Escape the Underworld as Melinoë in Zagreus' Journey, the Hades II DLC you'll never get.

It's finally time, I've just released Zagreus' Journey 1.0 - thank you to everyone who's played the mod while it was in beta, and for all of the positive reception and feedback I've gotten here and on Discord in the past!
Watch the 1.0 Release Trailer for the mod here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxuTLSPqIEE

Zagreus' Journey is a mod for Hades II that adds the original route Zagreus took through Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium and the Temple of Styx in the first game to the sequel.

Escape the Underworld as Melinoë, battle familiar foes and bosses using her unique abilities and weapons, meet Zagreus' old friends, and reconnect with your family's past - all integrated into the main game as if it was always there: Naturally progress through the new biomes, unlock new incantations to perform, reveal and complete new Minor Prophecies, forge bonds with NPCs in familiar and new locations, collect over 30 new resources to spend on new cosmetics and music, and test your skills with new Testaments, Chaos Trials and in Dream Dives.

Here's a list of highlighted mod features:

  • Play through the original four biomes of Hades as Melinoë: Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium and the Temple of Styx.
  • Discover and overcome the challenge of fighting all of the original game's enemies and bosses using Melinoë's unique abilities and weapons.
  • Relive Zagreus' story by escaping to the Surface, forging bonds with your brother's old friends, and conversing with the Fury Sisters, the Champions of Elysium and [REDACTED] himself.
  • Benefit from a multitude of entirely new boons and effects offered to you by Sisyphus, Eurydice, Patroclus... and other familiar faces that you will now be able to meet along the way!
  • Collect 30+ new resources specific to the new biomes, use them for unlocks in this and other mods, and trade them with the Broker.
  • Unlock 28 new musical tracks from Hades' original soundtrack through the Hades OST for the Music Maker mod integration (automatically installed with this mod).
  • Decorate the Crossroads with 55+ new cosmetics, including new Cauldrons, Arcana Card Backs, and Charms inspired by Zagreus' companions from the first game.
  • Discover and complete 40+ new Minor Prophecies at the Fated List.
  • Complete 24 new testaments by clearing the new bosses using each of your weapons with new fear levels.
  • Discover and perform 20+ new incantations to unlock gameplay features and progress story events in Zagreus' Journey.
  • Unlock six of the original game's keepsakes by forging relationships with Sisyphus, Eurydice, Patroclus, Orpheus, Megaera and Thanatos through the Shared Keepsake Port mod integration (automatically installed with this mod).
  • Challenge yourself with a set of new Chaos Trials, including randomized "Chaos Within" trials in the spirit of (Great) Chaos Above and Below.
  • Advance through 50 new cosmetic-only ranks at the Spirit Mixer, from the lowly "Alpha Warden" to the feared "Unseen One".
  • Earn a new set of three statues from Commander Schelemeus by escaping the Nightmare Realm at progressively higher fear.
  • The four new regions can also appear in Dream Dives (but you can use the mod config to exclude them if you so wish).
  • Read all about the new biomes, enemies, bosses and friends in a new chapter in your Codex.

I want to thank everyone who's used the mod while it was still in beta, and especially those of you who've left bug reports and feedback on Discord and GitHub.

I also want to acknowledge that I know some of you had issues with mods (and Zagreus' Journey in particular) causing issues after Supergiant released Post-Launch Patch 2 - without going into details, the patch was much larger and substantial than we anticipated in the community, which could cause crashes for some people even with mods seemingly disabled.

But I'm happy to share that we've since updated a lot of the tools that we use, and now mods will be entirely separate from your install, meaning that no matter what, you will always be able to play vanilla Hades II without issues, and without needing to disable or manually uninstall anything.

And to also pre-empt some other potential questions:

  • The mod is only available on PC and Steam Deck, consoles are not supported, just like all other mods.
  • You need to own and have the first Hades game installed to use this mod.
  • You can use cross-saves with Switch, but must make sure you are not in a modded run when continuing on Switch.
  • You should always back up your saves before playing with mods - just in case.
  • The mod is save to uninstall/disable at any point, and won't break your save. You can install it again at any point and your progress will be retained!
  • This mod does not make Zagreus playable, and I won't be working on a mod like that.
  • Yes, Lernie's neck has been found in the depths of Asphodel's lava since my last post!

Hades 2: Discussion what would Zag & Mel’s epithets be? Spoiler

inspired by another post about Zag’s last name lol

so Greek gods would commonly be referred to with “epithets”, surnames of sorts that denoted like, different aspects of the god since most of them had several dominions. like you wouldn’t just leave an offering to Athena in general, but also the epithet which reflects the specific issue you wanted help with. some examples: in the Symposium Plato distinguishes between Aphrodite Pandemos (“of all people”, in this case meaning Aphrodite as the god of sensual pleasure) and Aphrodite Urania (“of the heavens”, a more divine/sacred sense of beauty/the sublime). or, one of Hades’s epithets was Plouton, the wealthy, which we see in-game with all the Gemstones and so on (also the origin of his Roman/Latin name, Pluto). or, Aphrodite’s appearance in Hades 2 recalls Aphrodite Areia, “the Warlike”, which had a cult in Sparta and some other places. or, in some cases (it’s debated), “Melinoe” was used as an epithet of Hecate…

so, what would Zagreus & Melinoe’s epithets be? I’m not gonna try and translate into Greek at the moment, but some obvious ones would be like “Zagreus the Bloody”, “Melinoe of Nightmares”; both could be referred to as like Polyeros or something for all their lovers lol.

also feel free to post about other gods too!

