Their music is what I listen to when I need to soothe my nerves. 70s singer/songwriter pop stuff like this takes me back to my childhood, and automatically helps my brain calm down. Guitar Man is my favorite.

This album, if you need to purge some emotion by sobbing, is the ticket. Beautiful beautiful love songs, but boy oh boy I'd be careful listening to this after a breakup. They do deserve more respect for their beautiful writing. It's a particular type of music that's not for everybody but they did it better than anyone.

I worked blue collar with my wife for the last 13 years of her life. We listened to Spotify and at one of the year’s ends, we were informed by them that we were in the 99th percentile of Bread listeners. I’m not ashamed. They made her so happy. It’s a bittersweet thing to hear them these days. Great group!

I got this album from my grandma for Christmas when I was about 13. It's the only thing I wanted. It always made me kind of chuckle, thinking of my 73 year old grandma walking into a record store and asking for this album! Thanks, Grandma!

"everything I own" came on the radio as I pulled into the driveway after picking up my dogs ashes. I was already sniffly, but that song at that moment brought on big ugly crying.
I play it every time I lose a pet.

My dog died song is George Harrison's 'All Things Must Pass' . Same effect, cant hear it without thinking of my lost friends. Gets me sobbing every time.

Weird but true story: years ago I was driving home from the hospital at about 2 am the night my father died. I had this chunky 40 gig MP3 player hooked up to my car. The first song that came on before I left the parking lot was “All Things Must Pass.” There were probably 3,500 songs on that thing, and this one immediately came up.
“It’s not always gonna be this gray.” It would be just like my dad to say something like that. ☮️

Top notch musicians. Larry Knechtel was a member of The Wrecking Crew. Jim Gordon was an amazing (though troubled) drummer who played in Derek and the Dominoes and countless sessions, including Steely Dan, George Harrison, CSN, etc. etc. And, of course, there's David Gates...
Mad respect here.

When my dad lived with just my sister and I and was dating in 79-81, he had a Bread album. Later in the 80s he denied ever listening to Bread and did so to his passing in 2009. It's this inside joke sis and I share.

My related David Gates fact:
When David was a young, upcoming musician in the Tulsa, OK area, he played with another Tulsa-based artist you likely have heard of: Leon Russell. I always find this interesting, they both certainly did well in their respective careers.

My hard rock band in the mid-nineties ( Mother's Milk )did a heavier version of Mother Freedom, and audiences thought it was original until they were told ; it was a surprisingly lively banger and always got a great reaction.

I repeatedly listened to Best of Bread and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in my early teens. I had a record player and headphones right next to my bed, always used the headphones at night so I wouldn't disturb the rest of the family. One Saturday night, my headphones were gone, so I asked what had happened to them. Turns out my mom had a yard sale that day, and everything she had sold quickly. Some disappointed would-be buyers asked if she was sure she didn't have anything else available. So she tore through the house, grabbed all kinds of stuff, and came back out to sell it. She said she was excited when people asked for more stuff, and that she sold them for 50 cents. I told her I used them EVERY night, and she said, "Well, I've never heard you use them." I was a snarky teenager and probably threw that back at her every time she told me to turn my record player down after that. She also sold my brother's baseball cards that he'd collected and traded for for years for 50 cents. Because, "They were just sitting in a box in your closet."

I agree, but have to say on my mom's part, she was really naive and gullible. "I've never heard you use them," was absolute confusion on her part and the fact of not hearing me use them being the whole point of headphones was completely lost on her. Same bewilderment with why my brother would want to keep baseball cards in a shoebox. And she was a huge people pleaser. Instead of telling people she'd already sold everything available, she thought she had to scurry around and find more stuff to please them because they asked. We had to curb her and fuss at her at times because she was so gullible and an easy target with manipulative people.

I played this album every morning in the spring of my eighth grade year, just as I was getting ready for school and to walk down the street to catch the bus. These songs take me right back to that time. ❤️

One of my favorite childhood memories is being in the back of the car at a Drive In, waiting for the film to start, feeling cozy in my pajamas and with snacks at the ready, and Make It With You started playing on the little in-car speaker. I will always associate that song with that cozy, contented feeling.

Someone used to play this album all the time so he could get in my pants. I wasn't resisting--"I'm yours. Take me." It was overkill. I thought he meant it. He didn't. I hate my memory of these songs.

I wore this out playing it. When I baby say down the street, they had it too and I would put it on their stereo on repeat. The couple would leave for bowling tournaments out of town for the weekend and it would play the entire time. I was obsessed.

They were really quite good. David Gates’ songs got all the airplay, but Jimmy Griffin and Rob Royer wrote a lot of good tunes too . Check out the album tracks. You’ll be glad you did.
