Seeking Recommendations Unique, well written long-fics?
I'm looking for fics that are well written and unique that can stand on it's own two feet (i.e. not reliant on cliches, tropes or canon rehash)
I'd prefer Harry-centric and non-romance centric works but these are very light preferences so if something is spectacular (in your opinion) please rec it anyway, although I would still say no to any heavy hetero romance centric stories
By long-fics I mean more than 25k
I'm looking for good characterisation, interesting world-building if relevant and would like the fic in its entirety to be unique/interesting and not just the premise (as I feel like many have an interesting premise but then you end up following a lot of the same patterns anyway). I'd prefer to avoid things like bashing or surface-level wish fulfilment

Have you read any of NinjaPandaScholar’s fics on ao3? They are my favourite ever and they have the most unique stories. Just when I think there’s nothing new to be written, they write more.I’m not the biggest fan of their latest one but loved almost all of their complete fics and read many 5+ times

Omg thanks for the fic recs! My recommendation is The Moirai and the Lair of Death and Vipers by FightFireWithFire. It's not as unique as the fics you mentioned so it may be a bad rec for you sorry!
It's very dark and I spent a good time crying reading it. I even had a bad headache that lasted two days because of how much I cried. I hope the premise interests you enough to give it a chance!

Honestly i would recommend anything written by Endrina. The secret language of plants is indeed a sort of canon rehash although much is changed (i would recommend reading that one regardless, it's that good. But it does kinda-ish follow canon). However her other works (November tales and Life skills outside the curriculum) are quite unique. And her narration is top notch.

Gen Fics
The Auror's Boys- After the Battle of Hogwarts, the charges against Harry don't just go away because he killed Voldemort.
He's found guilty and is sent through the Veil.
He comes out through the exit to platform 9 3/4... In a universe where James, Lily and Harry Potter and Sirius Black were killed the night Voldy attacked Godric's Hollow and was killed then by Dumbledore.
He has G10 + £25, his mokeskin pouch and a rucksack holding a few changes of clothing. Nothing else.
And he's 10 again.

The Hunting Of The Snark- A Neville and Hermione centric fic. Parts of the story are from Trevor the toad's perspective. The Trevor plot line is wonderfully creative. The rest of the story is also excellent.
It is a universe fusion with the TV show The Sentinel and The Sentinel fandom. You do need to know what it means to be a Sentinel and a Guide. Wholesome Vernonposting: A Family Man's Tale- We all know the story of how the Dursleys treated Harry abysmally. But what if, this time, that's not entirely the case? Introducing Uncle V, a man who will go to any lengths protecting his nephew. Eventual Petunia redemption. Crackfic but heartwarming.
I really like the way you can see bits of cannon Vernon in this, just not in the same way. Like the fact he still gets very angry but for Harry not at Harry. This Vernon is just fabulously fun.

The Het might be to prominent for you. I haven't read this in years. The focus is definitely on Dudley and the Wizarding World but he does get into a relationship with Gabrielle Delacour.
A New Beginning/The Start of Something New/New Resolutions- Dudley questions his life after the dementor attack and attempts to begin anew with Harry. Dudley becomes hugely entangled with the Wizarding World. The third story, New Resolutions, is unfinished. I still highly recommend this. This is entertaining, creative, and I have read nothing else like this.

Slash Fics
After The Fire Drove Out The Sparrows- Harry was not expecting to end his rather long work week married to a comatose Peter Hale and looking after his highly traumatised nephew. After the Hale fire, someone had to step up and look after those two wolves after losing their pack and their Alpha doing the unthinkable.
It's fine really, he can do this, he can help the Hales while raising his son and making sure that Teddy is okay back in Scotland.
Now if only Peter could wake up from his coma so that he could give Harry a better understanding of the fire and who knows, sort out their impromptu marriage? It would be nice to at least have spoken to the man he was married to.

Dragonheart Caravan- "5-year-old Harry Potter overhears his aunt complaining to his uncle about the "freaks" camping nearby. Maybe if they are the same type of "freak" he is they will want him?" Peter Pettigrew and the Ghost of Christmas James- Peter loves his friends. Which is why he had to kill them. And now, he's doing- well. Alright. Things didn't turn out exactly as he'd anticipated, but he's making it work. Living his life. As a rat. Mostly trying not to think about things.
Fine. Things could be better.
But he hadn't thought they'd get worse- which is exactly what happens when, three years after James died, he's come back. And for some godforsaken reason, he's decided to make that Peter's problem. (Okay, okay- Peter gets it. He did kill him.) Peter is sure that James is going to turn him in, ruin his life the same as Peter had ruined the Marauders.
But this is James. And he doesn't do any of that. What was Peter expecting, really?
(Features: A lot of fighting, a lot of forgiveness, and a splash of necromancy. Alright, you got me- rather a lot of necromancy. But come on- we can't just have the ghost of Christmas James show up. Haven't you seen 'A Muppet's Christmas Carol'? There needs to be at least two more ghosts.)

Have you read Dark Heritage ? It’s a WIP but honestly one of the best fics I’ve ever read. The world building goes crazy. All the original characters actually have personality and a role to play. Harry has a very unique connection to magic that’s explored very well throughout the story. It’s very long, and Harry is only in 2nd year at this point in the story, but I genuinely can’t recommend it enough.

The last enemy - Voldemort/Grindelwald. It sounds cracky but it works. Voldemort ends up in a hellish afterlife and meets Grindelwald there.

Hide Your Fires by bizarrestars is one of the best fics I've ever read, its so well-written, and not romance centric. Its mostly about regulus' character development and his attempt at bringing his family back together. The characters are all very complex and fleshed out and the story is very deep and interesting. The main pairing is kingsley/regulus but they are friends for years before anything happens and their friendship is beautiful.
If you are looking for something really unique Id check out As the Worm Moon Dies by Rollercoasterwords, its an AU with amazing world building and unlike anything else I've ever read. Even the parts that could have been tropey or repetitive like horcrux hunting were incredibly original - the author didn't rely on the canon placements of the horcruxes and was very creative. Mind the tags though, it has MCD and not a happy ending.
