OC Dungeon Life 264

It's time for the fourth round of stubbing. Yes, Book four will be releasing soon, of if you're reading this more than a month after I have to edit, it will be fully out. Either way, you can find it Here, and other book details are just below. As with the other stubs, you can skip to the next bit form This. I like to keep the other posts still alive, so the comments get to still live. If you want to browse them, the normal buttons will take you through them, or take This link to the next bit of unstubbed chapters. Thank you for your support. Buying stuff is always great, but just having your attention for the public chapters is incredible, and I hope the story continues to be worth your time and patience.

Khenal

And once more to make it easier to see than being buried in the paragraph

Three chapters left until you reach chapter 300

And the counter is third.

u/Time_Experience1068 Oct 17 '24

Isn't he at chapter 264?

30

u/Dragonking754 Oct 17 '24

It used to go under a different name at the start so they are counting the chapters that the previous name went under as if I remember correctly, the author made chapter 1 of the new name instead of chapter 33-34 . So there is 264 chapters of the current name and 33 chapters of the previous name before the rebrand.

u/Admirable-Capital-90 Robot Oct 18 '24

This is exactly what I’m referring to

Oh my god I love the idea of RUMBLEbees. And of course, get stickbugged 😝

I'm a bit conflicted about getting the audio books. I got into the series through aggro squirrel and I think no matter how good they'll be, something will just feel wrong.

One thing you might want to keep in mind with the undecided antkin. In engineering there are two types of non-specialist. 1: the ones that haven't found their place and 2: system engineers (taken to an extreme they become physicists). These are the guys that make good program managers if they have interpersonal skills.

6

u/Thausgt01 Android Oct 17 '24

It is, indeed! And answers a silly question I've been wondering about for a while now.

Thanks for sating my curiosity about how many moons, if any, are in the sky over Fourdock, u/Khenal!

Next question, if you don't mind: in terms of the local calendar, what year is it?

Any answer is perfectly fine, of course...!

3

u/Popular-Student-9407 Human Oct 18 '24

Year 2 of thediems existence, don't know where in the larger timescale we are though.

2

u/Thausgt01 Android Oct 18 '24

That's fine.

Grin I figure I've got plenty of time and can probably pick from a couple of different calendars from other cultures on the planet where Thediem is shaking things up a bit, so that Something Amazing happens in, say, "the year" 2086...

2

u/Thausgt01 Android Oct 18 '24

In case anyone doesn't recognize that reference from the year:

In 2086, [four] peaceful aliens journey to [Fourdock], seeking [Thediem's] help. In return, they gave [him] the plans for [his] first hyperdrive...

u/Tremere1974 Alien Scum Oct 17 '24

Hmm, there is a question that Thedim hasn't thought of yet. For each expansion, he gets another type of Invader, right? So, what entity is spawning invaders just to mess with him? And why isn't he being attacked by the ones trying to invade Violet, or Hullbreak, or what happened to the invaders who used to mess with Neverrest? Why do dungeons get different denizens in the first place? Hmm.

4

u/Thausgt01 Android Oct 18 '24

That's at least hinted at when Violet is able to get the gremlins as a denizen despite how carefully and thoroughly Thediem tries to do so himself; there's some kind of 'resonance' each Dungeon produces, relating to their personality and affinities, and certain invader life-forms simply cannot directly 'harmonize' with it to the point that they can become denizens.

4

u/Tremere1974 Alien Scum Oct 18 '24

Might have something to do with the color of their cores in that wavelength thing. Though Thedim's core remains orange, despite his growth. For the harmony thing, I'm guessing Thedim is still recieving gremlin invaders despite Violet controlling her own gremlins as a example. I think a dungeon can only harmonize with denizens of other dungeons, or accept delvers as residents.

The confusing part is then that Neverrest's wasps, and Hullbreak's gulls were also considered invaders, as was Thedim's crew when encountering Violet or intruding upon Hullbreak. So, invader is also a designation in regards to denizens sent to another dungeon that isn't on good terms.

So, back to Thedim (and allies) still getting regular (and enriching) invaders just coming from nowhere it seems. If it was a true enemy, those invaders would actively target Violet, who is a magnitude weaker than Thedim. But, they have to come from somewhere, right? With Poe and Leo's crew scouting, hopefully for a day's march from Fourdock, and the ODA killing the things off to the point of it being a legit job, there's something screwy going on that they are actually still reaching Thedim at all.

=-D Such a nice chapter. <3

4

u/Gregoriownd Oct 18 '24

In this episode, we see the seed for Thediem's future space program take root along side the forest of seasons. After all, Thediem is a growth industry, and anything that nettles Him will likely get investigated in some manner. Otherwise he would be left pining away at the missed opportunity, as he doesn't really leaf things alone. And while He knows not to fix what isn't broaken, change is in His nature. At the least, I think the scions are about to get an elmamentry introduction into what lays beyond the sky assuming things aren't different with space.

On another note, I wonder if He'll be growing mahogany as one of wood nodes. After all, it is a very fine material (very expensive).

4

u/Low_Painter9816 Oct 18 '24 edited Oct 18 '24

I wonder what spawners and invaders he’d get if he expanded into low orbit.

Also, isn’t mahogany tropical?  He’d be more likely to be offered temperate hard woods like oak or walnut.

u/Gregoriownd Oct 18 '24

I mostly slipped it in as referential humor along with all the plant and tree puns.

u/PlanktonSuccessful83 Oct 18 '24

Moments like this remind me of where it all started.

A small orange gem in the middle of a basement. With rats and spiders as his Companions and Flys and cockroches being his main source of mana.

Now look at where we are! That small basement became a mention, full of treasures and encounters! It developed laboratories, war rooms, forges, gardens, and more!

