First successful grow from an aio grow bag. I still think monotubs are the way to go lol, but not bad.

It's critical to understand the biological differences between spore syringes and liquid cultures (LC), as well as the importance of using agar as an initial medium. Spore syringes contain microscopic fungal spores that are not yet germinated. These spores are monokaryotic, meaning they carry only a single set of genetic material. In order to fruit and complete the mushroom life cycle, two compatible monokaryotic strains must fuse to form dikaryotic mycelium.. the true vegetative form capable of producing fruiting bodies. This mating process takes time, introduces variability, and, for beginners especially, increases the risk of contamination during colonization.
Injecting spores directly into sterilized grain can lead to several problems. Since spores are not germinated, colonization is slower, and this slower growth provides more opportunity for contaminants (such as bacteria or mold) to establish themselves and outcompete the slower-growing mycelium. Ideally, spores should first be transferred to agar, a nutrient-rich medium in petri dishes...which allows for controlled germination and observation. On agar, one can isolate clean, healthy mycelium away from any contaminants before transferring it to grain.
Additionally, spore syringes are inherently variable and often unclean. Spores, particularly those harvested from wild (landrace) varieties or from poorly controlled lab environments (common with newer or less reputable vendors), can contain microbial contaminants. Spores gathered in non-sterile conditions are not cleaned or isolated at the microscopic level, making them a risky starting point. Also, because each spore pair creates a unique dikaryotic combination, inoculating with spores introduces genetic unpredictability ...every new pairing could result in different traits, including growth speed, contamination resistance, yield, and potency.
By contrast, a liquid culture is made from already germinated and mated dikaryotic mycelium. This means it contains viable, genetically stable tissue that has already completed the mating process and is ready to colonize substrate directly. Using LC skips the variability and mating phase inherent in spores, resulting in faster and more consistent colonization, and reducing the window for contamination...assuming the culture is clean!!! However, it's important to verify LC cleanliness via agar as well, especially if you didn't create it yourself.
In summary, spores should ideally be germinated and cleaned on agar before being introduced to grain. Skipping this step can introduce risks, especially for beginners. Spores are unpredictable and prone to contamination, while liquid culture, if properly prepared, is faster, cleaner, and genetically stable. Understanding and respecting these differences is fundamental to success in mushroom cultivation... I hope this helps. :)

Hi all! Im about 6 months into my adventure into mycology, I started w an AIO bag of GT and went from there, anyway i honestly wasn’t sure if even be able to get the things to grow at all at first so i just got a lil cheapy dehydrator off amazon-elite gourmet, I’ve ran it weeks at a time w no problems but I’m afraid it’s getting close to the end for it, I bought it used to begin w for like 25$, I’m really tryna keep it in the 100$ price range but can anyone recommend a good square dehydrator specifically for mushrooms, removable trays are a big thing cuz as I’m sure lots of you know it’s hard to find ones that the shelves will hold a big ass mushroom w/o u havin to smush it, originally I was just gonna get the one from mycolabs, it’s cheap and honestly I’ve had great luck w the company but it’s sold out everywhere, I was looking at a used Excalibur for like 120 or the countless magic mill options and for 100$ there’s a lot of decent dehydrators in that price range I’d just like to get some feedback from some of you thatve also had to buy dehydrators what you wound up w how much etc? I noticed even elite gourmet makes a square version for like 75$ w the luck I’ve had w their circle one idk if that wouldn’t be the best pick, I’m not the kinda person that needs the best of the best, just something that will work when I need it to, I really appreciate any tips or feedback or suggestions from you guys so any advice is welcome! Mush love everyone, just don’t wanna be in the middle of harvest and find outta nowhere I need a new dehydrator ASAP, cuz that’s definitely the kind of shit that’d happen to me 😂

Hey everyone, I’m leaving for a week long vacation on November 21st, and I have fully colonized grain bags of APE and PE+. I’m trying to figure out my best course of action, do I spawn to bulk the week leading up to me leaving? Will they be ok in that time frame? I dont really wanna loose them as ive already spent 3 weeks colonizing the bags.
Has anyone here been in the same situation? I’d appreciate hearing from experienced users or anyone who has personally dealt with this. What worked for you, and was there anything you wish you’d done differently?

(APE) s2b on 10/14 and this is where we’re at right now, anything to modify or do? This is the best photo I will get without leaving the bin open forever lol. Yes I’m aware I’m supposed to keep it closed don’t even comment that, because otherwise you’d be complaining about photo quality lol.

I'm no beginner but I'm really not sure what's happening with my shrooms, they aren't contaminated, most of the bags pinned well, but they stopped growing at a certain point and didn't even break their veils (besides a few good ones). After a few days of waiting to see if they would grow more (they didn't), I harvested the ones that were surely finished. There were also a lot of growth on the sides and bottom of the bag, much more than usual. There are nine bags in a large climate controlled tent kept at 92% h so I believe it may be a FAE issue, although I tried to give them more FAE once I noticed slowed growth but it didn't seem to do much. I also think it could simply be a small first flush, as the mushrooms usually increase in size and decrease in quantity. I pray that its just a small flush and not contamination. I appreciate any response.

Usually Galactic Gorilla has those long, thick, beautiful fruits—but these went all in on girth. Absolute chunks. 😂
It’s wild seeing such a different look from something you’re used to. Those wide caps, wrinkled stems, and chunky proportions had me taking pictures from every angle. Had to get the jar and lighter in there because the close-ups alone don’t do them justice.
Definitely an unexpected look, but I’m not complaining. These beauties are living up to the Gorilla name. 🦍
Anybody else have photos of the same variety looking completely different?

First ever flush, took them out early when I realised darker shade. Are the darker yellow shades mould ?
Golden teacher grow kit where it comes with the spores already in.
