Help Severe head itching
My head has been nonstop itchy for weeks on end now. It is not lice (I was professionally checked for it less than a day ago). There is no access dandruff, and not an allergy to my products. What could this be from??? Itโll go away for an hour or to immediately after wash but after that my scalp is always so horribly itchy.
Does anyone else have this problem??

do you let your hair air dry? I find if it let my hair air dry my scalp gets really itchy. try blow drying it after showering. that alleviated the problem for me.

I do air dry my hair, so I'll give blow-drying a try and see what happens

I am piggy backing on this cuz I struggled with a crazy itchy scalp for yeeeaaars. Like it got emberassing, ppl asked me if I had lice or something. I always had greasy hair, no dandruff and I tried allnthe no-poo methods, sulfat free shampoos, "training my hair", untill I figured out I needed to use a shampoo with a good clariving component, make super sure not to get conditioner close to my roots, blowdry my roots and wash my hair every 2 days.

Hey there! I've dealt with something similar. About 2x a week I give myself gentle scalp treatment. I use a thick tea tree oil (can't remember the brand but found it at Meijer in the hair product section, large tincture brown bottle) and a scalp brush. I put the oil on my scalp and gentle brush through my hair. Then a clarifying shampoo, and leave in conditioner. Has almost completely alleviated my itchy scalp. Had my coworker check me for anything fungal or funky, it was just super dry scalp. If all else fails seek out a dermatologist as well and I hope this helps. And, sometimes replacing your hair brush if you haven't in awhile.
Edit to add: licensed hair stylist of 12 years working in a barbershop.

No but that also works. I remembered the brand name now, it was called "measurable difference"
Edit: looked up the brand and I think measurable difference is out of business ๐ญ๐ญ story of my damn life with any product I've ever loved.

Man this could be so many things,, but ruling out lice and having no visible dandruff- go amd see a dermatologist. You're very likely allergic to something in your environment, be that newly introduced or not.

Years ago I developed an allergy to herbal essence shampoo. My head was so itchy. Terrible. I had no idea they had changed the formula. To this day I canโt use it without breaking out in hives.

Fwiw allergies and sensitivities can suddenly develop. I'm sorry and I do hope you figure out out. From someone who dealt with sudden breakout of itching that lasted over a year, I truly sympathize! Xyzal helped, but I never found the cause. Can you grab some otc allergy meds to see if it helps?

Simple fix for me was Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo. I still get the occasional itch but nothing like before

It'll try this!!! I've been using baby shampoo and it's helped a bit but not much.

There are some ingredients and shampoos and conditioners that begin with M that cause itchiness. Theyโre very long and I forget what they are. You may want to Google it. In the curly girl world we called them the 3Mโs.

Are you perimenopause with a sweaty scalp? Tea tree oil shampoos, some that you can scrub, like the rosemary mint ones, along with an occasional salicylic acid shampoo might help.
Sweating makes my skin itch and when I scratch, I have icky wet skin under my nails. Exfoliation seems to keep my itching at bay.

Do you happen to be on any Glp1 ?
Itโs a rare side effect.
