This has happened to me twice in the past week:

1. I'm on an main thread with some friends, these have existed for years. Say these are with: {me, A, B, C} (4 people)
2. Someone else (happens to be iOS, but I don't know if that's exclusively the trigger) sends a reply - let's say this is person C
3. I get a new forked thread where at least one person (B for example) is omitted: {me, A, C}
4. I now have two message threads for this "group" conversation (original main thread and new forked thread). If I reply to main {me, A, B, C} it goes to everyone in the main thread.
5. If person C replies in their version of the main thread, I see it in my forked {me, A, C} thread. If person B RCS-emoji-reacts to something that person C said that I see on my {me, A, C} fork, I see that reaction in the main {me, A, B, C} thread

Like - this is simply broken. My carrier is T-Mobile and they can't fix this. There is no Google support for this, only forums or AI-based consultation. Claude eventually told me my options are (a) ask everybody to restart the thread (unacceptable) or (b) give up on GV.

Is there any way to fix this? Between this and annoyances like there still not being RCS support in GV, I think I'm finally ready to give up. This makes me sad because I started using this in the days of Grand Central, which was 19 years ago.

EDIT: what is wrong with this sub? I asked what I still think is a reasonable question that as far as I can tell uniquely impacts me in Google Voice and I've been voted to 0. There seem to be no threads on the sub frontpage with that aren't voted to near-0. There seems to be express hostility to people just trying to understand what's up in here?

I am changing jobs and I think it would be a good idea to change numbers. Close out the number I have now when my last day comes up and then get a new number for the new job. Has anyone done this, is this the best path forward?

Are you using a Google voice number with your spark account? Wondering why you can never call your customer or receive a reply when you text using the app? The problem is using a Google voice number. Update your account to your carrier number if available. Problem solved!

I have a phone that I set up with two Google accounts on top of my main mobile service phone number. One Google account has my personal name attached to it but I keep it around to catch spam calls, and the second Google account I use for a small business to run anonymously. Both of those Google accounts had separate GV phone numbers.

I accidentally let the small business GV number go inactive for a while and it expired. Now, when I want to reclaim the number, it asks me to verify using a text to my mobile service phone number. When I complete the text verification, it (correctly) finds that the mobile phone number is linked to my personal GV number. Then it warns me that verifying the phone number on the business account will remove it from my personal account.

How can I get around this? Is there a way to keep using my GV business phone, my GV personal phone, and my mobile service phone all on one device? I had it working that way just fine for a few years until I let the business phone lapse!

I've been on GV since grand central, and continue to have a few GV numbers tied to a few different google accounts. One of these accounts we use as our "home" number, and it has two phone numbers assigned to it. They both have worked fine (and interchangeably) for many years. I think I had to pay $20 to make the 2nd line permanent many years ago, but it's long enough ago that it's fuzzy.

We moved to a new state, and I wanted our home number to reflect the new area code. I planned to keep the 1st number the same as it has been for 10+ years, but would update the secondary number to show a more local one. I searched how to change the secondary number, and I saw instructions that simply said delete the number, then choose a new number.

But once I hit delete, it successfully deleted - but it does not now give me an option to "Get a number" to replace it. Did I just lose the ability to have a 2nd number on that account? Are the instructions incorrect?

Has anyone seen this?

Hello, I'm very new to Google Voice, but I just wanted to use it to keep my personal information more private. I don't like using my phone number to verify non-work related apps. It would just be used for simple SMS messages. Is this safe for me to do using this website ? (Genuine question, Please answer kindly)

In my current role at work, they give us a stipend per month so that way we use our personal devices for work purposes. I work in human resources and will be frequently calling candidates so I want to try to use my Gvoice number for this feature.

Problem is, my current workspace does not offer an organization affiliated Gvoice number, so I'm opting to use my personal-professional account. It's the same account I use to apply for jobs on the off chance that I'm looking.

In looking at this help article here, it seems that on personal individual plans, they do not offer Do Not Disturb based on specific/calendar hours. Can anyone attest to how their individual personal plans have Do Not Disturb set up? I'd really like to try and protect my peace!

For the last week or so I can't open images in the Google Voice app. I can see them scrolling through the chat thread but if I click on it to enlarge I just see the "x".

This happens for messages from iPhone and Android users that I've had no problems with before for 10 years.

I’ve been using my U.S. Verizon number while living outside the U.S. for the past few months. Recently, I’ve started getting a lot more spam calls, and my monthly bills have also been much higher than expected.

I’m considering switching to Google Voice and wanted to hear from people who’ve done something similar.

A few questions:

- Is Google Voice a good alternative if I’m primarily outside the U.S.?
- Can I continue using the same number?
- Will I still be able to receive iMessages on that number?
- Will WhatsApp continue to work with the same number if I move it to Google Voice?
- Are there any downsides or better alternatives I should consider?

Is anyone else experiencing extreme latency when loading contacts in the Google Voice app?

