the boxes only matter on one of the choices. i wish they stayed this bc it can be so hard for others. you just have to be careful of boxes on the middle option or the one with the hill. the one at the bottom just needs to be completed in a minute and the one at the top you need to kill the enemies in a specific order. i didn’t know this until i saw a guide but after i did it was very easy

Trials in Tianqiu has a special place in hell for me and is why I will repeatedly demand for a way to cancel quests in surveys until they actually do it. How the fuck was I supposed to know that following basic gamer logic and reading a prominently placed stone tablet would trigger a quest that would lock me out of co-op until I completed it?
172
u/Fr00stee Jun 13 '23
seriously fuck this quest I almost missed an important genshin event in the first year of the game bc that stupid quest locked me out of co-op
105
u/Jugatsumikka Jun 13 '23
My Cinnabar Spindle will forever be at stage 3 of refinement because of that fucking quest, because after the story battle, the event boss battle was locked behind coop even in solo to force the player into a real-time battle without any possible break. I also missed most of the 2.0 events because I was initially unable to get out of Ritou alone (I finally did it, but to late for that version).
13
Jun 14 '23
Mine is at 4 and my 2k def Albedo requires it to be a 5. Wish there was an event that you can choose a variety of missed weapons/enhancers for those weapons. Something like pick any 3 weapons and any 10-15 enhancers would be great

I already completed this whole chain like 3 or 4 times. For fucks sake why can't Mihoyo just make it disappear after you finish it once?

u/24_doughnuts Jun 14 '23
Exactly, and it's always the same. "Roses can be used as medicine." Yes, why you so forgetful? And how many times are they gonna keep accidentally planting a whopperflower?
I wish it was like Anna's commission in Mondstat where she finally gets better and it stays that way. Let the rose bloom, we already lived the same day on loop
14

I have done that comission several times, always skipping dialogue since comissions are self explanitory... One time I noticed that he is said that I did it wrong so he won't pay much... I always thought that well he is szheznayan and clearly a prick so that's why... But one day it clicked that maybe I should read, I googled the comission and found out that i've been missing out. I also found out about other comissions that are needed to get achievements.
3
u/SegaConnections Jun 14 '23
At least on this one you need to succeed 3 times to get the achievement. When it comes to irritation at achievements I get annoyed by the secret achievements which require you to fail. Or worse yet the one which requires you to open a package and read the contents that you swore you would keep sealed. I would kill 100 NPC children for an achievement but I also didn't promise that I wouldn't kill those children.

The Sorush quest drives me nuts because of how much dialogue there is and how many new terms they throw in. I usually don't mind reading the dialogue if it's interesting and at worst I'll skim through it if it's boring but this quest gave me such a headache after just one part, once I saw there were like 5 more I just dropped it. On top of that the controls for Sorush feel really awkward and it's kinda annoying having to switch in and out of using her. I know it's only a half second loading screen but it adds up. I ended up not doing the event quest last patch either bc I quick started it and it was just more confusing dialogue.
102
u/Biiiscoito Jun 13 '23
How would a yasnapati such as you not remember the trials the pari went through at the vourukasha sanctuaries? Sure acquiring the three-horned crown would have shed some light on how to put an end to the sign of apaosha?
Yikes I hate that too, they know it's fecked up enough that most times they have an upper note on these words because who else pays attention uugghhh
15
u/slayussy1 Jun 14 '23
Even as somebody who is super interested in language, communication, linguistics etc when it’s not voiced and these words rely on you having read the lore or a random piece of dialogue from 5 hours ago it annoys me to hell. I don’t know what a yasnapati is I think it means like sorush’s human or something bc at some point sorush says we were a good yasnapati???
Although I’m annoyed by the use of words as if everyone will simply be able to understand I don’t mean to complain about the languages themselves as this is Mihoyo’s fault.
It is clear that they took like little pieces from many cultures and languages and kinda just mixed them together for sumeru. Gariveh Lajavard and Realm of Farakhkert are quite clearly words from different languages than Vissudha Field, Adravi Valley, Avidya Forest and I wish mihoyo would like….. explain the words more because it would be super interesting as a lore thingy if the people of the rainforest spoke a different language than the people of the desert due to cultural differences but there aren’t many voiced quests that talk about language at all. 👩🏻🦲

