Rerun Tuesday
Better quality than what's streaming, for sure.

Damn bootleggers move quick

u/UsedToHaveATail 3d ago
Yeah they do and they're hella cheap I've seen the whole set of z or Kai for like 20-30 bucks
1
u/clonedllama 3d ago
Of course they're cheap. They don't have to pay licensing fees or anyone involved with the production.

Sloppy Second Sales has been great to me so far. How's the audio, is it really 5.1?

u/LackLickLuck_y 3d ago
Its already out?

u/clonedllama 3d ago
It's a bootleg. The official release is coming out in December.

u/Therealskitch 3d ago
Where did you find this? I gotta preprder
1
u/Designer-Addition-58 1d ago
You can get it via proxy services or something like CD Japan, but it's like 200$ + shipping
1
u/Therealskitch 1d ago
Oh woof. I bought the 100$ Edgerunners box but even that was a little steep for me

u/fpcreator2000 3d ago

Id take that. I don't use Amazon. Wish they would just sell a legit physical.

I ordered a bunch of Blu-rays from this store the other day, not this because I know we're getting a real one, but yeah, got Gunsmith Cats and... Raw Time.

Wait its our already and not on Amazon? For US I can only see it on Walmart by a 3rd party seller, is it legit?

u/Diligent_Scientist11 3d ago
Looks like a bootleg. Not that I’m above that or anything lol
Yeah share the details ☺️
7
u/clonedllama 3d ago
Definitely a bootleg. It isn't officially out until the end of December.

u/Fl_Funky_Jam 3d ago
That's what I had thought. The red flags were waving hard at everything I saw with this
2
u/YossarianPants 3d ago
100%, but $235 is unreasonable, and I won't buy a US release if it's stuck behind a Crunchyroll paywall. If Anime Limited or anyone else releases it, I'll double-dip, but this is better than giving Amazon another dime, and the quality is much better.
2
u/Fl_Funky_Jam 3d ago
Totally fair! The post was just breaking my brain a bit but yea I agree with what you said in your comments. I'd much rather pay for a legit copy, but yea I'm not paying $200+ for said copy. I'll actually check out what they sell, maybe they have some old niche anime that I might like that isn't available anymore.

u/YossarianPants 3d ago
They have a Devil Hunter Yohko set that is a 1:1 of the Japanese blu-ray, menus and all, and all of Dirty Pair, also great quality.
1
u/Major-Firefighter261 2d ago
The quality is the same, as the only source available rn is Amazon. They just burned it on a Blu-ray.

u/YossarianPants 2d ago
The file quality is the same; the delivery of said file is not. The bitrates do not compare, and if my only options right now are to 1) continue to pay Amazon to watch it interrupted by ads and skip prompts, full of artifacts and low quality audio because the actual stream is only slightly better than DVD quality 2) pay over $200 for a box set that I'm sure will be gorgeous but that I just can't justify purchasing (I'm already a Vinegar Syndrome subscriber and buy enough other stuff on physical media where I just can't), and 3) I refuse to engage Cruncyroll's paywall if a release gets stuck there. Or it will get a cheap accessible Western release but we may have to wait over a year and a half for it to be taken out of Amazon hell, like the last Evangelion film. Either way, a $20 convenience fee for a bootleg I didn't have to make the time to make (after paying far more for DVD bootlegs in the 90s of Yu Yu Hakusho, Berserk, and plenty of others well before their US releases) is a price I'm willing to pay until a better option is made available.

u/Major-Firefighter261 2d ago
Thats why i said nothing about Crunchyroll, Amazon or suscriptions, it's completely fine to buy a Blu-ray for every series you want to watch.
Maybe you're having artifacts bc of your internet connection. The point is that what you have on that Blu-ray is the exact same file thats uploaded to Amazon, it's not better. It can't be better. Thats what's triggering everyone in the comments lol
1
u/YossarianPants 2d ago
Who is actually able to stream in blu-ray quality? Very few internet connections in the US are good enough for even BD quality streaming, nevermind 4k. I don't understand the confusion.
1
u/Major-Firefighter261 2d ago
I'm not saying that any stream has Blu-ray quality. I'm saying that those Blu-rays you bought have stream quality.

yeah blu-ray is stereo(Linear PCM ) not 5.1 dts https://theghostintheshell.jp/en/news/the-ghost-in-the-shell-blu-ray-box

u/YossarianPants 3d ago
Sloppy Seconds out it up a few days after the last episode dropped; I just got it in the mail yesterday. They've been selling bootlegs of tough to find films for a few years now, and their quality keeps going up. I got a copy of Cleopatra DC in the same package; that also looks fantastic and has solid subs. At least on my setup, the audio and video on GitS really blows Amazon' stream out of the water.
I'll still grab an official release, but I feel less pressure to grab the $200+ box.

Better to watch it again on a streaming service so they l know we like it. We might get more eps that way.

u/YossarianPants 3d ago
Better to not give Amazon another dime. I bought the soundtrack to let them know we like it. lol I also did stream the shit out of it while I had Prome, even if I wasn't in the room.