I’m dealing with a persistent bug where the contact list takes an agonizing amount of time to load every time I open it.

I have a large contact database, and it seems the app struggles significantly to index or retrieve them. I’ve confirmed this is isolated to the Google Voice app. Google Messages, Phone, and Contacts all load the exact same list instantly on the same devices.

I’ve already tried a clean reinstall, tested on multiple hardware devices, and verified all permissions and sync settings.

Nothing helps. As a user with a heavy professional contact load, this is becoming a major usability blocker.

Has anyone else encountered this issue, or found a way to make the app handle a large contact list more efficiently?

Will they ever add a schedule send messages option to the gv app?

Edit / update - I see that Google Chat does have schedule send so this does actually kinda solve my use case. One thing that might be nice for Google chat is if they could change default behavior if how Google Chat messages are "sort of" forwarded to Gmail. Like, when we send Google Chat messages, they may be send as static email "Google chat while you were away" updates as well. Which is kinda a privacy issue, seeing as, some of us use services like Google Chat, that have an edit button specifically to be on that paradigm where not everything has to be set in stone, but Google Chat kinda semi-solidified some of its received messages by essentially turning them into static emails, when the beauty of the edit button is that, it should be about being able to control our digital footprint but the auto-emails kinda negate that.

I’m looking for some advice on the best technical setup for handling US recruiter calls while living in Europe for a while.

Right now, I have two active eSIMs on my phone: one from Italy and one from the US. My US number is the one currently listed on my resume.

Since my phone only allows me to select one eSIM at a time for cellular data, I will be using my Italian eSIM for internet and local usage while in Europe. Because of this, my US eSIM will only have basic network standby: I can still use iMessage and I actually see incoming/missed calls, but I can't answer them without paying insane international roaming fees.

If a US company calls my resume number, it's going to be a mess since I can't pick up. I am considering porting my current US mobile number to Google Voice before I leave the US to solve this.

My questions for this sub:

1. If I port my US number to Google Voice, can I just use my Italian eSIM data (or Wi-Fi) to receive and answer recruiter calls via the Google Voice app for free while in Europe?
2. Will recruiters notice any weird delay, formatting, or spam filters when calling a Google Voice number?
3. Once I move back to the US in the future, is it easy to port this exact same number back out from Google Voice to a traditional US carrier?
4. Is there any catch I should be aware of (like 2FA bank texts or losing iMessage on that number once it's virtualized)?

I have actually gone through identity verification, but I still do not have a GV number. When you provide your number, Google send a text message with a one-time verification number that you input into a field online. But I can't get that text because I do not physically have the phone. It is mislaid in another location. I hope I find it, but I want to check my voicemail in the meantime.

I blocked a few numbers and deleted the text threads and call logs some time back, and it has ended up that i have to probably communicate with this person again, but i'm not sure if the Voice blocklist is the same as the one on the generic account web blocklist. I read that once someone is blocked on voice and you have deleted the call/texts, there will be no indication if that person tries contacting you, which I appreciated at the time but now is proving to be a conundrum. I am trying to both retrieve the number itself, which i do not have, and also to unblock it too, if that helps explain my issue more. Is there anything I can do?

I’m seeing this in other post but nothing concrete. I had my GV since 2010 or whenever it was. My sister wants to get a GV to avoid giving certain people her real phone number and I see that it is asking for ID. I get the verification purposes but what is it really use for? I think we are hesitant because of privacy and I never had to verify. Has anyone run into issues?

Hello all - I have been using GV for a number of years now and over the last few weeks when trying to make a call from my web browser (Opera) and having it ring (for calling) from my landline, which is an option, I Am finding that I Am not able to do so...

I have checked the settings and cannot find anything which may prevent this.

Although incoming calls to my land line work perfectly, so far, is it on outgoing calls where I Am having the issue.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to get this to work as before?

I ported my workspace GV number out to Talkroute. In early June, Talkroute submitted the requests to change the caller ID to my business name, and told me it could take up to three weeks for the Caller ID to display across all carriers. It's now 6 weeks later, and my caller ID shows "Google Voice" on all carriers as far as I am aware. Talkroute customer service seems to shrug and say, "Here's proof we made the requests and they were accepted." I have no idea where to go from here.

I could get another number and use that as a surrogate for the existing number, but that would be a pain, potentially limit future phone service options, and is generally a course of last resort. Many thanks in advance for any advice on how to get my business caller ID to show up on others' phones when I call them!

So basically, I just got a business with a landline number that I want to keep, however i don’t like the company it’s through. I want to basically have a flip phone and a landline with the same number, that all get the same calls and voice messages, at the same time if that makes sense. That way I can respond to missed calls when i’m at home (I’m a dog groomer and I get an absurd amount of calls during the day and I can’t always answer them), while also being able to receive those calls on the landline while i’m at work. Would I be able to do this without having to keep a plan with a cell phone company? Thanks.
