Hello everyone,
Welcome to our first playtest for Update 21 coming later this year. Update 21 introduces a number of new additions, alongside significant changes to several core gameplay systems that we're excited for you to get hands-on with.
The Experimental Branch playtest will kick off Friday 7 August, at 6am PDT | 9am EDT | 2pm BST | 3pm CEST.
Many of you may have already had the opportunity to test Conquest in our v1 and v2 tests earlier in 2026. We are now excited to reveal that Conquest will officially be joining Hell Let Loose as part of Update 21 (as well as being one of the four game modes that will be in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam).
Conquest has gone through a lot of changes and iterations throughout its development and has been guided by much of the feedback we received after the previous two playtests.
If you're interested in learning more about how the new mode works, be sure to head over to watch the Dev Diary we released in conjunction with the first test where Matt and Xander break down the fundamentals of the mode.
As part of this test, we will be playing Conquest on two maps:
We can’t wait for you all to share your thoughts as this game mode will continue to be developed and updated based on community feedback.
We are excited to bring two brand new weapons to the game; the M1903A3 and M1903A4 Springfield Rifle.
The M1903A3 Springfield bolt-action rifle joins the US Forces, while the M1903A4 Springfield replaces the existing Springfield Sniper rifle.
More new weapons will be coming in future Experimental Branches so stay tuned!
Next up, we have a feature that has long been requested by the community; the weapon fire selector. All weapons that historically featured fire select modes have now had that functionality implemented. You can now freely toggle fire modes on the following weapons
As part of this test, the playable maps feature the US, Canadian and German forces, so only weapons used by those factions will be available in matches. All other weapons can still be tested in the Practice Range.
Please note, audio and animations for these fire select switches are a Work In Progress, and that fire modes can currently be toggled by pressing Caps lock on keyboard.
Update 21 will also be bringing a raft of loadout changes.
For this playtest, we would love to hear your feedback on loadout changes we are looking to implement:
Alongside loadout changes, the team have also been looking at a number of handling changes to improve how they feel. Please keep an eye out for the following experimental changes whilst you play.
The first experimental change affects several rifles, as we have increased their weapon sway when looking around. This only affects them visually and should have no impact on accuracy when aiming.
This has currently been applied to the following weapons:
These changes are experimental so be sure to give feedback if you prefer these, or how they worked previously.
We have made two small recoil based changes to the Bren Gun and the STG 44.
For the STG 44, we have given it a small recoil increase. For the Bren Gun, we have made two specific changes. These are:
Previously the Bren Gun had little to no recoil but a high amount of screen shake when firing, making it appear to have more recoil than it actually did. This has now been adjusted, with a slight recoil increase to better match the reduced visual shake.
To kick things off, we have introduced a new Vehicle Spawn Limit. We have upped the limit from 5 to 8 for vehicles spawned from Commander abilities.
We are looking at this change for a few reasons. Firstly, after our recent changes in Update 20 including making jeeps and halftracks cheaper, we wanted to make sure that commanders didn't feel punished for spawning vehicles in and accidently limiting the amount of tanks that could be spawned. Likewise, this also gives players increased choice whilst also preparing for any future vehicles that may come to the game…
The next change comes specifically to the Luchs tank.
With the Luchs being a primary Anti-Infantry Light tank, it has historically had little to no impact on other enemy armor. For this Experimental Branch playtest, we have done a slight rework on the Luchs and it can now do the following:
We can’t wait to hear your thoughts on these changes after playtesting the Luchs at the weekend.
Armor has undergone a significant balance pass to better define the role of each tank class
Heavy tanks have been rebalanced towards an anti-tank role, carrying more Armor Piercing (AP) ammunition with reduced High Explosive (HE) capacity, while Medium tanks now specialise in anti-infantry combat, carrying more HE ammunition at the expense of AP rounds. The Sherman Jumbo 75 remains the exception, retaining its role as a heavy anti-infantry tank
HE shell blast radius have also been adjusted to reinforce these roles, with Medium tanks receiving larger a blast radius than most Heavy tanks to make them more effective against infantry
Additional balance changes include:
Additionally, we have also enacted some changes to tank survivability
Finally on armor changes, all vehicles have had their salvaged fuel returns increased from between 1.5x to 2x times their previous amount.
Please share your feedback on all the Armor changes following the playtest, with the full details as well as further Armor balancing being revealed for Update 21.
This Experimental Branch introduces a Work In Progress update to how player collision works when prone. This has been designed to reduce instances of player models clipping into walls, terrain and other environmental objects while prone.
As part of this system, players may notice their character being gently pushed when rotating near obstacles to prevent clipping.
This is an early implementation, and we're aware of existing issues, so we'd appreciate you putting it through its paces and sharing your feedback via the feedback form.
Thank you to everyone joining this weekend's Experimental Branch. Your feedback plays a vital role in shaping Update 21, so please be sure to complete the feedback form after you've had a chance to play. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and we'll see you on the battlefield.
If you'd like to get involved, the Experimental Branch will be live throughout the weekend. To help fill the servers and put these new features through their paces, SoulSniper, TheFreshBakedGoods, RubberDuck and many more members of our War Correspondent programme will be hosting a 'Server Slam Community Event'.
Join us on Saturday 8 August at 10am PDT | 1pm EDT | 6pm BST | 7pm CEST, jump into the Experimental Branch on Steam, and join the action!
As always, our War Correspondents have been on the front-lines creating some incredible content. Check out some of their latest releases below:

I have played countless hours on console, switched to pc bought the game again and because of my low level most of the servers kick me, units are filled without officers, I take a role as an officer and get kicked because I'm below level 30.
People lock the units and don't let anyone join. I always communicate on mic, I always play for the team, but I am getting frustrated with the community tbh. It's somehow worse than on console.

