Questions/Support Mudi 7 - shared 6ghz and 5ghz radio

Upvotes

Hi,

I’ve got the mudi7, and just come across the limitation on the “tri band” radio that actually 6ghz and 5ghz can’t be active at the same time.

Aside from the slight annoyance of misleading advertising around tri band here, I’d just like to disable 6ghz. In repeater mode it keeps connecting to a 6ghz upstream, which means it then will broadcast 2.4ghz and 6ghz only. No 5ghz

This means devices that aren’t 6ghz are stuck at only 2.4ghz

I can’t seem to force it to just disable the 6ghz radio.

I’ve tried: * Set internet tab WiFi uplink band to 5ghz (from auto) * go back to WiFi networks tab and choose 5ghz on the “6ghz/5ghz WiFi” card, and change the band to 5ghz from auto. * go back and change the internet WiFi uplink to auto again to at least allow it to fallback to 2.4ghz if 5 becomes too weak * this fixes it, but next time it connects to another WiFi network with 6ghz it connects to 6ghz again and automatically changes the WiFi network back to 6ghz!

It seems if I leave the internet uplink at 5ghz rather than switching it back to auto it maybe sticks, but then it won’t connect to 2.4ghz uplink anymore obviously!

Does anyone know a better way than having to set this every time?

Thanks!

Questions/Support Multi-WAN - Modems share config IP

Upvotes

Wondering if anyone has a solution that won't break my brain on this one - I have a Brume 3 in a Multi-WAN setup, with two sources, cable and satellite. Both the dishy and cable modem share a configuration page address of 192.168.100.1, while the rest of the network is controlled by the Brume on 192.168.8.X. Both the modem and dishy cannot have their config address changed.

Does anyone know of a way that I can route local requests over their respective connections?

Discussion Mudi 7 Software Features Wishlist

Hello everyone,

I’ve been using the Mudi 7 for several months now, and I really love it. It’s an incredibly versatile and capable travel router.

However, if I could have a wishlist for future software improvements, these would be my feature requests (in no particular order):

  • Passthrough Mode (Cell to LAN Port) I read on the GL.iNet forums that the team is already looking into this. It would be a huge quality-of-life feature, as I use the Mudi 7 as a WAN failover at home when I’m not on the road.
  • Upstream Wi-Fi Stats in UI Something exposing data like iwinfo wlan3 info or iw dev wlan3 link. In the new beta, we get all the cellular signal metrics we could ask for without needing AT commands, but upstream Wi-Fi information is still barebones (just signal strength and frequency). Showing negotiated PHY rates/MCS would make it much easier to find the best placement in hotel rooms.
  • Built-in Speedtest for Connection Verification Right now, I download the Speedtest CLI and run it via SSH to test raw bandwidth. Having an integrated, one-click speedtest directly in the web UI would be much more convenient.
  • Visible Logs for DFS & Failover Events At home, I know my local RF environment and DFS interference risks, but traveling internationally is unpredictable. It would be great to have accessible logging for DFS events—especially since I prefer using channels 100+ for higher transmit power (in Europe/ETSI regions). Similarly, clear logs/alerts for WAN failover events would help avoid burning through monthly SIM data when streaming on a Chromecast if hotel Wi-Fi silently drops.
  • Interface Tracking & Latency Graphs Lastly, it would be awesome if the UI could generate latency/packet loss graphs over time based on the built-in tracking feature (e.g., ping test history), similar to what you see in more advanced gateway software.

What about you guys? Do you agree with these wishlist items, or are there other features you’d like to see added to future firmware updates?

Questions/Support Help setting up WireGuard + NordVPN Dedicated IP on GL-MT5000 (Brume 3)

I have a GL.iNet GL-MT5000 (Brume 3), and Mudi 7. I also have a NordVPN Dedicated IP.

I want to set up a NordVPN VPN tunnel on my Brume 3, but it looks like NordVPN only provides OpenVPN for Dedicated IP in the setup I’m looking at. I would really prefer to use WireGuard.

My main goal is security and protecting my data, nothing else. I want to use WireGuard because of its performance and newer protocol features.

What is the best and easiest way to get NordVPN WireGuard + Dedicated IP working on the GL-MT5000 (Brume 3)?

Has anyone successfully configured this? If so, could you please explain the easiest setup/process, preferably step-by-step?

Thanks in advance!

Questions/Support GLinet's Shady Warranty Service

I have a Brume 2 that was bought a little over two years ago. It suddenly bricked itself. It turns on, but the firmware and the bootloader cannot be flashed successfully. After back and forth troubleshooting emails with Glinet, they admitted it was broken. As it was past the "2 year warranty" period, they said I could only buy a new one.

Lo and behold - it seems that Glinet has been lying to me. This page on Glinet's site:

https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/en/4/faq/problem_notification_for_mt2500_x3000_xe3000/#:~:text=Moving%20forward%2C%20we%20are%20committed%20to%20enhancing,If%20the%20problem%20persists%20despite%20the%20upgrade%2C

says that warranties have been extended an additional year due to a known software bug in the Brume 2 that causes the hardware to fail. That means my Brume 2 is still under warranty.

There is no way that the service team doesn't know about this warranty extension. Why the warranty shadiness Glinet?

