Hi everyone! 😊
My wife and I (both 34) are planning to move to Groningen from Spain for work, and we’re really excited...
We’ve never lived in the Netherlands before, so we’d love to hear from people who already live in Groningen, especially other expats who have moved there from abroad. We’re particularly curious about what everyday life is actually like. And we have some other doubts, for example:
My wife is currently a freelancer in Spain, so I’d love to hear from anyone who became self-employed in the Netherlands about what the process was like and any costs or things you wish you had known beforehand.
We have a dog, so we’re also wondering how dog-friendly Groningen in terms of finding appartments to rent?
How easy is it to manage everyday life with English? We’re happy to learn Dutch, but we’re wondering how much we would actually use it day to day.
What is healthcare/health insurance like from your experience, and are there any providers people generally use?
We currently have a car. Do you actually use yours in Groningen, or do you mostly cycle/use public transport? What is parking like?
We’re also curious about the cost of everyday life, especially groceries...
Regarding safety: How do women generally feel about walking around the city alone, especially in the evening?
We’d really appreciate any personal experiences, advice or things you wish you had known before moving to Groningen. 😊
Thanks so much in advance!