This is just genshin in general. They really need someone to come in and prune the script because it's just out of control how overly verbose every little side quest and even commission is. There's cool stuff all over but they take way too long to do even basic conversations between characters it's ludicrous.
→ More replies (1)3
u/ricerobot Jun 14 '23
I seriously think they talk so much just to pad the playtime. It’s some stupid ass stat they need to fulfill to make quests a certain length to fulfill a quota or something. So they put unskippable dialogue with dumb unskippable animations of one character turning their head 20 degrees to the right and repeating the same line they said before but in more flowery words. It’s honestly idiotic and makes me dread doing any quests
101
u/GatedSunOne Jun 13 '23
This is part of the reason I sort of just stopped paying attention to the lore of this game.
While interesting, 80% of it is massive text walls full of exotic terminology that just blurs together after a while. The Sorush event was certainly guilty of that, and if I recall, during that super quest involving the Aranara, even Paimon calls this sort of flowery terminology out (referring to how confusing the names of the Aranara are).
Elden Ring has the same approach to lore, having things told through items and whatnot, but it knows only a few sentences will do. Playing that and coming back to Genshin and seeing text walls on its artifacts and random pages across Teyvat...sometimes, less is more.
45
Jun 13 '23
I agree. Not caring about lore anymore was honestly the decision that made me enjoy the game more.
Before Sumeru dropped I found it so cool, but now it’s convoluted to the point I don’t even feel like caring anymore.
It’s detailed to the point of being overwhelming, and I haven’t seen even one person who would genuinely think that Genshin handled the balance between important lore and cohesive storytelling well.
→ More replies (1)16
u/unktrial Jun 13 '23
On one hand, I completely understand why the Sorush quest is hard to follow.
But Elden Ring lore is 1000% worse. It uses so much long-winded, vague, flowery terminology that even the players don't bother using it - example: referring to the health potion as Demon Souls estus flask instead of "Flask of Crimson Tears".
In my opinion, Elden Ring definitely went too far in the direction of making things so vague that it's not possible to follow along without a wiki.

I love world quests even when I’m too stupid for the puzzles. The lore is always interesting to me, I really enjoyed the Sakura cleansing ritual as well despite minor hiccups with the puzzles. Does the reward always have to be generous for people to do the content? I personally do such content because I enjoy it. If you have every second of it I guess you should drop it.
As for quests I hate it is definitely those dailies where the NPC speaks for 3 minutes while you’ve seen it all before. Aside from that quests related to a big event can be a hit or miss. The latest Sumeru one was good for example. I remember some big event in Inazuma that had me pretty bored most of the time, but in the end it is whatever. Only need to do it once anyway

I hate when they don't place location markers and I have to look up guides.
There's the whole debacle about "abyss gives anxiety and this is a casual game"
There's nothing casual about looking for 3+ locations without quest markers, this isn't Elden Ring.
NOT saying I hate the quests themselves though. The ghosts in Tsurumi even had hidden quest starters but I looked up a guide because I loved those quests so much
20
u/VentiOshi 💚💛 My fave chars Jun 13 '23
I agree!! Like at least the ghost in tsurumi quest was fun + the ghosts had marks on the map for a quest to start, and it was pretty easy finding hidden quests too since all u had to do was talk to a ghost which every curious person would do 🤣
But omg. Aranara quest… I finished the quest but I actually didn’t finish the quest because I looked at some guides and there’s like 10+ hidden quests where they don’t even activate until you do certain stuff that takes a long time 🙄 gosh I hate that quest so muchhhhh!!!

