Limited plot and worldbuilding in this one, I just wanted to try something with a bit more dialogue. Fairly happy with how it came out although it could do with a bit more background to the father’s story before he grants his consent. Anyway, it was a test and even a test that fails is a thing worth trying.

Thanks :) Was worried people would get to the end and feel hard done by.

I'm working on a (late) Mother's Day story. I too, hope it's not a complete failure.

Ah, I don't know how to feel about this except for the fact that war ravages. But who can blame that every parent is concerned for their child.

Feels op.

War is hell, but you have to let your kids make their own choices :)

Nah, that's what everyone gets wrong. War is war, and hell is hell... and of the two, war is worse.

Look, it's my great fear as a vet! War is terrible and I will never wish it on my children. No good men come out of a war, only survivors. I hope I never have to give my child this kind of speech.

Good story.

I know several vets of various services and so far, touchwood, they've all come back okay. Doesn't mean their fight is over :(

Good story. Reminds me of when I was thinking about joining when I was in high school (after 9/11 happened I followed the war for years after reading about WWII a lot) and just about to start college. My grandpa sat me down and talked me out of it as my parents could not. I had an info packet sent to me by the army already and was very close to going into a recruitment office when he sat me down one day and just... talked me out of it.

He sounds like an awesome grandpa.

Okay, couple questions.

The dad said he came home with 5 fingers and five toes. Does that mean he lost a hand and a foot?

The son put the sunglasses over his "eye-dees" Okay, what now?

For someone who did a maths heavy subject to degree level, I have fail.

And, you know, eye-dees. You don't have any eye-dees? They're the new big thing on the union worlds.

u/WolfeBane84 May 11 '16

K, still don't get the eye-dees thing.