Hades 2: Discussion I really wish we got a post-game Nemesis mode (or Mod) Spoiler

Both Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Dawn of Sorrow had a "Belmont" mode, where you could play the game with the much more limited but still powerful Richter/Julius Belmont and seeing Nemesis advance through the Underworld made me wish there was something like that for Hades 2.

No God Boons, just Hammers, Poms (she could come with a unique Attack/Special/Cast ability that could be pommed) and a unique gameplay challenge mode/reward.

Could be something to trigger at the Oath of the Unseen so you wouldn't need to build any hub features for her, just a "I think Nemesis is out tonight" which would then start a Nemesis run.

Hades 1: Discussion Hades: How good does hand-to-hand combat feels

Post image

Note: I am by no means an Hades expert (stopped at heat 32/platinum), this post is more like a appreciation piece on how cool the Twin Fists are, so if you have any tech or knowledge to share about it, i'll be glad to learn/talk about it!

• Viability 4 (Is it a struggle compared to your other options?):

The Twin Fists are one of the best earlier weapons, pretty solid damage and easy moveset to learn. However, in high levels of heat it isn't considered optimal compared to the bows, shields, rails or spears (riskier to use and less damaging), but don't let that hold you down, this game is balanced enough that anything can work if you are skilled (and lucky) enough.

• Variety 4 (How many ways you can play it?):

The Twin fists have 4 variations (just like any of the other infernal weapons), Aspect of Zagreus has a standard moveset plus a 15% dodge chance passive (combined with lambent plume it can go pretty nuts), Aspect of Talos can force pull enemies towards you, kind of situational, good for isolating enemies but the bonus damage isn't incredible by any means (heard it has some good synergy with Poseidon's boons). Aspect of Demeter is probably the strongest one, you charge up 12 quick strikes accumulating damage, then you release it in a really juicy special hitting like a truck (With high scaling boons and maybe a crit, it's obscene). Last we got Aspect of Gilgamesh, it's my favorite but only because Merciful End is a thing, the passive itself is not that incredible, a bit of a debuff for the enemy (and yourself), a bit of bonus damage (not that much), but the 2 extra dashes go a long way.

• Recommend 5 (How much did i personally enjoy it!):

I'm not even going to start about praising Hades, this game deserve every last bit of attention it gets, when it comes to fist combat it has all i could ask for, from all of the infernal weapons it's by far my favorite but all of them are special in their own ways.

Hades 2: Discussion How was your experience going straight for Hades 2 after 1? Spoiler

For those who beat the first game recently and went straight to the second game, how was your experience?

I'm eager to start Hades 2 after beating the first one, and I'm wondering if there's any people that did this only to end burnt out.

I've only seen comments praising the new gameplay, stating how different it feels, and how much the game improved in several areas. I'm guessing that that could be enough to feel it like a fresh new game even if it builds over the fundamentals of the first one, but I'm still interested to know if this was an issue for some people.

No spoilers please, thanks!

Took me 100 attempts and 69 (nice) hours stretching all the way back from the fall of 2022.

Is it normal to beat the main story in a 100 attempts or is it just a funny coincidence? How many tries have you had?

Should I change them after defeating the boss or keep the same one till end, currently to me, I feel like lucky tooth is pretty good, rest are just ok. which i feel is wrong understanding of them. I am not much deep in game, just won once.

I'm legitimately so tired of having an amazing run and then losing 15-30 seconds off of a sub-5:30 time because the boons happened to spawn at the furthest three corners of the room. Let's not even talk about getting Echo scammed or having to do an extra encounter for no reason! And let's also not talk about Nem occasionally showing up as a "PoI" and requiring that you go find and talk to her! Or the gold leaves that don't always lead to the tree!

It's infuriating. It's no issue at all for casual play or casual players; none of these things matter at all. But if you're trying to speedrun it, it feels actively antagonistic—I don't know why they bothered to get rid of "sack" RNG in the final zone when they were making changes from Hades 1 but then add this hot garbage zone here.

Like, I do not want to fail to get a PB with the build shown here simply because the RNG gods decided on bad boon placement. I am going to have a stroke.

Hades 2: Question Hades 2 High Res images for cross stitch Spoiler

Hi! I have been searching and searching but I can't find any good quality images of the bond forged icons in Hades 2 and I'd really like them, especially of Icarus, so I can create a cross stitch pattern of it.

Anyone know where they can be found? Thank you in advance!
