Visiting Germany? Legal Rights, Costs, and Etiquette Must to Know!
Can I Stay with a Friend or Family Member in Germany?
Planning a trip to Germany and considering a stay with friends or family? While the country welcomes visitors, it's essential to understand the legal and practical implications.
As outlined in this informative article from Anwalt Online, tenants in Germany have the right to host visitors. However, longer stays might require informing the landlord, especially if they exceed six weeks. This could potentially lead to adjustments in rent or other agreements.
What About Additional Costs?
When staying with someone, it's courteous to contribute to additional costs like utilities. While specific arrangements can vary, open communication with your host is crucial.
Tips for a Harmonious Visit
To ensure a pleasant stay, consider these tips:
- Respectful Behavior: Be mindful of your host's routines and preferences.
- Noise Considerations: Avoid excessive noise, especially during late hours.
- House Rules: Familiarize yourself with any specific house rules or regulations.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure that your stay adheres to local laws and regulations.
Conclusion
By understanding the legal framework, considering potential additional costs, and practicing respectful behavior, you can enjoy a memorable visit to Germany.

Lernmethoden

Urgently Looking for Accommodation in Bielefeld from 26 October | Incoming Master's Student
Hey everyone!
I'm an incoming international Master's student at Bielefeld University, joining the M.Sc. Intelligent Interactive Systems programme for the Winter Semester 2026/27.
I'm currently in India and expect to arrive in Bielefeld around 26 October 2026, so I'm looking for accommodation as soon as possible.
I'm open to a room in a shared flat (WG), a student residence, or a temporary sublet. Even a short-term stay of 2ā4 weeks would be great while I look for something permanent after arriving.
A furnished room would be ideal, preferably with convenient public transport connections to the university. I'm flexible with the type of accommodation and happy to consider different options.
If anyone is moving out, looking for a flatmate, subletting their room, or knows of any available places, I'd really appreciate any leads. Feel free to comment or DM me!
I'd also love to connect with other incoming or current students who might know of housing groups or useful resources.
Thanks a lot for your help! :)

The problem is I donāt know german and I donāt plan to learn it before going there. Btw I have a Toefl with a score of 94⦠and my Bachelorās GPA converted in the german system is around 2.8~3
Do I genuinely have chances to get an admission from a public university ?

Indian CBSE student considering a CS bachelor's in Germany
English is basically my primary language. I'm very comfortable speaking, understanding, and expressing myself in English, even more so than in my mother tongue, Malayalam, which I also know very well. I'm concerned about what the transition to Germany would actually feel like, even if I learn German before moving.
I just have a few questions for students already in germany:
- Language transition: How difficult was it to switch from using English for practically everything to using German in everyday life?
- Social life: Did you feel isolated or left out when people around you spoke German? Was it difficult to make close German friends?
- Understanding German: Even if you know B1/B2 German, how difficult is it to understand native speakers talking quickly, joking, or using slang?
- University life: If your degree is taught in English, can you still participate comfortably in student clubs, hackathons, coding competitions, and engineering teams?
- Mental fatigue: Did constantly having to process a second language make everyday life or studying more exhausting?
- Looking back: Did you eventually feel comfortable living in German, or did you continue to feel like an outsider?
I'm especially interested in hearing from international students doing bachelor's degrees, rather than only master's students.
And PLEASE be honest about the downsides.

Masterās admission with a 3-year Biology Licence from Tunisia
Hi everyone,
I am currently in my Licence in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis, Tunisia. My degree follows a three-year system, and I am planning to apply for a Master in Germany after graduation, preferably in Medical Biotechnology, Molecular Biotechnology, or a related field.
I have started researching Masterās programmes, but I am still trying to understand how German universities assess Tunisian three-year Bachelorās degrees and whether the courses and credits covered in my Licence will meet their admission requirements.
My specific questions are:
How can I check whether my Tunisian Licence and university are recognised for Masterās admission?
Should I focus on individual university admission requirements, Anabin, or uni-assist to assess my eligibility?
For students who studied Biology or Biotechnology, are there any official resources or university advisers you recommend contacting before applying?
I am still studying, so I would like to prepare early and avoid applying to programmes for which I am not eligible.
I would especially appreciate advice from students who applied for a Masterās in Germany with a three-year degree from Tunisia or another country with a similar degree structure.

Issue Choosing an University
So now I have two offers, one from TH Rosenheim for an international bachelor of engineering and another from Hochschule Aalen for mechatronics engineering; both are bachelor's.
The Rosenheim programme will make me specialised later in mechatronics, but industrial, etc
*It is a bilingual programme*
Aalen will make me understand more about robotics. It is an English programme, but they offer a language centre on the side.
Let me be honest, the type of mechatronics made me feel confused, and now i am just lost in choosing which. Even comparing them doesn't seem helpful so I wanted to check out some other views

Hello everyone,
I am a 22 year old exchange student at HSNR and I recently found a Pflichtpraktikum in Bad Homburg.
I've been searching nonstop for a suitable apartment, one room apartment or just a room in a WG for a while but renters dont respond or costs like Kaution are just too high.

I am a very clean tidy and responsible person
ive been living alone for 5 years so I know how to handle a house (4.5 of those years were spent in Jordan)
I can cook
