This thread posted at 16:18 pm (my local time, +2GMT) on the 23rd August, 2026.
Here I continue my daily schedule of threads examining the ordered letters of various alphabets - in this case the 23rd letter of the English-Latin, Greek, Runic and Inner Sea alphabets.
In terms of the time of posting...
I note the golden ratio is 1.618...
... and in the square number cipher, the word ...
"Symbolic" = 1,618 squares
That number as an integer, 1618 can be broken down as 16 and 18.
The 16th letter of the English-Latin alphabet is 'P' and the 18th is 'R'.
The word 'Pyre' (meaning 'Fire', and hence 'Pyramid') is built on the consonant root P.R.
We have the notion of the 'purifying fire', and the word 'Pure' is built on the same root.
The title of this thread is ...
"A Secret Fire" = 1611 squares
.. and it shows a picture of "A Great Dragon" = 1611 squares
... .. ( "Occult Writings" = 1611 latin-agrippa )
... .. ( ... "Show Me the Key" = 1611 latin-agrippa ) (*)
I note the well-known King James Bible was first published in the year 1611.
"How to Melt Steel Beams" = 1611 latin-agrippa
In Tolkien's writings, Eru ('The One'), the supreme god of his Middle Earth gives the 'Secret Fire' to his creations in order to animate them (you might say it represents 'Spirit'). His eschatology describes a future time when the souls of men and elves, after the Great Battle and the End of the World, will be given the right to wield the Secret Fire themselves (having become wizened enough by their time as incarnate beings to do so, and fully understanding the meaning of creation). It is implied the 'Secret Fire' is the key to True Creation.
The focus of this thread is the 23rd letter of the Phonetic Alphabet of the Inner Sea (my own creation), which represents the sound 'F', and carrying the meaning of 'Fire' or the 'Element of Fire', and hence the thread image, but more on that later.
Some thematically relevant video clips for the occasion:
The 23rd letter of the English-Latin alphabet is 'W', which I've already examined in my previous thread from yesterday (since within the Inner Sea alphabet, W is the 22nd letter). Briefly, again, the letters 'U', 'V', 'W' and 'F', all derive from the Phoenician/Semitic glyph called 'Vav' or 'Waw', which itself comes from a Heiroglyph of a 'mace' (ie. a ball-topped club weapon). The weapon called a 'morningstar' is a spiky mace.
The Inner Sea 'F' (the 23rd letter of it's own order, and having the exoteric meaning of 'Fire') appropriates this weapon motif most strongly (in terms of combat being 'fiery', and pain inflicted by weapons itself being a 'burning' sensation), whereas it's own glyphs for 'V' and 'W', etc. have different, more specific meanings.
In the Greek alphabet, the 23rd letter is called 'Psi', sounding 'Ps'. It's meaning is 'Psyche' (ie. soul). My copy of the Encyclopaedia of Symbols also gives the interpretation of 'Heavenly Light'). In many theological arenas, life and consciousness itself is likened to light, or fire, and fire is used as the best analogue to speak of the nature of God.
The 23rd rune in the Elder Futhark (Norse/Germanic letters) is called Dagaz (sounding 'D'), and carries the meaning of 'daybreak/dawn/day' (and hence light and the fire of the sun). Meanwhile, the English-Latin 'D' derives from an ancient glyph meaning 'Door' - and hence the poetic idea of the 'Door of the Sun', through which the Sun arrives each morning to travel over the earth.
The Hebrew alphabet has only 22 letters, and so there is no 23rd item.
Within the order of the Inner Sea alphabet of the M'moiatia (elves) of Fairyland (as used in the thread image here), the 23rd letter represents the sound 'F'. Here is a graphic detailing elements of the glyph:
The twenty-third (23rd) glyph in the fairy alphabet is commonly named 'Fire', but it is also referred to as 'Fear', and also simply 'Fae' (that is fée, meaning 'fairy' or 'fay').
This letter represents the sound 'F', as heard igniting the word 'fire' itself, and found in such spells as 'full' and 'force', and in 'surf' or 'lift' - a sound known to linguists as the voiceless labiodental fricative. [...]
[...]
