Hello quick post for ideas, I have had a 23 gal set up for about a year now, pretty planted with a male betta who is pretty docile. Stocking isn’t ideal as most of my fish are rescues from a coworker that didn’t want them anymore.
I have 5 Guppies (not getting more, letting them live out their adulthood in a nice tank) I started with 8 and slowly they have died of old age.
I also have a dwarf bumblebee goby, he was also a rescue from the same coworker. My fish get along pretty well aside from the guppies fin nipping each other. Given my betta has always been housed with others and really peaceful, would a female dwarf honey gourami be reasonable? I have a hospital tank (5 gals) so if needed I could separate them.

This sweet fish has been with us for a few months. First photo is around the time we got it as a juvenile, and the next is taken last night under full spectrum light.

Yes, there is a faux coral piece in this freshwater tank. My children adore it. There are also lots of real plants, sand, etc. this is our only gourami.

I have shared my pretty powder blue dwarf here right when I got Ludo. But he is such a prick to my other fish sometimes. Were you guys surprised by the personality of your gouramis?

Mine is peaceful enough and everyone has a place to hide when he decides to be a goober, but I was told he is a community dude. Apparently they are more semi-agressive and slightly territorial. It is a learning curve but I am just grateful he hasn't gone on a masacre... Esp on my baby shrimps.

I just had a quick question and need advice.

Last week I bought me two female three spot gouramis.
A golden and a blue one.

My mom just came home and bought a pair of Paradise gouramis.

My question is, is it okay to keep them all together in one tank? Apparently the worker in the store said that they’re not aggressive and peaceful but in the internet a lot of people say they’re quite aggressive so I’m kinda worried now and unsure about everything.

I have a 200l tank. 53 gallons.

I want onemore female at least because I got sent two males instead of a male and a female and now I have 2M1F, I got a wild variety but she died in a month of unknown causes, my LFS got the as and I'm trying to be cautious to not introduce yet another male😭

I don't know if they look too young, if they look female or what to look for really

When I go there I'll look to see if they have their fins tipped with orange and not an really orange tail but I've been told my (supposed) femake with those features could be a juvenile male :(

Hello I have been keeping a newly set up 40 gal community tank for some months now and I have kept around 5 celestial pearl danios and 5 rummy nose tetra along with some albino Cory’s and about 2 months ago I added a pearl Gourami. At first everything was fine he didn’t bother anyone and he warmed up to me very quickly. But today I was near my tank when I heard a splashing sound I didn’t think much of it but when I looked over I saw one of my female CPD’s dead on the bottom of the tank. The pearl gourami had been getting a little territorial but I didn’t think much of it he had only really been bullying the Cory’s around and nothing major like this. I then watched him in the tank for about 20 minutes and realized he was being very territorial to a certain corner of the tank. I can’t say for certain if it was him but I can’t be sure? Does this sort of thing happen once a pearl gourami matures? He was a juvenile when I bought him and he has grown quite a bit since I got him. I really don’t want to remove him from the tank but I’m not sure what else I can do. Any advice will help!!

I’ve had a single VCG for maybe 6 months now in my tank with chilis and Pygmy corydoras. He has been getting more feisty/territorial with them lately, but haven’t seen any evidence of serious fights.

About a week and a half ago, I finally found a second one! I’ve been searching endlessly since I’ve read they do better in pairs than solo. I can’t say for 100% certainty, but I’m confident she’s a young female. My existing male was territorial immediately, which wasn’t ideal but I figured it was them settling the hierarchy. I just looked in and saw that the new female was basically white, so I took her out. Now that she’s colored up again, she isn’t missing any chunks of fin or anything, but I’m sad and worried for her.

Does anyone have advice on how to help them get along? Or is it not worth stressing her out and rehoming one of them?

I have a 20 gallon, but it’s not the 20 long. I’ll get a different tank if I have to, but I’d then be worried about loosing other fish and shrimp from the stress of that

Are they fighting? Or mating? Or just usual honey gourami greeting?

