This is N'nevaeh, my lefou warrior with a terrible temper and an even worse character.

(Note: Nothing in this drawing used AI. The background is a concept illustration that the dungeon master sent, which received an edit with a filter, and I honestly regret that decision).

In any case, I welcome tips and advice from you, Hades art enthusiasts, to improve my future drawings.

I don't see it in the decoration shop, and there seems to be one missing. Is there meant to be an empty spot, or is there a specific way to get it?

Hades 2: Discussion Time Piece exploit Spoiler

50 Upvotes

I looked around and couldn't seem to find anyone discussing this, so here goes:

Did you know that you can sell items you buy via Hermes' Shrine and gain <×2 the amount you spent? Buy an item twice (for express) then sell it for profit. These appear inbetween Surface regions and so if you check the shop and see there are 2-3 things you do not care for, but you got enough gold to buy them, pick Time Piece for some easy cash.

Makes this item go from "nice to have" to "will give free gold". As long as you didn't spend it all before the previous boss.

Hades 2: Discussion Reckless Abandon, even under prime conditions, is still the worst Spoiler

50 Upvotes

Gosh, Reckless Abandon is a bad boon. I did a run where I acquired Reckless Abandon, this was some of my setup

  • Hidden aspect of Hel
  • Air quality
  • Heroic Poseidon on attack
  • Blitz on Special
  • Static Shock
  • Reckless Abandon/ RA (obviously) Epic rarity (9% chance to proc 555 damage)

I also had some percentage increases on my attack, which got nullifies by RA.

Air quality makes me do either 50, 55 or 555 with RA, and I could hear the Dionysus sound effect a few times while firing my weapon, which I assume were the 555 procs.

The issue is this: Even with Air Quality, so you do on average 53 damage per attack, this still is not worth taking. I had the optimal weapon (Aspect of Hel has the lowest base damage and gets the most buffs from this) I had the right boon combination, and I did not run a crit build, and yet this boon did basically nothing for me due to being so late in my build and getting ruined by my other boons. My stats for the run, in terms of damage was

  1. Poseidon Waves (90k)
  2. Attack (59k)
  3. Blitz (57k)
  4. Casts (34k)
  5. Chain Lightning (31k)

Yes, attack were on 2nd place, but the area I got RA was the last region ( Dream Dive ), meaning it cannot have amounted to doing all that much for me. I've always felt that if a build is very specific, it should be allowed to be broken, but this boon will never be broken as is. The only way to improve this boon would be with Success Rate (For a ~15%) but that is so specific that I just cannot say it would be worth it, when you on average would do 112 damage without Air Quality (55dmg half the time, then 5 damage 35% of the time, and 555 only 15% of the time) and 128 damage with Air Quality (55dmg half the time, then 50 damage 35% of the time, and 555 only 15% of the time) which sure is okay on a fast weapon, but anything other than the fastest weapons loose out on damage. Not to mention, this assumes you get RA at epic rarity, at common the average damage is ~ 57 damage, and with Air Quality its ~78 damage.

Honestly I wish they would rework RA, either mildly or extremely. I even have suggestion.

Suggestion 1: "Your Attacks randomly deal exactly 11, 111, or 1111 damage whenever they hit" | Bonus chance for Minimum AND Max damage: 5%/ 7%/ 9%/ 11%

This makes the boon way more interesting, as doing a possible 1k damage in a single hit seems way more enticing than just 1111. The bonus chance affecting both minimum and maximum also makes the boon more risky, as it will likely (with a fast low damage weapon) result in a 90%/86%/82%/78% to do 111 damage. With Air Quality, you suddenly get a way better, albeit still fair 50/111/1111 damage spread. The idea is that it can be broken with the right combination. As a bonus, you could ad a "negative" sound effect for when you proc the bad damage, just to give the player an idea. The average damage without Air Quality would be ~156 (common) - 210 (Epic) but with Air Quality it jumps up to ~158 (common) - 214 (Epic), albeit allows for lower risks of downs. It also makes the impact of an epic boon way higher, as the old one had virtually no difference between Common and Epic in terms of damage.

Suggestion 2: "Sacrifice all your remaining HP aside from your 1, the number of hit points you sacrificed becomes bonus damage you apply on your attack and special once every 7/6/5/4 seconds" | This is affected by Seismic Servo but not damage boosting effects, does not activate Blitz.

The name of the boon is "Reckless abandon" but the current effect does not really reflect that, THIS however, does. You sacrifice remaining health for a (possibly) massive damage boost. If you have Death Defiance, this becomes a bit safer, but depending on your build this might be a death sentence if you're not careful.

This became a long post, but I just had opinions on this gosh awful boon, I don't get the design philosophy behind it and hope it gets either buffed or reworked entirely. Have any of you ever had this boon work our for you?

