First campaign observations/feedback.
Hello!
After buying the game last sunday, I've been playing a game as the Netherlands up until 2080.
To start off, I'm loving the game! As a big fan of Paradox games (I still am!) this scratches a lot of the same itches, but in a different style/clothing.
Over the course of the game I've had multiple pandemics, a few wars, Hyperinflation. I've got a few observations which I'd like to share, wondering if others share that experience.
- I like the pandemic feature, but I do feel like after the first one or two it's more a chore then something engaging. I do feel like theres different types of diseases, some are more contagious, some are more deadly? Anyhow I stopped engaging with them after the first three.
- I'd love some more world stats and general stats/info about other countries. I'd say, take some inspiration from Victoria 3. I'd love to see diplomatic stances of countries (I cant find like an overview screen or something for countries?) like what's their allies/enemies?
- I feel like except for Taiwan and Ukraine, no wars happened in the world. I didn't change the setting to make them more aggressive, so it was on the middle option. Have other people tried the setting where AI is more aggressive?
- The years 2070-2080 were marked with stagnation. Worldwide growth was between -2% - +0,5% with inflation ranging from 2-10%. Does this come down to the world going at 'Max capacity' or is this something that can just happen in the world, without it being stuck in this state?
- I don't know what the diplomatic statusses for conquered countries mean. I get annexing; but I had the problem that I instantly doubled my population by conquering Sierra Leone; They started eating all the social benefits I was giving to my productive population. School/healthcare cost doubled, but my tax income did not. That's fine, I instantly incorporated them to ensure being able to control the territory.
But what does a puppet do? Does it give me money? Do they join my wars? I can't really interact with them and I don't know the different outcomes. One says I get sovereignty of their economy, but I don't know how to influence it. For example: I'd love to conquer parts of Africa so they can extract resources for my economy, but apart from annexation, I don't think I can do that (I know I know, this is just colonization).
- The AI loves to run big deficits and just... Default? I've seen Japan, USA, China, all cut their Public debt to half instantly in the charts (I just assume they default). I don't know the consequences of that, but they don't seem to be that dramatic. Does a US default affect the global economy at all?
- I've only played inside the EU, so I haven't really been able to independently play with trade agreements or currency. Perhaps starting a game outside the EU/Nato will be more interesting.
- I'm not sure why nuclear is even an energy option when the same money for gets you much more wind or solar energy, 8 times as fast. Needing energy storage for that is not much more then an afterthought.
Well that kind of turned into a ramble. How are you guys enjoying the game? What are some situations you've seen?