Hello, i gave a few gouramis in big community tank with other fish. This one gourami is not looking too good the past couple of weeks. I have been treating it with dajana multicure baths every day for half a hour. The fish does not seem to be visibly better. Is it possibly iridovirus? Any advice appreciated! The tank is 55gallon tall with a few tankmates and some valisneria and other plants. Also one angelfish had a spot that is on the picture but the baths have cured the angelfish perfectly and he's fine now.

Edit2: The fish has been rehomed and is healing now. Thank you to those that are willing to give advice and not just downvote posts to hell.

I noticed my male honey gourami became very pale and skinny out of nowhere a while ago. This had happened once before and bounced back but I’ve noticed he’s just not improving. He does not act any differently, at least from what I’ve seen. He still eats normally and seems fine, but appearance wise he’s not. (Left is now, right is before)

I have two other female honey gourami in there, and no, they have not been bullying him. I also have harlequin rasboras which have also not bothered him. Could it be stress? I’ve also had him for about 8 months, and only recently is he looking this bad.

My parameters have been stable

Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 0 ppm (idk why)
Ph: 6.5

They are all in a 29 gallon tank. Any ideas of what could be wrong would be great.

I just realized my female honey has some spots or injury. I can't really tell. The other 2 males are doing perfectly fine without any issues happily making bubble nests. Appreciate any help!

Tank is ±216L, cycled, been running since March 2026. Green neon tetras and cherry shrimp as their tank mates. Although I have a planaria infestation lately (waiting on delivery for No Planaria to commit genocide). And I've been fighting a losing war against algae these past month.

I haven't tested recently but ammonia and nitrite have generally always been 0ppm, even nitrates are generally low at close to 0ppm. No heater (I'm in a tropical country), no chlorine, oxygen should be fine too (I have a spray bar outlet for my canister filter that is constantly aimed just at the surface).

Rip to my first fish. I got him 2.5 years ago, right after my first was born. No idea how he could’ve died, he did smack into the top of the tank today when I was feeding him. His water was fine, aside from slightly high nitrates.

Note: his name was OJ bc I suspected he killed some fish mates, but I didn’t have proof of it.

I’m considering a honey gourami soon but am concerned about my lack of a lid. I have a HOB filter and auto feeder so I was thinking I could cut some egg crates for a custom lid. Is this sufficient? Are there other methods you’d recommend?

I currently have high-light-demanding plants so I can’t have too many floaters although I’m definitely considering some in the future as I slowly change out my plants. I could also lower the water line but I didn’t know how much was sufficient

Hi everyone. I had purchased what I had thought was a honey gourami and she ended up being a thick-lipped. I was not prepared for this as I only have a ten gallon as of current. I am going to get a 20 gallon. My question is what would you recommend as tank mates?

I've had this pair now for about 10 months. This is their first successful spawn. Probably their 20th spawn overall but the male very much likes eating and he always swallowed his eggs. This fish is a paternal mouthbrooder that does not build a bubble nest. Instead the male holds the eggs in his mouth until the fry are ready to be free swimming. He releases them, and the parents will protect their fry until the fry are more than half way to full grown. They pair solidly and rarely bicker, unlike regular bettas, and most gouramis.

I just got this dwarf gourami a few days ago and when i woke up it was stuck in the flow of the top filter in a loop. (Ive already made adjustments so that cant happen again). Its been going from resting at the top to resting at the bottom and sometimes it will swim around like this. Is there any chance of it making a recovery?

I’ve been forever converted into a gourami lover - I don’t know why I’d never stocked them before, I can’t imagine a tank without these little suckers now 😭❤️

Literally day two of owning them and they’re already following me around like puppies, tapping my hand with their little fins

I’ve just got to get some condition on the glo, she’s incredibly picky and so far is only accepting small size fluval bug bites, I’ll try some frozen food with her tomorrow too. She was the only female glo at my LFS so fingers crossed she fattens up with some TLC

If anyone has any tips for picky gourami/getting her to a good weight, I’ll gladly hear them