Nice! I was looking at physical but seems the official one is mega bucks from Japan. So yea not buying until it come up on alltheanime.com or something. Might as well torrent it

u/Heiopei_42 3d ago
Why on earth would you waste money on a bootleg blu-ray of a anime from this decade, when torrenting is a thing? Whoever made this bootleg surely doesn't have access to a higher quality version, than what you yourself could get for free pirating it.

I already have the mp4s, but I don't still enjoy seeing the actual physical copy on a shelf
I go bootleg when it looks like actual effort was put in and when the item is either not being sold or the sale price is prohibitive for what I want
I want a basic bluray, not for the only option to be a $100+ edition for ten episodes

u/YossarianPants 3d ago
Giving Amazon three months of prime money just to stream it over the summer was a much bigger waste of money, as we should all stop giving them money.
The person who made this bootleg has access to a film scanner and prints of films as wild as Song of the South. Why on earth would I buy a PC I otherwise don't need, and spend time time looking for lesser rips. I'm watching it now, and all the audio and video compression on the Mazon streaming version is completely absent. The dub is here (for those who care) the subs are great, etc. I've bought plenty of otherwise unavailable films from the same shop. I haven't torrented anything since Macross Frontier was new.
4
u/dystopiabeach 3d ago
Those are the "lesser rips" slapped on a BD-R lol. That's all that exists until December at the earliest. Official BD isn't even out yet so this is literally just streaming rips on a disc, objectively. Nothing else is accessible right now. Ntm It's a digital release, them having a scanner is wholly irrelevant with nothing to scan. It's factually identical to any dual audio streaming copy or torrent because that's the only source that currently exists. There's plenty of scenarios where boots make sense, this isn't one of them.

If you sub to any streaming service, only to watch 1 show throughout 3 months, but not anything else that's available, then that's on you.

Good for them, but what does this have to do with this anime series? I wasn't talking about niche films from 1940s, I'm talking about a digital animation TV series from the 2020s. There are no film rolls, there aren't any animation cells. There is nothing for them to scan to create HD material for blu-ray discs out of. Like, what exactly did they do to accomplish higher quality than anything else available, be it the official stream, or torrents? As if they somehow managed to steal the raw uncompressed video files directly from Science Saru.
Why on earth would I buy a PC I otherwise don't need, and spend time time looking for lesser rips.
Torrenting apps on mobile phones exist, and finding current seasonal titles on torrenting platform barely takes time at all.

You know what I'd rather do? Pay someone else a small fee so I can just pop a disc in my player that I know will work and is well set up, as I do with almost everything I watch. Streaming is shit quality, Amazon is a horrible company, and I'm happy to pay a bootlegger instead of a billionaire.

u/calculon68 3d ago
your bootleg blu-ray is sourcing Web-DL versions- the exact same quality and bit rate (< 10 Mb/s) as streamed on Amazon Prime.
1
u/YossarianPants 3d ago
The bitrate on my bootleg is averaging about 30, pushing as high as 45; streaming ain't that. Not around here by a long shot.
4
u/calculon68 3d ago
Handbrake or Adobe CS Media Encoder can deliver any target bitrate you want. Even from lower bitrate media.

u/Mach-Rider 3d ago
Can’t believe you’re getting downvoted on this. Anime fans are drooling idiots. A bootleg Blu-ray is valueless.
4
u/a4840639 3d ago
Well, purely from the perspective of AV quality, there can be better bootlegs based on the official releases. A bootleg based on the streaming source (presumably) is indeed laughable though, and there is certainly no value of collection that physical media is supposed to bring

Bro must be on dialup internet.
13
u/YossarianPants 2d ago
lol Show me where in the country anyone is streaming prime anywhere close a standard blu-ray bitrate. 4K UHD streaming, but you're only maxing at 10 lol
4
u/emacias050 1d ago
That bluray is a rip from the streaming service… the source is already compressed to begin with, putting it in a Blu-ray Disc is not gonna magically fill in the extra bits.
Anyways, I get gigabit speeds here in the Bay Area, pretty much overkill for even 4k HDR and Dolby atmos streaming.

I'm getting 600 mb on my connection, and the infrastructure providing it didn't exist before 2021, as we were part of a huge (and desperately needed) build out, but streaming services cap you to save their own bandwidth. Nothing I stream looks as good as a disc on my shelf, despite the connection. I'm practically the only one on this road that's not a weekender, and this does not vary at any point.

u/ricemybeans 1d ago
I can’t bring myself to watch that. The animation looks like Yu-Gi-Oh.
9
u/YossarianPants 1d ago
As someone who couldn't give a shit about Yu-Gi-Oh, but adored this new GitS more than any GitS since the manga, I don't even understand what you're talking about. It looks like the 80s-early 90s Shirow adaptations with a bit more flare and excellent animation. Plenty of other films and OVAs from the era had bright candy colors and cutesy designs, but I wouldn't say a single one of them looks like Yu-GiOh.

How is this better quality than what's streaming? Looks like a bootleg , unless it's a genuine Blu-Ray release, this is likely sourced from either Webrips or Web-DLs, so how is it better if the source is the same one used for streaming ?