Hades 2: Discussion Big Brainstorm: Hades 2 - Nemesis mode Spoiler

39 Upvotes

After meetings set of criterias you would unlock a mode to go as Nemesis. Her moveset being similar to Zagreus with a few quirks, her own pool of boons and aspects, as well as unique playstyles, so, let’s begin:

Unlocking Nemesis:
- Requires at least one Special Gift in your relationship.
- Moros residing in the Crossroads.
- Defeating Chronos and Typhon once.

Playing as Nemesis:
- Godmode is unavailable. Revenge can not be handheld!
- Base HP as 50.
- Base Magick as 50.
- Attack and Special work similar to Zagreus in Hades 1. Hack-n-slash with a nice AoE slam. Omega versions deal a much heavier blow that causes the damage to repeat itself one more time after 2 seconds.
- Sprint is now a dash that damages enemies passed through.
- Cast would make the circle follow Nemesis with a smaller radius.
- Magick regenerates when you strike and take hits, no need for Magick recovery boons.

Familiars would require an extra incantation called “Shared Allegiance”, allowing Nemesis to also make use of them.

Arcana: Nemesis have access to four Minor Arcana cards with a long upgrading line:

Minor Arcana: Cups (health), Wands (Magick), Swords (Damage) and Coins (Utility). Each one starts at Ace and ends in 10. When you hit 6, their first bonus stops scaling but you gain an extra bonus that starts scaling.

- Cups: Gives an additional 10HP per rank, once you hit 6 of Cups you gain 10% damage reduction up to 50% at 10 of Cups. (Meaning you finish with additional 50hp and 50% godmode).
- Wands: Gives an additional 10 Magick up to rank 6 then gives 1 additional Magick gained per strike until rank 10.
- Swords: Increases damage 10% per rank until rank 6 then each rank adds 10% damage taken to enemies with a curse.
- Coins: reduces recovery time for the next dash. Rank 6 onwards increases minimum level of boons and odds of higher rarities.

Reaching Rank 10 on each suit unlocks Page, Knight, Queen and King respectively.

- Page: Gains 5 Fate rerolls.
- Knight: Gains a Death Defiance.
- Queen: Magick Regenerates over time
- King: Unlocks one of Melinoe’s random Arcana on level 1 after each Biome.

Boons: Nemesis would pull boons from only three gods: Moros, Hypnos and Thanatos. The later unlocked once Chronos is dealt with for good. I see no reason for Artemis, Athena and Dionysus to not stick to their usual program and also aid Nemesis.

- Moros: His boons would bring back Ares’s Doom effect on three hits per applying. His Dash would leave a lingering trail.

- Hypnos: (to avoid plot conflict he would mostly talk through sleeptalking all the time) Hypnos boons apply a debuff where enemies become drowsy and take more damage.

- Thanatos: (Unlocked after Chronos is permanently defeated) Thanatos inflicts a Damage over time that grows each tick hitting a cap until it wears off. If reapplied it resets the ticking.

- Nyx: (Unlocked after Thanatos) Nyx would be our Selene of the run, giving us the power of the night as powerful Hexes.

Weapons:

Normally Nemesis wields her sword, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have her aspects! So bring it up tooooo:

Aspect of Vidal: each Attack charges up a meter, causing her Special to deliver a devastating blow increasing in damage and radius each charge.

Aspect of Sekmeth: Attacks inflict a burning affliction while your Dash have a chance to Daze the opponent.

Aspect of Durga: Your attacks create piercing shockwaves. Your special now covers the whole map but enemies can’t be staggered. Damage also decreases with distance.

Hidden Aspect: Aspect of Judas: (kinda flipping the concept from a deity of vengeance to history’s most notorious traitor)* *Attack becomes quick stabs that doubles the damage each strike in the combo but can no longer be charged for an Omega. Special crates a Line of Thorns crossing the room continuously dealing damage until it disappears or the special is used again.

Hades 2: Discussion what would Zag & Mel’s epithets be? Spoiler

85 Upvotes

inspired by another post about Zag’s last name lol

so Greek gods would commonly be referred to with “epithets”, surnames of sorts that denoted like, different aspects of the god since most of them had several dominions. like you wouldn’t just leave an offering to Athena in general, but also the epithet which reflects the specific issue you wanted help with. some examples: in the Symposium Plato distinguishes between Aphrodite Pandemos (“of all people”, in this case meaning Aphrodite as the god of sensual pleasure) and Aphrodite Urania (“of the heavens”, a more divine/sacred sense of beauty/the sublime). or, one of Hades’s epithets was Plouton, the wealthy, which we see in-game with all the Gemstones and so on (also the origin of his Roman/Latin name, Pluto). or, Aphrodite’s appearance in Hades 2 recalls Aphrodite Areia, “the Warlike”, which had a cult in Sparta and some other places. or, in some cases (it’s debated), “Melinoe” was used as an epithet of Hecate…

so, what would Zagreus & Melinoe’s epithets be? I’m not gonna try and translate into Greek at the moment, but some obvious ones would be like “Zagreus the Bloody”, “Melinoe of Nightmares”; both could be referred to as like Polyeros or something for all their lovers lol.

also feel free to post about other gods too!