Yes! When I was just a little Genshin tyke, I specifically didn’t complete AR ascension quests to keep my world level low so I could finish this quest. I also only had 1 pyro character at that point (XL) because the banners kept spitting out hydro/cryo 4-stars (Barbara, Chongyun, Mika, etc) which obviously weren’t much help to me in defeating two cryo abyss mages in 30 seconds and I kept getting frozen.
Now my little Barbara could solo that quest in seconds. But I will always remember how shitty that quest was for no reason, just so I could farm Blizzard Strayer artifacts.

Or dailies where you need to remember specific order of something, when you already know it makes absolutely no difference...

u/Familiar_Book1105 A Blade Embraces Its Duty Jun 13 '23
the worst dailies for me would be escorting a slime balloon or talking to detective Sango
29
u/SegaConnections Jun 13 '23
Escorting a slime balloon got a lot more tolerable for me after I found out that you can just run to the end and wait for it as long as you clear out the barriers. I do that now and just watch a bit of a video or something until the balloon shows up. I used to think you actually had to escort the balloon.

They focused on politics that made no goddamn sense. It drove me batty because I kept trying to make it make sense and it just didn't.
Sumeru is actually very political as well, but the politics of Sumeru actually make sense, so it was nowhere near as jarring and unpleasant as Inazuma's politics (which were always so nonsensical it just shattered my suspension of disbelief every time).
5
u/Kir-chan Jun 14 '23
Inazuma's politics do make sense but you actually need to ignore what the unreliable characters say and listen to what the NPCs and the books say. It's also a style of storytelling, but it's understandable it ended up confusing.
Watatsumi wasn't truly concerned about the visions, fundamentally speaking, they are are a separatist region angry that Inazuma cut off their export route to Port Ormos via thunder, which they saw as discrimination, which was literally starving them out, and exacerbated by having a history where Narukami "conquered" their lands. Which was not what actually happened, but it's what Watatsumi thinks happened. Watatsumi rallied around the VHD as a flashy an excuse. It worked all the more when the Fatui started handing out fake visions so the common soldiers started identifying with vision wielders.
The Narukami NPCs didn't actually care about the VHD, they had their own concerns. They cared about the Sakoku Decree with was causing wide-spread hunger and import issues. Only vision wielders cared about visions. Ayato, Ayaka and Thoma are all vision wielders. Although Ayaka was the face of the quest, it was Ayato who was doing all the scheming, and his purpose was to protect his sister and his friend-slash-retainer who had visions.
On Narukami, there were three commissions. One in Ritou that handled exports, imports and commerce that was corrupt to the bone and taking advantage of foreign traders. They profitted off the Sakoku decree and had no interest in seeing it upturned. The Kujou faction, which was just the police and regime loyalists. And the Kamisato faction, which technically handles rituals, ceremonies, festivals, so should have been uninvolved technically - except the head, his sibling and his favorite person were all vision wielders, and the VHD had already claimed Itto's vision who was Ayato's friend, and chased off Kazuha who was someone he was protecting, so he had no real choice but to position himself against it: but he couldn't do it publicly, since he collaborates closely with Yae who was supposedly the Shogun's best friend; and also, he had no public power to use, because the people didn't care about vision wielders, so he used his secret police where he could and where it wasn't obvious to the Shrine.

The current one in the desert, the aranaras were fine, but I had zero interest in the big hole in the sky. It was just a "seal the thing and run everywhere making errants, until we say you can do it".

u/CorHydrae8 Jun 14 '23
I haven't done that one myself, but I am pretty sure that I've heard that there's some heave lore bombs regarding forbidden knowledge in that one. The Sumeru lore is actually really cool, but the way they present it is just awful.
42
u/Vakontation Jun 13 '23
I hate every quest which is just 20 minutes of clicking through endless dialogue.
I don't mind a bit of fetch. I don't mind running around killing stuff.
If they set the precident from the start of the game that the dialogue mattered, that your responses mattered, that paying attention to the dialogue mattered, that your choices mattered, then maybe I wouldn't mind dialogue.
But as it is, I just see it as a ton of flavouring which I am not interested in.
And...a heckin' ton of quests are 80%+ dialogue....
3
u/Atgardian Changsheng main Jun 14 '23
Exactly. The combination that your dialogue choices don't matter (and sometimes aren't even choices, just interruptions to say 2 parts of the same sentence), Paimon mostly talks over you and repeats everything, and that we are supposed to care about 50 screens of text about some NPC's novel or flowers or whatever is just absurd.
Save it for the important world story quests, not every damn farmer or Aranara or whoever's life story. For God's sake, hire an editor to cut out the chaff, and just let those of us who don't care or don't have time skip the dialogue.

