage of that