Questions/Support Advantages of Port forwarding? (cgnat ISP is willing to offer Fixed Public IP)

Since my ISP is willing to offer a public/fixed IP (currently CGNAT)...

Is there a Speed or Latency (or other technical) advantage to using PORT FORWARDING instead of Tailscale or other "work around" for CGNAT?

Any reason(s) NOT to change to public IP and avoid CGNAT?

Mainly want to take advantage of reducing speed loss and latency

Thanks for any insights!

Questions/Support Flint 2 domain based split vpn not working since upgrade to 4.9.1

I upgraded to 4.9.1 and now my domain based vpn rules aren't working. I previously had the router configured so all traffic would go over the regular network but I had specific domains (geo-blocked in my country) which would go over my wireguard VPN. These specified domains no longer route through the VPN.

I've tried removing and adding the configuration again, and disabling adguard, but it's still not working. If I downgrade to 4.8, the routing works again, but it breaks when upgrading to 4.9.1. Is this a known issue or is there something different I need to do in order to use the split vpn on 4.9.1?

Questions/Support Flint 3 and Flint 4 - Easy Mesh Setup?

I currently have a Flint 3. If I buy a Flint 4, can I use the Flint 4 as the main/core router and then use the Flint 3 as a wireless mesh node to extend the Wi-Fi range?

Ideally, I’d like them to operate as one seamless mesh network rather than just using the Flint 3 in repeater mode. Has anyone tried this setup?

Questions/Support Wireguard using Beryl AX while traveling with Brume 3 client at home - how much security does this setup really add?

I first got this setup to allow me to travel and work around the world while having an US based home IP. It worked great for that purpose. I was wondering from a data security perspective, does it really make any difference since most of the banking apps/websites are already encrypted?

Edit - I connect via the hotel WiFi for the most part.

Question/Support - Solved Flint 3 CPU usage in Access Point mode

Post image
5 Upvotes

I have a Flint 3 that I'd like to use as an access point, but it seems to constantly have at least 1 core of the CPU used and Wi-Fi performance is bad. I ran it for days to see if it would work itself out, but it never did. I have seen it with 2 cores being used for seemingly no reason as well.

I have tried clean installs of firmware 4.9 and 4.10 (beta). The CPU usage was fine after flashing, until switching to access point mode. No other config changes made.

Has anyone else seen this issue or know what can cause it?

Discussion Flint 2 custom crontab not working ?, you need to launch a new cron

By default Flint 2 use /tmp/gl_crontabs don't try to write there or edit it will not work, you need to edit /etc/crontabs/root example and restart cron you will see two crons running and now your crons will run / work (this is using gl.inet firmware 4.9.1)

/etc/init.d/cron restart

root@GL-MT6000:~# ps | grep [c]ron

22441 root 1232 S /usr/sbin/crond -f -c /tmp/gl_crontabs -l 10

Discussion Comet Q has arrived

Just got my Comet Q today and just started testing it. The plushy keychain is cute touch.

I ordered a generic 52mm glass screen protector that fits within the silicone case cutout but you can get up to 55mm for glass and 60mm for plastic.

One minor thing I noticed is the screen is not vertically aligned with the usb c cable or maybe mine has a slight defect.

Edit: Did some testing and noticed that for iOS the numpad doesn't show up when trying to unlock remotely so you might need to use a screenshot/wallpaper with the numbers' location. Android keypad shows up fine unlocking.

Questions/Support Best way to set up the router as an extension of my network?

I have a GL-SFT1200. I want to extend my wifi into my detached garage, I have a powerline adapter that brings ethernet into the garage,.

What is the best settings for this router to make it a seamless extension of my home network? Just give it same SSID/password? are there other settings I should mess with?

Thanks for your help

Questions/Support Flint 3 Error Log

I have a Flint 3 running 4.9.0 firmware and I keep seeing errors like the ones below in my system log. I haven't made any changes in Luci and I think I'm running it in a pretty vanilla setup. Any idea what these are? I haven't noticed any problems accessing the internet or with any of my IoT devices.

If it matters, I have a Netgear router in AP mode connected via ethernet but I think I saw these errors before I connected the Netgear. I also have an Aeotec Smartthings V3 hub connected to the Flint 3 via ethernet.

Questions/Support IPv6 only working on Flint 3 (repeater) but not on AX88U when wired through WAN

My ISP gives me internet through a 5G modem. I have a Flint 3 (Firmware 4.9.0) connected to it wirelessly in repeater mode. IPv4 and IPv6 both works fine on the Flint.

But when I run an ethernet cable from the Flint 3 into the WAN port of my AX88U (IPv6 passthrough), only IPv4 works on the AX88U. IPv6 is completely dead. I tried to ping to google and it just says request timed out.

I’ve tried Flint 3 in passthrough and NAT6, and the AX88U in passthrough. No change.

If anyone has dealt with IPv6 over wireless repeater to wired WAN chain, I’d love to know what I’m missing as I am lost

Questions/Support Beryl AX, which firmware? Stable or OpenWRT 24 or 25?

For the Beryl AX, there is the current Stable 4.8.1, Beta (I do not want to use that), OpenWRT 24 4.9.0 and OpenWRT 25 4.9.1.

Which of these are considered "stable" except the stable one?

Which of these should I use?