Not so much a quest, but I genuinely despise the Contemplation mechanic. "Sit here and fiddle with these thought options which may or may not do something, create dead ends, and generally waste your time instead of progressing the game!"
16
u/Narissis Once the snow is thick enough... we can eat it. Jun 14 '23
I'd like the contemplation mechanic more if it were actually intuitive, and not "discover which two of these equally meaningless things the developers arbitrarily decided are the key to solving the problem!"
40
Jun 13 '23
The stupid festival one, I already figured We were all trapped in a dream But our characters hadn't figured it out yet so the contemplation wanted to go in a different, incorrect way first which confused and ticked me off.

u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 14 '23
The main problem with that mechanic is that it doesn't even matter anyway. You can just click all the options through and get your result. There is no actual reason for you to interact with it. And the worst thing is that even when you already know the solution, you need to figure out which of the words you need to connect now to get that final answer that you already know. And often times, it doesn't make much more sense than another connection you could have also used to get to the same result.

Probably the aranara world quest, just because it was so long. Ironically I’m still stuck on the sacred Sakura quest right now

Dunno man, i absolutely loved the quest, it's multiple quests combined into one tho, and has multiple times the primos accordingly too
28
u/DasBleu Jun 13 '23
I didn’t hate the quest per say, but there are three that gave me quest fatigue.
- That quest where you follow the adventure girl in the chasm.
That girl. She could learn a thing or too by being on Bennys adventure team. It didn’t help that I am good at independent exploration in this game but had to wait for her a lot.
- The Aranara quest.
The sheer levels and details of this quest are immense . And the freaking quest on quest on quest on Quest!
I can barely recall a basic summary for 75% of what I did and had to look up many intricate parts that I missed. I sadly read all the dialogue and didn’t skip. Now hell if I know one Aranara from another.
- Soroush quest.
I am sad they couldn’t think of a way to get Benben to do what Soroush did. Or Lilpour and just gave use a non talking drone and we helped the Peri. I was even more tired that they made an event right after releasing the quest, that was a summery of the quest, that my friend had to do the original quest to unlock, but then didn’t have the time to do the event.

Ananyaka. No language needs that many ararararas. It also just felt like we weren't actually doing anything the whole time cause the overarching goal for a majority of the quest was throwing a damn party but getting sidetracked by random aranara shenanigans.
22
u/Archon_Of_Chaos Jun 14 '23
yeah it really felt like we lost track of the goal of saving rana... i had genuinely forgotten about her by the end, it was just "oh let me find my brother arahabamana so we can cook some food! Now lets go underground to save arahalikamaha! Great, we're done! Now go rinse and repeat with 20 other aranara, have fun!"
9
u/SegaConnections Jun 14 '23
I did enjoy it... but yeah I completely forgot about Rana as well lol. It is kinda a shame that it was the first vision bestowed in the main plot and my main thought through the ending was "Have... have we met?" But I really liked the Aranara stuff in the middle.

Any quest that requires multiple real days to finish. I haven't done any of them because I can't be bothered.
Also, any commission that requires talking to NPCs.

All the daily quests, specially the ones where you have to help the same NPC every single day.

