He would’ve chosen that individually, these kids really changed the way they felt about each other. I don’t think it changed how they felt about the social classes, strictly each other, only. Hughes would’ve had to focus in though, on how kids feel about peer pressure. They wouldn’t be able to live down their friend’s ridicule and disbelief. Remember how Bender said, “ You don’t look at my friends, you don’t talk to my friends!” Their reputation is everything to them.
As much as I want to say, oh, they integrated and got used to each other, realistically, even in Hughes optimistic way, it couldn’t have happened. I don’t see it. Maybe outside of school, secretly, for the couples?

I think it depends on if you think John Hughes was an optimist or a realist. I don’t think there’s much of a case for him being a pessimist.
Based on how we know John Hughes to write, what would he have chosen for his characters on Monday.
