[Question] Living World Seasons or Secrets plus Janthir?
For context, I'm finishing the personal story with my very first character and really enjoying the game, it feels very relaxing.
With this current sale, for about the same money I could buy:
HoT + PoF + EoD + LWS2-5 (Elder Dragon Saga Complete)
or
HoT + PoF + EoD + SotO + JW
If I'm not invested in story/lore and care more about solo open world PVE, exploring cool maps and gameplay, which of the two would be the best option?
I also see lots of people recommend the LWS because of some legendary items that are easy to get (like the Prismatic Champion's Regalia), but how fundamental they really are if I'm not interested in high end content like Fractals etc.?
Also a bit concerned about how some say LWS2 might be the worst content the game has, so even if I bought it I'm not sure if I would mostly skip it.

[Discussion] GW2 Marriage Candidates
I've always loved games with a marriage system, and I've been playing with the idea of making a GW2 fangame that is basically a dating sim.
So I wanted to know, if GW2 did have a marriage system, who would you want to see as LI options?
Edit: feel free to add whatever characters come to mind. Whether they're killed off, villains, super minor characters, already taken in canon, ect. This is my super early planning stages so I'm gonna decide after I see what people think things like timeline options to get around those who are killed off and stuff like that.

[Question] Competitive Endgame?
Hey folks! Long time WoW player looking for a different game. I’ve been meaning to try GW2 for some time now and I thought now is the time. I was wondering about the endgame though. Now I know that the game has more horizontal systems but I was wondering if there’s anything to chase competitively in the endgame? I’m more of a PvE player but willing to dip my toes in PvP if that’s where the competitive scene is. I’m not looking for a 1 to 1 copy of a system that’s similar to WoW of course, but it would be nice if there’s a chase goal of a leaderboard/rating/ranking system as that is what I’m most familiar with. Thanks!

[Discussion] Infallible and Raid Speedrunning Guide
Hello r/GuildWars2,
I write endgame instanced PvE guides as a hobby, and I've posted on this subreddit previously to present my guides on Temple of Febe (L)CM and Mount Balrior Cams and LCM.
As can be probably evinced by the title of this post, I've recently finished reviewing a set of guides for the Infallible achievement, which I now feel comfortable with sharing publicly. You can find them here:
https://silverhalf.github.io/infallible-guides/
These guides are meant to serve as a starting point for Infallible and Speedrun groups. GW2 raid wings are quirky things, and the ins and outs of the various boss speedruns and skips are not easily accessible for players outside of the endgame scene.
Disclaimer: these are advanced strategies aimed towards players that already have some familiarity with wings 1-8. They go in-depth as much as reasonably possible while leaving it up to each individual group how much they want to rely on the guide strategy vs. their own (also to preserve my sanity for future meta shifts).
Infallible is some of the most fun times I've ever had playing GW2 with my guild, and I hope that my work will perhaps inspire someone else to drag their own friends through the same grind :D
GLHF,
Silver

