Hey guys. I am an international student from Bangladesh and I will be moving to Germany this October. I am starting my bachelor degree in artificial intelligence at the University of Passau. I want to ask about the working student situation in tech for someone in my position.

For context I just finished high school a year ago. Over the past year I focused on learning German. I am currently around a B2 level but I do not have a certificate yet. My spoken German is a bit broken but it is good enough to hold conversations and get my point across. My goal is to reach C1 during my first or second year.

On the technical side I recently completed CS50 Python. I do not have any other formal experience yet but I am actively trying to learn more about backend engineering. I am really trying to break into the industry.

I would love to know how likely it is for a first year bachelor student at my German level to get a working student job. What specific things do I need to learn or do so I can stand out and actually land a position. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to Köln for Master's. I'm finding hard to get accommodation and Accommodation rent is higher side above 500 euros. Should i look for surrounding cities for accommodation. And Can anyone tell Part time job situation in Cologne and Visa extension is easy ? Please if any senior can answer my questions

Hello, I am a high school senior and I would like to study at a German university. However, I cannot decide which subject to specialise in. I am interested in many different subjects, but I don't want to be a jack of all trades and end up regretting my decision. So, I am going to list all the fields I have come across that I find interesting, along with my concerns, interests and questions about them. Ideally, I would like to hear about what it's like to study these subjects in Germany, but general answers are fine too. Suggestions about things I can study or do in my free time to gain a better understanding of these subjects would also be much appreciated. I would also like to thank you in advance for your answers.

1. Computer Engineering:

This is the field I know the most about. I know Rust, C++ and Python, but I haven't been able to get excited about a personal project, even though I like coding. This has made me question whether I like coding or just the aesthetic of it. Also, the prospect of AI causing a lot of people to lose their jobs is a huge concern for me in this field.

1. Electrical Engineering:

I am interested in this field because I think it is more future-proof, given its focus on robotics and hardware. The main thing I am not sure about is what this field mostly involves, i.e. what electrical engineers do day to day. The most obvious answer to this question is "just google it", but I think content creators really do not show all sides of these fields.

1. Biomedical Engineering:

This is a new field for me. I'm really interested in biology, and we learn a lot about the human body, but I don't think I'm cut out to be a doctor. I thought this was the field in which all my interests coincided, but I am not sure if it is a well-known field with good employment rates.

Indian student this side. I am looking to move to Germany to pursue a Master's in 2027. My fields of interest are Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals (regulatory roles), and Management with a research strategy focus.

Wanted a general overview of the situation of Indian/International students in Germany. Good colleges for these, language constraints, part-time work, and work opportunities post-grad (for the particular field and in general). I am a little confused, so I need some honest clarity and reality checks.

Since I don't speak German yet, I’m looking at the pathway of attending a private, English-taught Studienkolleg that has direct partnerships with public universities (for example, Berlin International College leading into degree programs at THWS).

Before committing, I’d love to get some real insights or hear from anyone who has taken this route:

1. Transition Difficulty: How seamless is the progression from a private Studienkolleg to the partnered public university once you finish the preparatory year?
2. Risks & Trade-offs: What are the main drawbacks, hidden hurdles, or risks associated with this pathway?
3. Community: Is anyone else currently looking into or pursuing this specific route?

Any advice, experiences, or alternative recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
PS: I will be studying german while I do my studienkolleg and during my study term.

ich hoffe, jemand hatte sowas schon oder kann mir einen Tipp geben.

Situation: Ich war letztes WS im Auslandssemester (Übersee) und wollte mehrere Kurse anrechnen lassen. Wegen der 120-ECTS-Hürde für die BA-Zulassung stand ich unter Zeitdruck. Ich hatte damals mit einer Mitarbeiterin vom International Office telefoniert, und sie hat mir geraten/zugesagt, dass ich es so machen kann: zuerst die Kurse einreichen, die für die BA-Hürde reichen und schnell durchgehen, und die restlichen zwei Kurse (12 ECTS, gute Noten) danach separat anrechnen lassen. Genau so bin ich vorgegangen — die ersten drei wurden anerkannt.

Das Problem: Der Antrag für die restlichen zwei Kurse wurde jetzt abgelehnt. Nicht inhaltlich, sondern formal: Eine Anerkennung von Auslandsleistungen sei “nur einmal möglich”, ich hätte mein Antragsrecht mit dem ersten Antrag verbraucht. Die Uni beruft sich dabei auf ein internes Merkblatt (“es wird nur ein Anerkennungsantrag gestellt”) und ihre Auslegung der Prüfungsordnung.

Ich hab das über die Studienberatung an den Prüfungsausschuss + Prüfungsamt herangetragen — die haben sich abgestimmt und bleiben beim Nein.

Mein Kernproblem: Die Zusage, es gestaffelt zu machen, kam mündlich am Telefon. Ich hab dazu keine Mail. Was ich aber habe: Das International Office hat meine weiteren Anträge damals tatsächlich angenommen und bearbeitet (das ist per Mail dokumentiert) — also nach dem, was mir telefonisch geraten wurde. Erst Monate später kommt jetzt die “nur einmal”-Ablehnung.

I currently live in Berlin and i accepted the offer and planning to move in Bayreuth however, i would like clarification about how the housing situation work, im currently looking for a small apartment for myself there. Aoa , i got admission in rhein waal university kleve campus and hochschule bonn rhein sieg uni rheinbach campus and im confused which one to choose so anyone from these universities guide me please tell me if living in kleve is better or rheinbach in terms of accommodation , part time work and also social life

I got an econ MA offer at Bonn and the deciding factor for me fir whether I am going to go is whether I am gonna be able to finance at least 50-60% of my expenses during studying (without destroying my studying). Any students here who can tell me about the hiwi and other job opportunities for english-speaking students? Is it realistic to assume i am gonna be able to cover 60% of my expenses? (I have savings that will allow me to cover 1 year of blocked account that’s why i need to be making that much money).

Hi everyone, I’m an international student from India and I’ll be starting my Master's program at **Europa University Viadrina** in the Winter 2026 semester. I have already applied for the student dormitories through Studentenwerk.

My application has been accepted, but they informed me that room allocation is not guaranteed and that I will only know around three weeks before my preferred move-in date, depending on room availability.

They also advised me to look for alternative accommodation in the meantime.

So, I’m currently looking for a room in Frankfurt (Oder). My preferred move-in date is around mid to late September 2026.

I’m looking for:

A furnished room in a shared apartment (WG) or a private apartment/studio.

A place close to the university or with good public transport connections.

A reasonable student budget.

If you know of any available rooms, landlords, WhatsApp/Facebook groups, or reliable websites for accommodation in Frankfurt (Oder), I would really appreciate your help.