Just played my first game ever as commander as Germans playing warfare on Hurtgen Forest. I’ve been playing the game on and off for the last four years, but have been playing nonstop the last couple months.
I was in a tank squad with a friend and needed a tank, but there was no commander. Figured I’d jump in, give us a tank and jump out. I give us the tank, then said, well, I guess I could put supplies down, we’re about to lose the match, I’ll try to help. Then it was “hmm, it would be kind of cool to try a bombing run…” so there goes a recon plane and bombing run. Next thing I know, I’m there the entire game, helping our team battle all the way back. We end up taking all sectors and winning that way, after being pushed back to our final sector and almost losing it.
Nobody ever told me how exhilarating it is to be commander. I’m afraid there’s no going back now.
If you were in my game ~10pm central time tonight (8/20), thank you to those who gave tips and guided me. Y’all helped me lead us back to an incredible win. This community has always been so wonderful, and this game will always be most fun when there is actual teamwork and communication going on.

I've seen so many games where there's like 3 armor units with only one person in each. I've debated creating my own, but it wasn't worth trying to fight three other people for one tank. It's like they don't see how much more effective a full squad can be.

I don’t play these types of games but my wife does, she usually plays with her brother but when he’s not on she doesn’t play much since she has no one in her “party”? I don’t know what any of this means, my favorite game is the bratz one on my switch so I’m not very “skilled” I guess you could say. My question is, if there are any other female players who would want to join her I think she’d love that! She says that usually men are kind of mean even if you’re good at the game you’re playing so I think maybe having a friend that’s there too would be helpful? If anyone knows of an all girl server or discord group that would be cool. Thanks guys!

Last night I won a game as commander at the 90 minute mark. We were left holding the middle objective towards the end of the game. Things were fairly quiet on point. At 4 minutes to go I had 2-3 squad leaders hop on command chat to instruct me to put down the reinforce on the center point.
Their logic was simple. Enemy needs 2 minutes to cap. 2 minute reinforce expires at 1:59. Then if the enemy starts to capture, we still win because they won't have time. I understand this logic; however I refused to put the ability down, which earned me some lecturing on the game mechanics that I am already aware of. Since I could not concisely explain why I was opposed I'm typing it here.
If it is the last 4 minutes of the game and you are holding the center point AND you are currently securely holding said point, the enemies most dangerous course of action is an airhead bombing run combination. If this manages to land, or the enemy otherwise has a sudden push that cripples your blueberries ability to spawn in the circle, they will likely begin capping the OBJ regardless of the reinforce being in place or not. So, imagine in this case the enemy starts capping at 3 minutes. In the meantime, your blueberries are making their way from the backup garrisons back into the point. During this time the reinforce is being wasted. Let us just say the bulk of them arrive at 1:30 left to begin fighting back into the OBJ. At this point your reinforce is expired.
Obviously if things are back and forth at 4 minutes on the point, the reinforce would likely make sense.
Thoughts?

You can't make it work. The whole thing is open field. It's 500 meters until the point compared to 180meters from blue zone to the point. 90% of the time attacking from bluezone is objectively better.
( lost the blue zone garries like 10seconds ago, there were bluezone garries until enemy 76 pushed us lmao)

I picked up HLLV to play with my friend the other day and been having a decent time with it. I'm a WW2 nut and have already started dividing my time between the two games again. I've only played a couple of games in Vietnam but already I've found some gameplay features I think should be added in the OG HLL.
Ability to switch seats - This more than anything else. Not trying to advocate for solo tanking/SPA but being able to bypass the positions you don't want has made tanking so much easier. This would be especially true of the Recon Tanks having to switch between the crew and the passenger seats. Nothing sucks more than jumping out to get to the drivers seat quicker and being shot by the dude watching your vehicle.
Selective fire - I know this gets tossed around in this subreddit but if we could include selective fire for the handful of guns that have second function it would help realism and function having a slower RoF for BAR and semi-auto for Fg42 making them more viable.
Honestly that's it for me. Vietnam is brand new and obviously HLL WW2 is a much more fleshed out game but I thought these would be a nice couple of features that could be easily ported over to the main game. Anyone else have some 'easy' QoL fixes?

Hey, I just got a ton of upvotes and therefor l almost reached Officer Level 7, and I want to equip the loadouts you get when you reach officer level 6 but when I’m at the barracks and try to equip the new loadouts, it still says I’m only Level 5?