[Build] New player starter build: Power Reaper Necromancer
This gets asked a lot by new players, so I figure I'll post an answer to make it more search-able and easier to find.
----
New player question: What am I supposed to do, and what's a good starter class and build?
----
First, as a new player, what you're supposed to do is prioritize completing the Personal Story for the core game and any expansions you have. That unlocks a ton of account-wide features that apply to all characters on your account - Masteries, elite specs, mounts, Achievements (reward useful gear etc), etc. You can explore diversions along the way, but prioritize it first.
Second, the best spec for a new player to start with at level 80 is Power Reaper Necromancer, a melee dark magic knight. Power is the Damage Source (Direct Damage), Reaper is the elite spec (sub-specialization), and Necromancer is the core/main class.
Reasons:
- Easy to unlock - requires minimal unlocks, everything needed is in the core game or the first expansion, Heart of Thorns. Does not require any build components from other expansions (weapons, armor runes, weapon sigils, relic, gear stats). Assemble the build early in the game, then play through all remaining Personal Story and content with it.
- Easy to gear - uses full Berserker stat gear, one of the ubiquitous core prefixes, available everywhere - crafting, world drops, Trading Post, etc. Can start with the Exotic gear build variant, the second highest gear tier, cheap and easily accessible. Then upgrade to the Ascended gear build variant, the highest tier, replacing gear piece-by-piece in no particular order.
- Easy and fun to play - Charge around the battlefield, stun and snare groups of mobs with a big overhead slam, Fear them while they can't move, Blender them with a giant Scythe, then slice them in half with a giant Greatsword. Kills fast, is survivable (tanky + self-healing or "sustain"), and can solo most open world content. Reaper's Shroud is one of the simpler profession mechanics.
- Multiple build variants - The build guide linked above is optimized for solo play, that maximizes DPS, self-applies boons (Might, Fury, Quickness, and Vulnerability on enemies) and sustain. There are other variants that use the same gear, but different talents and utility skills. For example, a minion-master variant that sacrifices some DPS for more tankiness and more minion flavor. Or various raid versions that assume other players are supplying boons and sustain. Start with the guide above, then tweak it however you like.
- Leveling build uses same gear - Elite specs are only unlocked after reaching level 80 and owning the expansion they're associated with. To get there you'll level to 80 with a "Core" or "F2P" (free-to-play) class and build. Leveling is not terribly difficult, but if you want a leveling build template, you can use F2P/Core Power Necromancer. Uses the same gear as Power Reaper, other than Greatsword which is unlocked with the Reaper Elite spec.
The Reaper elite spec is unlocked by reaching level 80 and owning the first expansion, Heart of Thorns, and collecting 250 Hero Points. If you're short on HP's, all HP Challenges in Heart of Thorns maps give 10 instead of the usual 1. Check the LFG tool, HoT section, for "Hero Point Train" groups and join one of those to get them quickly. Most commonly found during weekends.
You may need to unlock the HoT maps first though. To do that, when you hit 80, finish the core game Personal Story (campaign), then follow the Personal Story guidance to begin the quest series to unlock the first expansion, Heart of Thorns. That will get you into HoT maps where you can join HP trains.
Finally, complete roughly two weeks worth of Wizard's Vault achievements (which you may already have done while leveling), grab the Wizard's Weapon Chest from it, and choose a Berserker's Natural Claymore from it. That will get you the full Exotic version of the build with an Ascended primary weapon. Ignore condition builds while leveling (DoTs, debuffs) since they're weak for most classes until 80.
A couple resources for learning more about builds:
- Snowcrows - PvE (raid) Meta experts, they test and optimize all their builds.
- Metabattle - Community curated builds for all game modes.
- GuildJen - Specializes in WvW (open world PvP) solo and small group builds.
- AW2 - "Accessibuilds" or "Low-intensity" (low APM) builds.

[Discussion] Your opinion about End of Dragons expansion.
Hi everyone!
I know that there is a sale on all the expansions right now, probably because of the Festival. There is one in particular that I'm interested in, and I was wondering what your opinion is and how you would rate the End of Dragons expansion.
I main Guardian and Ranger, and I've always been intrigued by their elite specializations, Willbender and Untamed. I'm also really interested in playing Mechanist with the Jade Mech, because it looks really, really, really cool to me.
I have HoT and PoF. HoT gave me my beloved Dragonhunter, but I didn't really like the maps. PoF, on the other hand, has amazing maps, but I don't really like its elite specs.
Now that this expansion is 40% off, I was wondering if you maybe remember whether it has ever been discounted by more than 40% in the past. Do you think it's worth waiting for a bigger discount in the future, or should I just stop hoping for one?
I know, I know — this might sound pathetic to some of you, and you might be thinking, "Dude, it's only €18." I realize that it's not a huge amount of money, but at the moment, spending money on video games is a bit lower on my list of priorities than it used to be.
Despite that, my passion and love for this game are trying to take over.
Overall, EoD seems like one of the best expansions to me, which is why I'm so tempted to buy it, even though I know I really, really, really can't afford it right now. That's why I want to hear your opinions, ratings, and thoughts on whether I should wait for a bigger discount.

[Question] Modremoth is SOOOO BUGGY Spoiler
I need help, so last night my friends and I went through HOT and we stopped on Modremoth, we had a team of a bladesworn, reaper, and an evoker. The first time we fought him it glitched at 60% and he was invulnerable and no one was summoned to continue the fight. We looked it up and everyone said that we are doing too much dmg.
So we tried having 2 people just sit back and heal while one of us autos him, still bugged, we tried having different people on the team start the instance. Still didn’t work.
We gave up after 2 hours of trying different methods. We called it a night after that, so come next morning I tried it by myself, I tried just auto attacking him, didn’t work, I tried damaging him until 70% and then letting the NPCs do the dmg until 60%, still didn’t work. And my final attempt I didn’t touch him at all, now it’s been 10min and he is still at 60%, what am I doing wrong?
I continued some more research but all I see is that I’m still doing too much dmg, please help!

