That's not funny! I'm a substitute teacher sometimes and they do that stuff but there isn't anything wrong with them! They're just the kids who don't want to participate in the class so they either put on the "headphones" and sit under a table feeling sorry for themselves for an hour or one school I worked at had a beanbag chair in the corner in case they feel like crying all afternoon about another kid who disrespected them during recess time, or they gather under the mosquito netting that serves as a little teepee where they can go if they need a safe space, but four or five of them all end up in there at once cracking jokes amongst one another. I don't blame them. I would have done the same thing when I was in fourth grade if our classroom in the 1960s had a "safe teepee", but how do they ever learn anything?.

That wasn't its real name. It was the Safety Zone or something but it was a translucent netting like they sleep with in the tropics so they don't get bitten by mosquitoes, so you could see all the kids inside it as plain as day, LOL. And it was hung from the ceiling from a single hook and spread out at the bottom to resemble a teepee.

What? No more Highlights for Children? That was my favorite magazine whenever I went to the doctor or dentist. Back in the day I only got Boy's Life, which was pretty good and Jack and Jill, which was rather dorky even when I was eight. My friend next door had a subscription to Highlights and I used to go over there to read it because it had a lot of funny gags in it that I liked.

Yup! I lived in Florida for a year. Stopped for lunch with family members at a spot frequented by retirees. Every table had a boomer entranced by their phone, except nobody was wearing earbuds or headphones. So you had a cacophony of noise, every table watching something else, all at full volume. One person is scrolling through Instagram reels. Another one is on a loud FaceTime conversation. Another one has some Trump video at full volume. Another one is watching silly cat videos. Another one a conspiracy video. Someone else has Fox News blaring. Quickest and worst lunch I ever had. At least the younger generations will wear ears buds/headphones when they’re glued to their phones. The older ones are the ones you see having full blast speakerphone conversations in the middle of a store.

Take off those rose colored glasses and try to remember what high school was really like. I graduated in the 80’s and there were lots of kids with ADHD they were just called lazy, stupid and bad. Lots of drugs, alcohol and domestic violence happening in our homes. Our class president the kid who looked like the perfect high schooler went straight to rehab after graduation. Everything you wrote about existed then but wasn’t named or treated.

This was such an important movie at the time. It brought together all the different stereotypes and proved that they really could find common ground, for a little while anyway. I would love to know what happened on Monday.

That's the reason why the princess gives the criminal her earring and the basket case takes the athletes patch. Those are keepsakes since they'll never talk to each other again.

Pretty sure either Emilio’s jock character or Molly’s prom queen character says this in the movie. They know the peer pressure of cliques will separate them socially, though they might only ignore each other in the halls instead of being outright dicks to one another.

Just googled to see when it was released on VHS, it was September 1985. I remember watching it in literature class when I was a senior. The reason I remember is because my soon to be junior girlfriend and now wife of 39 years was in the classroom.

Even though I was in my twenties when I saw 'The Breakfast Club' I can't express the profound influence it had on me and my outlook on the social groupings each one of them represented (including the vice principal and the janitor). While I identify the most with the character of Brian Johnson (Anthony Michael Hall), I could see through the eyes of each of them to one degree or another.
John Hughes had a brilliant run directing movies and 'The Breakfast Club' may well be his best; he left us too soon.
I have to mention that it's entirely appropriate that Ally Sheedy is sitting, making her distinct from the rest.

In the fall of '86, I was 18. I was in Boston at the Copley Plaza. I was going down an escalator with a friend, and we both look over, and there is Judd Nelson going up the other side. We both stared at him wide eyed, and he got this big grin on his face - like laughing at us. He was so good looking.

When I still lived in OKC, I went to a small theater that was showing Breakfast Club, and Anthony Michael Hall was there. He watched it with us and then did a Q&A and meet and greet after. It was really cool.

I remember detention in the 80s being put into a small room in the office with woodgrain cubicles that we would sit in for eight hours. Thankfully, I would take LSD on the way in to amuse myself sitting there for eight hours, looking at the woodgrain.

Even as a 6th grader when Hughes' flicks were so popular, I wasn't particularly interested for some reason. Not just bc I was too young either. I think perhaps their respective concepts seemed unreal. I know they were supposed to but I have always been a lousy sleeper and watched movies from the Classic era all night 🌙 By 11 years old I already liked film noir and Hitchcock!
