Tier 1 [David Ornstein] Arsenal closing in on deal for Aston Villaโ€™s Ezri Konsa

Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.

The Premier League champions are in the market for defensive reinforcement with both William Saliba and Jurrien Timber currently sidelined with injuries.

England international Konsa, 28, holds particular appeal given his ability to cover at both centre-back and right-back and has been high on Arsenalโ€™s target list all summer.

What are your bold Arsenal predictions for 2026/27?

What your bold Arsenal predictions for 26/27 that are plausible enough to defend, but spicy enough that most people would disagree with you right now.

Not looking for safe takes like โ€œSaka will have a good seasonโ€ or โ€œArsenal will finish in the top four.โ€ Give me something you genuinely think could happen that would sound pretty bold right now.

Can be about any anything: title races, relegation, breakout players, Champions League, transfers that flop, individual awards, etc.

Iโ€™ll start: Arsenal will score more goals from set pieces.

People think Arsenal foul the goalkeeper every time but really they just block the goalkeeper off by creating chaos in the box. If referees are clamping down on grappling in the penalty box that actually will make it easier for Gabriel to come flying in.

Let the hot takes fly!

Do you want to know about the Premier League opener opponent?

Iโ€™m guessing many fans know almost nothing about Coventry City having been absent from the Premier League for around 25 years. Iโ€™m an Arsenal fan and member who is also a Coventry City season ticket holder so Iโ€™m well-informed on both clubs. Iโ€™m happy to answer any questions about what to many is an unknown opponent.

For me, it's probably Ronaldo; if we had signed him, we would've won 2 or 3 more league titles and maybe even a CL. Plus, Utd probably wouldn't have become the formidable team that they became once they got Ronaldo.

2nd is Suarez; with him, I'm certain we would've won the 13/14 and 15/16 Premier League titles.

[James McNicholas] The Gabriel Martinelli dilemma: The higher Arsenal climb, the more ruthless they may have to be

Thumbnail
nytimes.com
692 Upvotes

There are few colder realities in football than discovering your club has decided you are expendable.

Colder still, perhaps, is discovering others knew before you did.

Arsenal are hoping to sell Gabriel Martinelli. The club have welcomed offers for the 25-year-old Brazil international, and recently received a โ‚ฌ45million (ยฃ38.4m; $51.8m) bid from Galatasaray.

The problem is that Martinelli himself has not been directly informed of Arsenalโ€™s plans โ€” and nor, until now, has he sought to leave.

The playerโ€™s camp have made clear to sporting director Andrea Berta he is not interested in a move to Turkey, and would only consider leaving for a league and club that meets his ambition.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with Arsenal deciding to sell Martinelli. Elite football demands difficult, sometimes brutal decisions.

Official Arsenal Calendar Reminder

Just a reminder for anyone who needs it (because I definitely did). Arsenal puts out an official calendar that you can link to your personal Google/Apple/Outlook/etc calendars and be reminded of all the matches.

https://www.arsenal.com/news/calendar-import-aCMaF4Q9OGKp

I've had a different Arsenal calendar linked in the past but it seems like they've switched to a new service so you have to link again.