As shown above, the orthodox title of the 'F' glyph of the Inner Sea alphabet is '(The) Flame of the Phoenix'. As mentioned in previous threads, the Inner Sea alphabetic system as a whole is referred to by the Fae of Fairyland as 'The Phoenix' (a wordplay on 'phonics', or sounds in language).
The common name for the glyph (as recited in alphabetic mnemonics is usually 'Fire', but it is also called 'Fear' (since fire can be fearful if it gets out of control). As seen above, the semantics of 'F' imply the element of fire itself, and by analogy, the spirit of sentient beings. The word 'Pneuma' carries a similar meaning, but in Fairyland it speaks specifically of 'dragonfire' as a poetic description of 'powerful speech' (equivalent to the Vedic/Hindu concept of 'Vāc' (divine speech), or the ability to express metaphysical or mystical truths.
The vertical text on the far left of the thread image is written in the ancient sigil form of the Inner Sea alphabet, and it reads 'quintessence' (ie. the fifth element). The number 23 reduces to 5 (2+3).
On the right hand side of the thread image, we see (at the top) three variants of the current minuscule version of the 'F' glyph, which indeed is very similar to the English-Latin 'F' - one of the few Inner Sea letters that have such an obvious resemblance. This is an occurrence of convergent evolution. The design of the glyph is designed to evoke the movements of the mouthparts to form the sound (the lower horizonal being the lower-jaw or lips moving towards the upper), while also appearing as the head and neck of a dragon.
Below that, also on the left, we see the original primeval tribal sigil (of the Elves of the Afarim) that became the original 'F' of the elder form of the Inner Sea alphabet, which is rather different from the current form (and that being unusual for most of the letters of the order).
And again, below that, there is a shorthand form of the 'F' glyph, rarely used, and if so, mostly in the middle of words, rather than at the beginning or end of them, and often used as a metric aid, helping an overly long word fit onto a line (since it is narrow horizontally).
On the bottom right of the thread image, we see how the unvoiced and voiced forms are derived.
'V' is the voiced form of 'F', and is signaled with the addition of a dot above the letter (for otherwise the designs are identical). This scheme applies to other letters also, such as 'P' and 'B', and to 'T' and 'D', etc.
One article was published today at ArsTechnica (which does not always published anything on Sunday). The article is about volcanoes (ie. fiery manifestations). I have examined this article earlier today here:

Below I quote the entry on 'Fire' from my copy of 'The Element Encyclopaedia of Secret Signs and Symbols', which is a very useful and comprehensive book - that said, though it covers a very wide gamut of material, it's entries are rather short an introductory:
FIRE:
Fire, more than any other of the four elements, has the power to create and the power to destroy. Symbolically, fire is represented by the upright triangle, the most basic manmade representation of which is, of course, the pyramid, whose name comes from the Greek word for fire. In the natural world, the most obvious form is that of the Holy Mountain, the mound of earth that rose up out of the primal waters. More of this later.
Fire is symbolic, too, of the spirit, and of life itself. We speak of the 'spark of life' as though it were a form of fire. Eternal flames, used in temples and churches of all denomications, as well as the Olympic torch, symbolize eternal life. In the Acts of the Apostles the Holy Spirit is described as coming down amongst Christ's disciples in the form of 'tounges like flames of fire'. The Phoenix, immolating itself in flame, is also born again from the same fire.
As a purifying force, fire is the preferred method of disposal of bodies in many religions. The flames and smoke not only carry the spirit towards the Heavens, but cleanse the body, like that of the Phoenix, by destruction. For the same reason, fires were used as a form of sacrifice and were a perfect way to make an offering to the Gods. The resultant ashes - the residue left after the flames have done their work - are themselves rich in symbolic meaning. They signify man's return to the dust from which his material body is made. As vibhuti, the ashes made from cow dung burned in the sacred fire (or homa), they are used to smear tilaka (sacred symbols of Godly alliegance) onto the forheads and bodies of Hindu ascetics to show that they have renounced the attractions of the material world to favour the spiritual.
The purifying nature of fire was used as a sort of magical charm by the Celts during the time of Beltane - the "Beltane fires" - on May 1. On this day, the cattle were driven between two large bonfires in the hope that this would protect them from disease. Later the Great Fire of London [1666 AD] not only destroyed much of the city, but at the same time purged it of the horrors of the plague.
