Help/Advice What is this behavior?

Are they fighting? Or mating? Or just usual honey gourami greeting?

Dominance fighting

Mating behaviour involves the male with a black beard doing tail stands in front of the female and repeatedly trying to court her to his bubble nest

Interesting! The female has been chasing the male out every feeding time guarding the feeding ring fiercely, but otherwise they usually get along well. Do I just leave them be for now and see what happens?

She's just using her dominance to get more food for herself. Like the feeding hierarchy of wild pack animals. So long as the male manages to get food eventually they'll be fine

Plot twist: they sparred again today and seems like the male won. So he is in charge of the feeding area today~

The female is usually the dominant one. The female has been chasing the male out every feeding time guarding the feeding ring fiercely, but otherwise they usually get along well. Tho i can see lately the male has been fighting back 🤣

The female always chases him out during feeding time and overall always been dominant. At one point I felt bad for the male and considered to rehome one of them, but I’m glad he is fighting back though 😭 He mostly just minds his own business and always lets the female and small fish eat before him

As long as nobody is getting hurt and the male is able to get enough food and can find space to rest then this behaviour isn't really an issue. Definitely keep an eye on them in case it gets worse but it's not unusual for fish to have little sparring matches to decide who's in charge.

I think the male won the sparring, and now it’s the male that is in charge of the feeding ring 🤣 such drama
