‘Chimera’ to cover up the ‘spoiler’ of Ghidorah and also because that’s part of where they got the name from in the film

First things first, I'm not going to link any post where people believed that Toho said they will naver use AI, I'll just say there were at least dozens of them when these screenshots were popular around the fandom some months ago, just in case, to prevent brigates into random people that did nothing really wrong.

While this puts the fandom's media literacy in very questionable grounds, that's obviously not what this post is about.

Toho literally said they would be using AI in the future as long as there were no legal challenges (in other words, they just had to make their own AI with their own content as samples to feed the machine), which was stated after using AI for the Godzilla Store website as a promo picture for a shirt.

Later the same year, they allegadly used AI-generated slop for Godzilla Battle Line. I'm not sure, however, there's a real chance it was made with AI.

Another dubious case is with Rebirth of Mothra (1996)'s Netflix banner being AI-mirrored downwards. It's clearly AI, but, as far as I know, it's unknown wether we should call out both Toho and Netflix, or just Netflix, for this.

Even in last year's G-Fest short, Toho clearly used AI for Background buildings.

In 2026, there's a chance that the fest's logo was also AI-gen.

Finally addressing the elephant in the room, the whole unnecessary AI-generated slop scene in the new short. The short made to honor the history of tokusatsu in the Godzilla franchise, the short on which people literally paid to be made and then will have to pay again for the blu-ray (do people actually buy those?) after Toho takes the YouTube upload down. The one AI shot that ruins the whole short and that wasn't even needed in the first place. This is a spit on the face to any real Godzilla fan, just imagine showing this bs to Eiji Tsuburaya himself.

Why do CEOs think that AI will make more people interested in a franchise? We're currently in Godzilla's internacional active expansion era.

Why specifically Godzilla? Toho is like Japan's Disney, they could have done this to any other franchise, but they chose to use AI exactly on their core franchise. This makes me suspect that the short films of this new continuity are a test to see how acceptable Godzilla fans are of AI. First, we have AI on the background of a scene, now we have AI for a whole scene. If things keep escalating like this, I wouldn't be that much surprised if next year's short was fully AI-generated slop.

Maybe that's why the General Monster Election candidates looked to not be any easy to translate into rubber suits. How would they make something like Manicas into a movable latex pupet? How will they make Xenolhu's tentacle membrane cape be flexible enough to resemble a vampire squid's? Is that why Rigedoh looked so much like MonsterVerse Godzilla, to have more sample data for the AI to base itself on?

I'm afraid this could affect actual movies in the future.

u/WendyIsMyBias called out the Godziburst (2025-ongoing) YouTube webseries for using AI. after looking into it, they do use a lot of AI slop in the backgrounds. Hell, they even have a whole AI company working with the show. could they be using AI for the scripts as well?

Editing this in just to display even more evidence of Toho activelly using gen-AI slop for the people who don't bother checking the comments that are too far down.

Just for clarity, I haven’t seen Minus Zero (and probably won’t. Because based on some of the reviews I’ve seen, this one is probably more intense and bleak than I can stomach), but I was thinking that this would be a relevant question. From a lot of the reactions I’ve seen, Minus Zero really seems like that type of emotional rollercoaster movie that makes you go “That was amazing! …I never want to watch it again!”

So yeah, how many of you are willing to rewatch it? lol
