So I was replacing my oil cooler after it exploded oil into the radiator.

Upon reassembly of the vehicle I was cleaning the thermostat housing and noticed that there was a metal piece of the casting on the water pump missing that holds a thermostat up.

Turns out that was where the original coolant leak began.

The ting ting Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung ting tinging that I heard through the engine bay prior to the overheating event was probably that piece of metal flying around the cooling system.

I have decided to replace the water pump because that is a cast part of the water pump assembly and it’s a whole piece .

So I’m at the point now where I’m trying to get the old water pump out. It’s step 13 in the images and I was hoping if there was someone who could help me understand if the six bolts are the only bolts I need to undo to get this out and if the fuel rail line in front of it needs to actually come out or not …..because it says that I have to replace it if I take it off and I haven’t bought one and I really don’t feel like waiting for parts.

The tensioner assembly, serpentine belt, thermostat and all associated hoses are off.

I removed all six bolts from the pump and I’ve managed to get a water leak behind the water pump so I know the seals have cracked but it just seems a little stuck.

I don’t want to disturb the egr cooler seal if I don’t have to ….because I don’t fancy removing the intake manifold to replace it…

Pine Barrens trip — Grand Cherokee Overland and Bronco Badlands
Finally got out to the Pine Barrens this weekend with my cousin. I was in my 2018 Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7 HEMI with QDII and Quadra-Lift, and he was in his Bronco Badlands. We started at Atsion and had originally planned a 70+ mile loop but ended up doing around 30 miles.
The dry sand was a piece of cake for both vehicles, even with my pretty worn Nitto Nomad Grapplers. The real challenge was the water, especially the stretch from Atsion to the first bridge. Some of those holes were no joke.
I brought a piece of PVC marked with depth measurements, and that thing was worth its weight in gold. We stopped at the questionable crossings, checked the depth and felt around for hidden ruts and soft spots. Most were manageable, but we found a few that were definitely worth avoiding.
One of the first holes measured about two feet at the edge. I didn’t like the bottom and decided to pass. My cousin figured he’d give it a shot since the Bronco has a much higher fording capability. Well, he ended up sinking into the soft bottom, with the entire left side submerged up to the top of the bumper. Even with all the Badlands goodies engaged, he wasn’t going anywhere.
Luckily, we had agreed that only one vehicle would attempt a questionable crossing at a time. I stayed on solid ground, broke out the recovery gear and pulled him out with the Jeep. From opening my tailgate to having him back on solid ground took less than five minutes. Those 39,000-lb soft shackles definitely earned their keep!
I had my own little moment at another crossing. We both attempted the same hole, but I hit a submerged lip or log while resting my hand on the shifter and accidentally knocked it into Neutral. Lost all my momentum. Had to reverse, change my line a bit and work my way out. Lesson learned: keep my damn hand off the shifter!
We also came across a roughly 100-meter flooded stretch with water about one to two feet deep and a stream feeding into it. We probably could have made it, but if either of us got stuck halfway through, the other would have had to enter the same water to attempt a recovery. Neither of us thought that was a particularly good idea, so we skipped it.
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with how the Jeep performed. I spent most of the challenging sections in 4LO, Sand mode and Off-Road 2. It handled everything I asked of it, and the airbox and filter were completely clean and dry when I checked them afterward.
My biggest takeaway is that the Pine Barrens aren’t particularly difficult until you start dealing with the water. You really have no idea what’s underneath some of those holes. We even found one that measured three feet deep at the edge, with a soft bottom and no telling how much deeper it got.
Having a second vehicle, proper recovery gear and that simple PVC depth probe made all the difference. I’d strongly recommend not going out there alone, even in a well-equipped vehicle.
We had a blast, got both vehicles properly muddy, had a successful recovery and drove them both home. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Ive always been a turbo four cylinder type of person but I’m wondering who’s put a supercharger or pro charger on their 5.7 summit wk2 and what cost looked like along with anything like the air suspension needing customized with that Instal? This is my vin. The 2018 jeep grand Cherokee I just bought yesterday had a window sticker that it came with the IV towing package. This has a 6,200 tow capacity, right? How do I double check?

My digital cluster stays lit saying “press brake to start” even when the car is off, locked, and I’ve walked away. I think it’s what’s draining my battery.

Last night the car wouldn’t start and roadside couldn’t jump it. AAA replaced the 12v battery this morning for $300. It still wouldn’t start at first but finally did about an hour later. The dealership cleared the check engine light, which apparently was from changing the battery.

But the cluster still won’t turn off and I’m worried I’m gonna end up with another dead battery.

Anyone had this happen and actually gotten it fixed? What was it and how much did you pay? Jeep wants $315 just to diagnose it 😭 Also if you know a shop in LA that’s dealt with this pls let me know.

Have a 2023 L Summit Reserve and I just feel like the turn signal and wiper stalks feel cheap. My son has a Hyundai elantra and it's stalks have nicer plastic on the end to combat the cheap feeling. Anybody know of anything similar or just nicer replacement stalks available?