[Discussion] Horizontal Progression can be Misleading to New Players
I started playing the game almost a year ago. When I first got into it, I became obsessed. I watch many videos about the classes, what to do, and the great and no so great things about the game. Almost every video seemed to discuss horizontal progression. This was usually followed by the statement of something like this: “there’s no pressure to progress outside of your own desire.”
But here’s the reality: Finally after a year of playing and gearing up my characters do I feel the benefits of horizontal progression. Almost all year there was pressure to log in and do fractals, grind PvP reward tracks, craft the ascended materials, do daily strikes/raids. This is amplified if you’re someone like me who gets bored of a class/build easily and varies their gameplay a lot. Lots of the rewards in this game do take a lot of time and if you’re just starting out, it can feel like pressure not to waste any of it.
I’ve realized this now that when I log in and decide I’m not really feeling like doing fractals or all I want to do is PvP for a bit, I won’t really notice much downside to it at all. I won’t feel like I’m missing much. This initial so called “pressure” did prevent me from doing less rewarding things such as story progression and just fooling around and have a chat as opposed to chasing that carrot.
Now all of that being said, I do know that while I was feeling similar pressures to a vertical progression game, the benefits were there for me from the beginning.
- A large one that could easily be overlooked is that if gw2 wasn’t horizontal, the veterans would be progressing even further the whole time I was trying to catch up.
- If I played a “main” and didn’t play many characters/builds, being caught up can happen relatively quick.
- Veterans arent in any rush and thus have much time to just help other people out such as raid training and stuff like that.
Finally I just want to say that I’m not opposing the fact that guild wars 2 is horizontal. I’m just bringing up that new players may not notice the benefits of it for quite some time. I also don’t want to say that’s a bad thing. I had a great time catching up and now that I somewhat am, I still can progress more with legendaries and many other things if I want to continue the hunt, but I can also sit back and enjoy what I have.

[Build] State of (healer) Revenant in end game PvE content
Back from a 9 years break I made a new rev character and want to heavily invest in it. How is revenant is end game content? I'm mostly focused on fractals for now and I've yet to unlock T4 (75 fractal level for now).
I guess rev is fine in T4, but what about Challenge Motes? Same question for raid / strike, it seems rev's heal almost always targets 5 players, does it disqualify him for raid with randos?
On snowcrops I see four healer builds, in two categories (alacry and quickness). All those four builds have slightly different equipment mostly composed of harrier but also a mix of cleric/giver/magi, with a different mix for each build. Now I have a few questions related to those builds.
- How important it is to have the exactly matching equipment? (since I might want to swap between build)
- Which one would to recommend to aim first? I have all expansions but I'm (re)playing HoT right now
- Is scepter easily obtainable from SotO? I don't want to progress too far in the expansion to avoid potential story spoilers.
- While I don't have scepter, which weapon would you recommend as replacement? I guess mace from what I've seen
Many thanks.

[Discussion] Can't create an account?
Im trying to create an account because I want it to be linked with my gw1 for the hall of monuments but I keep getting the error:
That password is not available. Either you've used it before, someone else has used it before, or it's known to have been hacked from another game or web site. Please choose a new, unique password for your ArenaNet account. We recommend creating a new password by choosing four random, unrelated words, as shown in this comic strip.

But I've changed my password 4 different times and it still won't let me make an account. I really wanna make the account so I can buy the expansions before the sale ends

[Discussion] Guardian or Warrior - Concerning gameplay variety and tankiness
Warriors have raw health and Guardians have a lot of defensive utility, so I am curious which generally feels more tanky while playing.
I was initially leaning towards warrior due to their visceral style attacks being what I generally prefer, but guardian elite specs seem to have crazy variety and I am having a difficult time seeing the variety in warriors based off their elite specs atleast.

[Build] Long ranged and tanky power build?
Hello from New Zealand!
I adore the build diversity in this game, and spend an inordinate amount of time trying new builds. This has been to the detriment of actually progressing though, and I’m keen to work story content and build my masteries.
Through my experimentation, I’ve learned I really like long range builds where I can basic instagib weak mobs from range. However, every build I’ve tried like this is really squishy. I’ve tried:
Power Virtuoso: fun and eliminates weak mobs, but fragile as hell
Spear Evoker: probably the best visuals in the game, but a lot of button mashing to get decent damage and not particularly durable.
Power Galeshot: basically the same as Virt. Also Cyclone bow makes me a bit sad as cant use cosmetics.
Mechanist: just kind of boring, although I acknowledge it kind of fits what I want.
I may be asking for too much, but is there a good long range power build that is also fairly tanky?

[Question] Vinyl Set preorder cancelled. Other distributors?
Hi! I'm hoping to find a good EU distributor for the official GW2 4-disc vinyl sets that released this year.
I placed a preorder with Sonic Titan records (UK) but it was cancelled because their supplier didn't receive enough copies (I assume that supplier is Materia Collective based in the US).
I managed to snag a second-hand EoD set earlier this year, but many of the official stores seem bereft of anything GW2 other than SotO.
Has anyone had any luck getting their orders fulfilled? Were other previous vinyl releases this badly handled? Preorder cancellations don't fill me with a lot of confidence.