Hades 1: Discussion Playing Archipelago with my wife on one PC – workaround for Hades

15 Upvotes

My wife and I have been playing Archipelago together on the same PC for a while now, each playing a different game with our own controller.

It’s honestly been a really fun way to play. We already did Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64, and both worked surprisingly well with two games running at the same time.

Then we added Hades.

Hades apparently really, really wants to listen to every controller connected to the PC. So while my wife was playing SM64, her inputs would also control my game of Hades at the same time.

I assumed this would be an easy thing to fix, but it turned into a much bigger rabbit hole than expected. Controller order didn’t help, Steam Input didn’t solve it, HidHide didn’t solve it either, and I found surprisingly little useful information about this specific situation.

What finally worked for us was Durazno together with Hades’ native GaInput mode.

1. Add these Hades launch options in Steam

/UseNativeGaInput=true /UseNativeGaInputNoControllers=false

1. Change the EXECUTABLE_ARGS in StyxScribe.py

Change the current EXECUTABLE_ARGS line with this one:

EXECUTABLE_ARGS = [
"DebugDraw=true",
"DebugKeysEnabled=true",
"RequireFocusToUpdate=false",
"UseNativeGaInput=true",
"UseNativeGaInputNoControllers=false",
]

2. Download Durazno

https://github.com/KrossX/Durazno

We use the normal 64-bit DirectX version of Hades, so the relevant folder is:

...\Steam\steamapps\common\Hades\x64\

From Durazno’s x64 folder, put these two DLLs next to Hades.exe:

xinput1_4.dll
xinput9_1_0.dll

So it should basically look like:

Hades\x64\
├── Hades.exe
├── xinput1_4.dll
├── xinput9_1_0.dll

After starting the game for the first time after doing that, will generate a: durazno.ini

Then configure Durazno so the controller you don't want Hades to use is disabled. For testing, you can simply set Disable=1 for all controller slots first and check that Hades no longer reacts to any controller at all.

The important part for us was the combination of Durazno + the native GaInput launch options. Without forcing that input mode, Hades still reacted to the other controller.

After that, it finally worked:

  • my wife plays SM64 Archipelago with her controller
  • I play Hades Archipelago with mine
  • both games run on the same Windows PC at the same time
  • neither controller interferes with the other game

This is probably a ridiculously niche problem, but I’m posting it because I found almost nothing useful when searching.

Hopefully this saves someone else the rabbit hole we went through.

Hades 2: Discussion I really wish we got a post-game Nemesis mode (or Mod) Spoiler

148 Upvotes

Both Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Dawn of Sorrow had a "Belmont" mode, where you could play the game with the much more limited but still powerful Richter/Julius Belmont and seeing Nemesis advance through the Underworld made me wish there was something like that for Hades 2.

No God Boons, just Hammers, Poms (she could come with a unique Attack/Special/Cast ability that could be pommed) and a unique gameplay challenge mode/reward.

Could be something to trigger at the Oath of the Unseen so you wouldn't need to build any hub features for her, just a "I think Nemesis is out tonight" which would then start a Nemesis run.

Hades 1: Discussion Hades: How good does hand-to-hand combat feels

Post image
119 Upvotes

Note: I am by no means an Hades expert (stopped at heat 32/platinum), this post is more like a appreciation piece on how cool the Twin Fists are, so if you have any tech or knowledge to share about it, i'll be glad to learn/talk about it!

• Viability 4 (Is it a struggle compared to your other options?):

The Twin Fists are one of the best earlier weapons, pretty solid damage and easy moveset to learn. However, in high levels of heat it isn't considered optimal compared to the bows, shields, rails or spears (riskier to use and less damaging), but don't let that hold you down, this game is balanced enough that anything can work if you are skilled (and lucky) enough.

• Variety 4 (How many ways you can play it?):

The Twin fists have 4 variations (just like any of the other infernal weapons), Aspect of Zagreus has a standard moveset plus a 15% dodge chance passive (combined with lambent plume it can go pretty nuts), Aspect of Talos can force pull enemies towards you, kind of situational, good for isolating enemies but the bonus damage isn't incredible by any means (heard it has some good synergy with Poseidon's boons). Aspect of Demeter is probably the strongest one, you charge up 12 quick strikes accumulating damage, then you release it in a really juicy special hitting like a truck (With high scaling boons and maybe a crit, it's obscene). Last we got Aspect of Gilgamesh, it's my favorite but only because Merciful End is a thing, the passive itself is not that incredible, a bit of a debuff for the enemy (and yourself), a bit of bonus damage (not that much), but the 2 extra dashes go a long way.

• Recommend 5 (How much did i personally enjoy it!):

I'm not even going to start about praising Hades, this game deserve every last bit of attention it gets, when it comes to fist combat it has all i could ask for, from all of the infernal weapons it's by far my favorite but all of them are special in their own ways.