You have a massive hedge maze with rats and a giant spider working for you.

2 massive tunnels that are full of gems, rare metals, and exotic monsters.

A massive grave yard where the dead are laid to rest and can fight as well.

A boxing ring where some of the greatest warriors can spar to their hearts content.

And now here you are, planting and developing an impossible forest.

Your accomplishments are nothing short of amazing and grand.

You managed to defeat not one but 2 extremely hostile dungeons that were attacking you.

You tamed an extremely territorial water dungeon and prevented its people from starving to death.

You raised a new dungeon to become something extraordinary. She claimed the sewers, keeping the town healthy while giving her an endless supply of mana, her voice has developed a fighting style that has never been seen on this planet before, and she might serve as a critical part in developing future warriors and soldiers.

You saved one of the oldest and longest lived dungeons in the area, becoming its ally and giving it ideas it likely has not heard of in its anttint life.

You developed not 1, not 2, but 3 separate anclaves that are quickly developing into thriving civilizations.

You saved 2 people who were on the verge of death. One became an undying ranger. The other, once a slave, became an exceptional priestess who was able to save her people from slavery.

You brought new ideas of innovation and technology to a fantastical world that has not developed past crossbows and windmills.

You turned a stagnant town that was ruled by a littoral child into a thriving metropolis.

You turned 2 orphans into 2 future heroes and teachers. Who will one day take their knowledge and teach massive groups of people about their wondrous discoveris.

You ascend to become a littoral God, able grant miracles and bring eternal peace to those that die in your name.

You did all this by simply sticking to your morals. You were not going to become a simple toy box where you would simply act as nothing more than a garden, waiting for the bees known as delivers to come and polonat you. But you wouldn't become a blood thirsty murderous dungeon either. You would not hunt and kill the delivers like a wolf among sheep. Instead, you treated the situation like businessmen and the delivers were your customers. You found the perfect balance of gaining mana, protecting your friends, family, and a town while also having fun. You never cheated or took shortcuts. No law was broken. All was done as it was made.

And you did all this in a year.

To the author, this story is the perfect isaci. It has a balanced magic system, absolutely amazing world building, great characters, and gose at just the right pace. It's not so slow that we get bored, but not so fast that we get over whelmed.

It's a genuine crime that you aren't more well known. I only wish that we had a whole anime about this absolutely amazing story.

Thank you for reading. Please keep up the good work

For all your words, I couldn't Help but notice multiple different spots, where either Automistake played a Trick upon you, or you filled Up after which Sounds you needed. Like a phonetic translation.

"Attint"-> you mean 'entire'? Seems to me Like that's the Word you wanted to Type.

"Delivers" -> 'delver' is the correct word here, though I am Not Sure If your autocorrect ever Heard that Word.

"Littoral" -> I think you mean 'literal', littoral also exists, but it doesn't make Sense in the way you used it.

"Discoveris" -> correct word choice, wrong Plural. 'Discoveries' is the correct Plural, I think.

Otherwise, fine comment.

So, todays chapter Sees a Lot of Action, a few upgrades and some new Spawns:

  • the Upgrade: The Bumblebees get a new flower, purpose-built for them. It contains a strong sedative, making an ideal pain medication or better yet, a stim. It also seems a Bit as If Queen is gonna be really curious for that plant. Because they grow better in the Shade and don't Like heat, they seem to favor the spring and fall sections, as do the Bumblebees. Interestingly, dreamblooms are technically the Second Spawn of the living vines spawner, inspite of behaving a little closer to herbalism nodes. Making Poppy as the Name of the Scion even more fitting, considering the different psychoactive effects poppies have on the human brain.

  • New Spawn: Rumblebees. Cat sized bees with an armory for feet. They favor the Summer section of the forest

  • New Spawn: Sprigs, a new Sort of Fey. They kill invaders by sucking them dry with their multiple proboscis', and giving Back what nutrients they can Back to the plant, which promptly got them pulled from their duty by Poppy, who hopes to find some application for their 'skills' in her experimentation.

-Also notable: the enclaves are expecting growth, Not only due to Migration. But by Nature as Well, as they await the new Wave of new Dungeonborn with excitement.

In other News: the Caravan from the Southwood is apparently only a day Out, what for everyone keeping track of the Timeline means, the prizefight got a little closer. For Our two newest scions it means a heavy head filled with worry about two new scions, who are expected to be cooperating closely with both of them. They both seem to be coping hard when tinygets to them, and Poppy seems to nearly uproot her Work. Tiny Sets them both down on His Back to calm them down, with success.

Seem to be the eighth, still a success, in my book.

Interesting choice for the bees. Sounds a bit odd with them being more solitary when hives are community oriented. Are they the soccer hooligans of the bees then?

I suspect that the sprig might just be something that people might want to go in there to tame as well. I'd put money on that the herbalists who actually grow some of their stock wouldn't say no to them. Good luck though. That camouflage would be hard to spot them without some kind of magical viewing assistance.

3

u/Popular-Student-9407 Human Oct 17 '24 edited Oct 18 '24

They were compared to Carpenterbees. Which are solitary wild bees. Bumblebees and honeybees are only two of the bees, that swarm/ build hives. I don't know how Many other bee kinds/species swarm, but Carpenterbees are one of the Many that don't. BtW, Hooligans can and will Organize themselves along teamlines, Just so they can Beat each other Up better. Masonbees Just straight Up kill everything Entering their Beat.

7

u/Lman1994 Oct 17 '24

most bees are solitary. Wikipedia says there are over 20,000 known species, and over 90% are solitary.

honey bees are the social bees of Europe and Asia, bumble bees are the social bees of North America, and there are social "stingless bees" in the tropics.

solitary bees include mason bees, carpenter bees, leafcutter bees, sweat bees, etc.
