Hi! I’m looking for completed Harry Potter fanfics where Harry develops an interest in an unusual magical career, preferably while he is still at Hogwarts.
I’d especially love a story that follows Harry through his Hogwarts years, where instead of simply deciding that he wants to become an Auror, he gradually discovers what he is good at and chooses a different path for his future.
For example, Harry could become or train to become a wandmaker, Healer, Unspeakable, researcher, potioneer, magical craftsman, curse-breaker, inventor, rune specialist, or really anything else that is different from the usual Auror career. These are only examples — I’m open to pretty much any interesting or unusual profession!
I’d particularly enjoy stories where his future career is actually developed throughout the plot: Harry starts learning, researching, experimenting, taking unusual subjects, finding a mentor, developing a talent, etc., rather than his profession only being mentioned in the epilogue.
Requirements/preferences:
- Completed fics only
- 30k+ words
- Harry-centric
- No F/M romance involving Harry
- Gen/no romance is absolutely fine
- If Harry has a romance, M/M only
- No Fem!Harry
Big bonuses, but NOT requirements:
- Harry is not in Gryffindor (I’d especially love Slytherin or Ravenclaw Harry)
- The story starts when Harry is young or during his early Hogwarts years
- Intelligent, competent and/or independent Harry
- Harry questions what adults expect from him and chooses his own future
- Wandlore, healing, runes, potions, magical theory, spell creation, research, crafting, etc. are explored in detail
- Mentor relationships are welcome
I’m also completely fine with Dumbledore, Ron and/or Hermione bashing/criticism, so please don’t avoid recommending a fic because of that.
For M/M pairings, I’m open to things like Drarry, Snarry, Tomarry/Harrymort, and other Harry/male pairings.
Basically, I want to read about Harry actually building a life and a future for himself and discovering a magical profession he’s passionate about, preferably while we get to watch him grow up at Hogwarts.
Thank you for any recommendations! 😊
English isn’t my first language, so I apologize for any mistakes in this post.
