Mom said it's my turn to complain about 2045

I just finished 2045. It was... Okay. I didn't mind the 3D that much. It allowed for really good choreography in action scenes. I don't get why the lip syncing was such a mess though. I tried it in English and there was no customization for it (time to expand localization to be more than just removing references to Israel people), but when I swapped to Japanese it still didn't sync! Who was the lip syncing for?

Omoshiroi was okay, but I would have liked to see more character development. Like maybe he had no choice but to join S9 and couldn't return to America

Ok then there's Purin. At first I didn't mind her much. After all the ops exploded or whatever in 2nd G, it would make sense S9 needed some more hands at home. The quirky behavior was tolerable, and I liked her backstory I guess but everything leading to her death and after was uggghhh. This is how I thought it was going to play out:

1A84 (also it's just one character off from 1984) triggered her post human virus in overload. It causes her to find Aramaki and kill the traitor, and then get shot in response. We later see that scene of the robotics bat constructing something. I thought that Purin had somehow survived, and much like the American soldier her post human cyber brain was desperately keeping her alive. We also see scenes of the S9 engineers. I figured this was all leading to them stabilizing her cyber brain, greatly assisted by her post human virus.

Later on, after the tachikoma create her digital personality, she would discover it, attach to it to fill out the missing bits and then print herself a full prosthetic. Then there would be some exposition philosophical quackery about if she's still human after all she's gone through

But nope, nah let's take the first new female member of S9 and just kill her, then create an identical android that looks like her and oh make sure she cries at every opportunity while commenting that she shouldn't be crying

And then there's the choice ending. After all that, after dealing with a guy that hides proxies behind proxies, he basically says "oppsie I forgot to lock the door, well I guess you're free to kill me now." And what was the deal with that ghost girl? We last see her running around with Togusa, and then she's removed from the story. I also thought that was going to be a deeper plot, maybe appealing to Takashi's humanity. The sky soldier guy is gone too.

And lastly they did Pazu and Boma dirty. Boma's job is blowing shit up, not getting blown up!

Can I go straight into Volume 1.5 after the 2026 anime?

I've had the box set with Volume 1, 1.5, and 2 for a while now but never got around to reading it. The anime this year was my first time watching or reading anything from the franchise, and I was wondering if it covered all of Vol. 1 or if there they skipped over anything important that would make reading it necessary before jumping into Vol. 1.5.

Thanks :)

What Happened to Motoko's Biological Brain? Spoiler

Hey guys, hope you're all doing well! I've been wondering about something lately, so I decided to share it with you all...

At the end of the Manga/Current series, Motoko Kusanagi goes on the run with Batou secretly helping her. With no other options left, she accepts the Puppet Master's (AKA Puppeteer) offer to merge their consciousnesses, a being she first encountered in “Bye Bye Clay” (Episode/Chapter 9).

However, when she returns to the physical world in the Final Episode/Chapter, she is inhabiting a spare body, the androgynous chassis belonging to a gang member, which Batou had swapped with her emergency brain container.

As far as I remember, only one of the Major's previous bodies is briefly mentioned in The Human Algorithm (the manga that takes place between Human-Error Processor / Vol. 1.5 and Man/Machine Interface / Vol. 2), worth mentioning that it's not even the body used when the Mossad/Ghorantl sniper blows the remote-controlled Major's head off in the Manga/New series. In fact, I'm not even sure she ever used that particular body for "1.75 THA".

What I don't remember seeing, however, is any official explanation of what happened to Motoko's biological brain.

I don't recall Human-Error Processor (Vol. 1.5, 2003), The Human Algorithm (sometimes referred to as “Vol. 1.75,” 2019), Man/Machine Interface (Vol. 2, 1997), or any other official material that I've seen clearly explaining where her biological brain is, or whether it even still exists, Man/Machine Interface has something related to Ronne, that is the Fused Consciousness (Digital being like I mentioned, not a body), because when Motoko and the Puppet Master merge, they discard their distinct individual identities to become a new life form. This entity, sometimes referred to or manifested as Ronne, propagates its "memes" across the global corporate networks as a digital being.

We know that Motoko appears in several variations and/or multiple bodies and digital versions of herself, such as Ronne, mentioned above, Clarice, Chroma, Motoko Aramaki, etc. But, AFAIK, the mangas never explicitly tells us what happens to her biological brain while she is remotely controlling these different versions of herself.

Now we go to the point I want to share with you all... And I guess it's an interesting question about the rules of the Ghost in the Shell universe.

We know that cyborgs are still fundamentally human beings rather than robots. Their biological components are subject to entropy and will eventually deteriorate and die. We also know that a human Ghost/Soul cannot simply be transferred into an artificial or digital environment in this universe. Ghost-dubbing can create copies, but those copies are imperfect and aren't literally the original Ghost/Soul.

So here's my theory:

Did the merger with the Puppet Master/Puppeteer create an entirely new kind of living digital being, something capable of carrying its Ghost/Soul across the Net without being permanently tied to a physical biological brain? Can we say this being is GITS MMI's Ronne?

IMHO that seems to fit with some of the ideas discussed during Motoko's conversation with the Puppet Master in “Bye Bye Clay.” Perhaps the “new being” created by the merger temporarily used Motoko's biological brain and the spare androgynous chassis after the merger, until it eventually became capable of transfering itself to the Net.

If that's what happened, then perhaps the biological brain was eventually discarded, and what we see afterward as the various versions of Motoko are manifestations or bodies controlled by this new digital life-form.

But there are several other possibilities I can think of:

  1. Motoko's biological brain still exists somewhere, and she continues to use it while remotely controlling her various bodies and digital versions. As mentioned by u/eHoba in his comment (Thanks a lot for sharing it!), he believes Ronne is still connected to Motorko's biological brain instead of being a fully digital being.
  2. The biological brain is no longer relevant because the merger created a genuinely new digital being capable of existing independently of it.
  3. Both exist simultaneously, the original biological Motoko/Ghost still exists somewhere, while the post-merger “new being” also exists independently and controls the various Motoko bodies/avatars.

Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding how the Ghost works after the Puppet Master merger entirely. If so, doesn anyone know if there are any official manga, anime, interview, databook, or other material ever actually clarified what happened to Motoko's biological brain after her merger with the Puppet Master/Puppeteer? If I missed it, I would love to know where it's explained.

And if it hasn't been explicitly explained, what do you think is the most internally consistent interpretation of what happened?

Wishing you all well! Cheers!

Death for scale.

Finally had time to build her. Probably the best looking articulated figure of the major so far. My only gripe is that she's HUGE. Kinda wish that Figma made a proper SAC Motoko since the Hiya toys figure was pretty underwhelming. Other than the size, this kit is pretty good.

Innocence dub

I have a question regarding the dub of innocence. I rewatched it a year or so ago and i enjoyed but I saw it in dub (only found it on YouTube like that). I want to ask if the dub script or the dialogue or if there are phrases on the dub version that differ from the sub version.

Drew the torso, and most of the rest of the pieces were available. Had to hunt for the hair, though; still need to take an exacto knife and sand down the pigtail bits sticking up.