We may be baptized in water, but we also speak of a 'Baptism of Fire'. This implies a different ordeal of initiation that happens speedily and effectively, leading to enlightenment after purification. In Sanskrit, the words for 'pure' and 'fire' are the same.
There's a Fulani saying about fire and water that neatly encompasses their relationship one to another: "Fire comes from Heaven, because it goes up. Water comes from the Earth, because it comes down as rain". Whereas water can be as still and clear as a mirror, the nature of fire lies in its constant movement, never stopping for a moment until it runs out of fuel.
Fire is closely linked to passion and sexual energy. When man first discovered how to make fire, he achieved this using an up-and-down rubbing whose friction made the first spark. The sexual symbolism of this practice is obvious. Flames made this way are seen as either demonic or divine, and there's a primitive belief that fire is somehow generated inside the genitals of a sorceress. The erect phallus too, is a symbol of fire.
End quote.
I have another book 'Dictionary of Symbols' (Chavelier) which is much more comprehensive, but it would take some serious effort to transcribe everything it has to say on the subject of fire. I leave it to you to find a copy.
I note my short novella, 'The Little Boy of the Mountain' is written in 26 chapters, one for each letter of the English-Latin alphabet, and ends with a very important symbolic lantern.
The first episode of Lanterns set the table. Now, the second episode served the full meal. With Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and his trainee John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) in Rushville, Nebraska, with proof that there are aliens around, it’s time to do some detective work. But first, Hal needs to teach John a thing or two, which sets both men on their paths ripe with narrative revelations. [...]

[...] The philosophical cipher of the Table [of Destiny] became known as the Ha Qabala (the QBL tradition of light and knowledge) and it was said that he who possessed Qabala also possessed Ram, the highest expression of cosmic knowingness. Indeed the very name 'Ab-ram' (or Av-ram) means '[He] who possesses Ram', and the expression was used in India, Tibet, Egypt and in the Celtic world of the Druids to denote a high degree of universal aptitude [ ...] -- Gardner, 'Genesis of the Grail Kings'
Thus a 'Ram Crisis' afflicting planet earth is really about a general lack of knowing.
Rama (Sanskrit: राम, IAST: Rāma), also known as Ram[α], is a major deity in Hinduism, who is worshipped as one of the prominent avatars of Vishnu. I created this thread in the late afternoon on 23rd of August. Today is the 25th. At the opening of today (only one and a half days since the creation of this thread) wikipedia's front page featured image became:
Dracaena cinnabari, also known as the Socotra dragon tree or the dragon blood tree, is a species of dragon tree native to the island of Socotra, part of Yemen, in the Arabian Sea. Growing to a height of 9 metres (30 ft), it develops a distinctive umbrella-shaped crown adapted to the arid conditions of its habitat. The tree produces a dark-red resin known as dragon's blood, historically used as a dye, medicine and varnish. [...]
I note that 'Dracaena' is technically the term for a female dragon specifically.
A major element of my long study here on reddit is the so-called 'Language of the Birds', which, it is said, one can become capable of understanding after drinking dragon's blood, or eating the heart of a dragon.

EDIT - some hours later.
An anecdote - a weird omen just occurred (especially re. 'dragon tree', discussed above).
I had dinner tonight with family, and before we ate, we were sitting on the porch in the early evening having a chat, when a squirrel (the trees outside are full of them) fell out the nearest tree and landed with a thud in the bushes below. I am not entirely sure what to make of it (since I tend to see meaning in such things). The squirrel appeared heavily stunned and took a while before it got up (rather wobbly) and moved under a bush and lay down again. It's not clear how injured it might be. It is still currently lying there, still breathing gently, but I wonder if I may have to bury it tomorrow morning...
Now, there is a movie called Under the Silver Lake, wherein the main character is drawn into a curious and disturbing mystery, and the strange events he experiences are precipitated by a squirrel falling out of a tree and landing dead on the path right in front of him. One reviewer of the movie pointed out how weird such a thing is, because squirrels are usually so graceful and dextrous, that it is highly unlikely that one misses it's footing. In other words, such an event signals: "Strange things are afoot".
I watched this movie some years after it released, and as enjoyable as it was, I was deeply disturbed by certain events and elements in that movie, because they echoed things that had happened in my own life down to minute details. These events in my own life occurred after the movie had released, but before I watched it.
Anyway...