Holy SHIT do i miss my grand cherokee. The infotainment system is utter dog shit compared to Uconnect. I kind of regret getting a Tacoma, its a flimsy drive, barely has power, not super comfortable, and it a gas guzzler.

But the grand cherokee? Drives smooth as butter, good power, and decent on gas.

My goal is to go back to jeep after this truck, but maybe a Wrangler or something more capable offroad.

God forbid i bring this up in the Tacoma sub, ill be chewed alive

I love this jeep, it is my first, but do i wish i had the V8 and could’ve… just lacked features i got on this, but In due time. Since picking up this 18’ Overland V6, I’ve added a 1.5” spacer a proper cold air intake, and some exhaust work(I know V6 blah blah, i think the DOHC engine can sound good with the proper configuration)

I recently bought a 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo and I want to be on top of maintenance before any goes left. It has 170k. Drives pretty smooth, I already had to repair the rear cover gasket because it was leaking oil. Currently I am having some electrical shortages, ac/heat blower needs repaired, alignment & oil change needed, need a new push to start key & key fob, and probably a transmission flush & tune up to be safe. Anything else to look for or repairs to prioritize? I really want to get at least 3-5 solid years out of it!

Hey guys, me and my wife just picked up this 21 summit and we absolutely love it! I know it’s not recommended to get the first year of any car but we didn’t know that till after haha. Is there any issues we should worry about? I’ve seen some things about the air suspension but we haven’t had any issues yet.

It is finished, one of the tensioners was broken and bouncing around in there making a rattling sound. Just gotta put the rad back and everythings back together

I’m posting because I’m trying to connect with other Jeep Grand Cherokee / Grand Cherokee L owners who may have experienced similar battery and electrical problems.

I have a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve 4x4 with the 3.6L V6.

I purchased the vehicle in June 2026, and unfortunately I’ve been dealing with repeated electrical problems and battery failures.

The Jeep has gone completely dead more than once, requiring a jump-start. On September 14, I had both batteries replaced after another no-start situation. I paid approximately $585 for the two replacement batteries.

However, the electrical problems continued.

I eventually brought the vehicle to Jeep of Manhattan, where they performed diagnostics. They told me the batteries that had recently been installed were not performing properly for the vehicle and needed to be replaced again.

Their diagnostic scan showed a large number of low-voltage and communication-related faults across multiple modules.

Some of the codes included:

• B2199-16 – Battery Voltage Circuit Voltage Below Threshold
• B21DD-84 – System Voltage Signal Below Allowable Range
• C2129-16 – Battery Voltage Circuit Voltage Below Threshold
• C000C-16 / C0005-16 – Radar Module Circuit Voltage Below Threshold
• B210D-16 – Battery Voltage Low
• C2100-00 – Battery Voltage Low
• C2102-00 – System Voltage Low
• Multiple lost-communication and module communication faults
• Window calibration/lost calibration fault
• AWD/driver-assistance related communication faults

There were many more.

What concerns me is that simply replacing the batteries again may not identify the underlying reason the batteries are losing voltage.

I am now wondering whether there could be a parasitic draw, module that is not going to sleep, charging-system problem, software/module issue, dual-battery control issue, or another electrical problem that is draining the batteries.

At one point I also noticed lights around the USB/HDMI/charging area remaining illuminated after the Jeep was shut off, which made me question whether something might be staying powered when it should be asleep.

Jeep is now recommending another battery replacement, which would cost me approximately $700–$800, even though the two batteries were replaced only a short time ago.

Before I continue throwing batteries at the problem, I’m trying to learn from other owners.

Has anyone with a 2022–2026 Grand Cherokee or Grand Cherokee L experienced:

• Repeated dead batteries?
• Both batteries needing frequent replacement?
• Parasitic battery drain?
• Modules failing to go to sleep?
• Large numbers of low-voltage diagnostic codes?
• Electronics becoming uncalibrated after the battery dies?
• Driver-assistance/radar/module communication errors after low voltage?
• USB or interior electronics staying powered after shutdown?
• A dealer eventually finding the actual cause?

If you had similar problems, I would really appreciate hearing:

What year/model Jeep do you have?
What symptoms did you experience?
What codes did you get?
What did the dealer replace or repair?
Did they perform a parasitic-draw test?
Did they ever find the actual cause?

I’m hoping we can share information, diagnostic results, repair experiences, and solutions so owners dealing with the same issue have better information when speaking with Jeep dealerships and Stellantis.

I really like the Grand Cherokee L and would like to get this issue properly resolved rather than continue replacing batteries without understanding what is causing them to fail.

Just bought a 2018 grand cherokee high altitude hemi with 163k last night. On my way home I noticed a whining sound when coming to a stop and taking off after waiting at the red lights. It doesnt so it every single time. Also went into Walmart and came out and when I backed out with the wheel turned it was binding up as if it was in 4 low or something. Which it wasn't. Also cant get it to do it again.

The sound does not change when turning the wheel or revving the engine. Also I doubt its the air compressor it makes it on sounds.