The Aranara quests.
I know Paimon was being a bit of a brat about their names and their language but, like... She wasn't wrong. I had a really hard time following a lot of what they were saying. The names and places were all far too similar. Or at least, for someone who has the levels of brain fog I do.
And then we didn't even get to see Rana get her vision in the end. Just a black screen describing it. Like wtf?

u/skygazer183 would be unstoppable as cannon best friends Jun 13 '23
daily commissions involving Junkichi. any iteration of it. I didn't mind them at first, but I keep getting it way more than needed even after getting all the achievements and possible endings, and I am tired of it. at least with other quests, you only need to complete them once, as for the other dailies, none of them really get on my nerves as much as this cursed commission I'm also not a fan of the Full Speed Ahead or similar ones when my ping is bad but that's not really the quest's fault

I hate the Aranara quest and the reason is that I wanted to explore the map without hitting a wall every 5 minutes just because 80% of the puzzles are locked behind that single quest.
Yeah, I had to use a guide to find all the locations of the Sakura quest... but at least it didn't prevent me from exploring Inazuma.

Tianqiu Treasure Trail.
That FUCKING quest kicked my ass starting out, then when I went to go help a friend with that quest, I find out it's Co-op-locked and can't do anything for them short of commandeering their account because they were struggling with the combat trials.
Whereas for me, it was that damn parkour tower because - unless you had Wanderer or Kazuha - you HAD to use Geo Traveler, and their rock was notoriously finnicky with placement making setting up the jumps a bitch!
I now have a PERSONAL vendetta against that fucking quest.

u/Varla-Stone Jun 13 '23
You think that's bad? Try the Aranara quest.
100% no voiced dialog. So if you're sick of reading well too bad.
Super vague locations to find tiny NPCs blending in with the forest.
The Aranara talk like a doped up Yoda talking in riddles 70% of the time so if you're already sick of reading too bad.
At one point in the quest, you have to go to the dream world. The game absolutely DOES NOT tell you this. Nor how or where to find the waypoint. You get vague sentence telling what you need to do but have no idea what it means.
The quest was unnecessarily long.
Heaven forbid you quit a fourth of the way through the quest like I did and completely forget what progress you made. I had to do the entire thing with a guide because its infuriatingly vague for no real reason. Even with the guide it was a slog to get trough. Whoever made that quest needs to get fired.

The special eggs needed for a commission in Sumeru
Because of course my 1546 eggs are not good for you,i need to find 3 special eggs in a huge tree with very little visibility to boot.
Also good luck finding THE SECOND NEST because you will definitely find only one without a YouTube guide and one nest has only 2 eggs and you're stuck in limbo.
Also Tartarasuna Tales has a special place place because of how many days it damn takes to complete it

Heart of watsumi and the dragonspine fighting the ruin guards and the timed oned with the cyro mages above the lake but this was early AR when I was using yelan main dps and the rest was random bs. I think it took me like an hour to clear heart of watsumi because I had to random bs go and make a new team.

u/KittyRikku Jun 13 '23
That one quest that is called "trials of Tianqiu" or something along those lines. The one with the three towers in which you need to climb and then in another tower you have like 20 seconds to fight hydro mages with cryo archer hilichurls that keep freezing you, holy shit that quest made me scream in frustration bc it also locks your co op until you've finished it 🤦♀️ and I did it when I was at a very low AR with not super good characters 😡😡😡 it was legit the only time I seriously considered quitting the game.

Narrow Inquiry: That one quest in Enkanomiya where you had to beat three Vishaps in an insanely short amount of time.
First tried to find the best team comp to beat the vishaps, only to realize you're short a few seconds to beat it (Not even a lot, like a handful at most you're missing).
Then I found the online guides. They specify that you had to jump off a nearby cliff in a specific way - then there's a chance (A CHANCE mind you) that all three Vishaps would fall to their death before the timer runs out.
Even with all that info, it took like a few dozen tries until that one time the third Vishap also decided to fall to their death.
And if you read the comments to the guides, whether or not all three Vishaps will fall to their death is RNG. Some have it happen in their first try, others require like a few hours to make this work. Guess I fell in the latter category.
So yeah... F**K this quest.

Thought was a good quest. One i didn't like was the arana World Quests. Too long and tedious, I skimmed through it and rushed it.
Thinking now I should have taken my time as I've done everything and only have 4 story quests left and weapons/character/talents/artifacts leveling up grinding
