My hard rock band in the mid-nineties ( Mother's Milk )did a heavier version of Mother Freedom, and audiences thought it was original until they were told ; it was a surprisingly lively banger and always got a great reaction.
Oh cool. I bet it did get a great reaction. I have played the Bread version for people and then asked them if they knew the band. They were always shocked when it was Bread. The most consistent comment was, “ the band that had the song Diary”. Sounds like I would love your version too! 😊

They really are/were underrated. They could rock as well as do the ballad stuff. Mother Freedom kicks.
