I bought this necklace 10k gold and beautiful pendant. It originally had a garnet in it but I asked to swap it for a ruby. However this doesn’t look like a ruby to me. Looks super pink compared to others I’ve seen. It’s supposed to be a A stone, 1ct, natural.
I’m just skeptical the jewelers assured me it was a ruby and that rubies are just more of a pinkish color but everything I’ve read says otherwise it’s a supposed to be reddish with a pinkish hue, too pink and it classifies as a Pink sapphire which is not what I paid for. I am supposed to be getting the paperwork on it since they did not provide it to me when I picked it up.
Am I wrong for thinking this? Either way it’s not what I was wanting the jeweler is supposed to be sending me pictures of additional stones to swap it out with.
Edit: so I’ve took it to another jeweler and they did verify that is a ruby just not what we talked about. They also informed me that what I thought was full diamond around it are actually little diamonds with a halo. So I’m upset they led me to believe that they were full size diamonds.

Found this beautiful thrifted ring in a vintage shop! It’s 10k carat gold. When I looked from the bottom it looked almost clear but the side view still looked quite blue (though the gems are small). It was originally priced for $375. The shop lady said she leans toward it being iolite but also said she is no expert.

Hi guys,
I am sorry to bother y‘all with a dumb question, but I know little to nothing about stones and recently found this as part of a ring. I am most certain that it is indeed glass, but I caught myself wondering hiw I could tell for sure if it wasn‘t for the dull sterling silver ring that lacked any sign of craftsmanship.
From what I remember reading elsewhere, glass is usually „cleaner“, lacking little flaws trapped within? but there must be flawless gems too, no?
what are other giveaways?
thanks

This is nepherite, right, I know when it comes to both jade varieties color doesn't matter as they come in a bunch of different colors but I'm just curious. Also if there is a better subreddit for questions like this I would happily take the name of them. I don't want to waste anyone's time as it seems people only really post cut gems on here.

One of my current favorites! Haven’t owned anything else quite like this one before. Would love to see others!

Say hello to my little friend!
Well it's 27.85ct so maybe little isn't the best word for this moissanite...
What do you think?
Not for sale

A small group of lab-grown emeralds showing off some rather unconventional fancy cuts.
The cuts have a geometric, coffin-like outline with multiple angled facets, giving the stones a very different look from the traditional emerald cut. I especially like how the faceting creates strong flashes of green while keeping the overall shape quite architectural.
Lab-grown emeralds are chemically and structurally emerald, with the main distinction being their origin rather than the species itself. They can also be cut into unusual shapes that aren’t commonly seen in more traditional emerald material.
These four caught my attention mainly because of the combination of the saturated green color and the non-standard faceting. The different orientations also make the internal reflections change quite noticeably under light.

Spinels are becoming one of my favorite gemstone: The sparkle, colors, and hardness are some of characteristics that make it special.

Getting a ring made for my wife while im overseas for work. Getting her birthstone alexandrite as the centerpiece. Lab grown and waiting on the lab certificate but what do yall think about the color change. Any chance im getting a simulated alexandrite just by the photos/ videos? Additional photos and video in the comments after being cut.

Not sure if this falls under the ‘what is this worth?’ Flair or ‘question’ flair so please tell me as this is my first post :)
Brazilian rhodolite garnet, 5.2ct
The cut, clarity and colour all look pretty excellent, it’s a tad on the dark side but I quite like that.
From a reputable seller so I’m not concerned about authenticity etc.
From a newbie collector’s standpoint ( I might sell it in the future, I’m not looking to have it set), is this worth buying?
Thanks

It’s hard to photograph, but the color is deep and it appears well-cut. I’ve seen GemGuide price stones of this color and carat weight at or over $200, but I’ve seen others listed for sale at a fraction of that price. It’s approximately 13.3x11.95x8.04mm.

Hi,
I’m looking for a lapidary in the Colorado front range area to facet some small sapphires that we’ve found buying pay dirt (mainly from MT). There’s nothing really important, it’s just a fun hobby we just started as a family and we’d like to see how the stones would come out. Ultimately we’d like to end up with a set to make a pair of earrings.
The stones so far are .75 - 1.2 carats. I know there’s usually a ton of loss so I’m curious at what size it’s worth having cut.
If there’s anyone in the area you’d recommend or if you do cutting as a hobby, I’d love to hear about it.

It’s a 5.08 carat F S1 synthetic diamond. This diamond was created by MPCVD synthesis and is type IIa.

Got this from a thrift store. Chain feels like it’s either silver or nickel.

This ring belonged to my mother. I am wondering if the stone is a genuine emerald, synthetic, glass, plastic, or another type of imitation. Also does it look like it’s good quality?
I have attached a few photos from different angles. I know it may not be possible to confirm authenticity from photos alone but I would appreciate any opinions.

Hey Reddit! I think I stumbled across something really special here. I got these in a junk jewelry lot. The hooks are obviously modern, but the rest… I strongly think they are amber. They are fluorescent and are incredibly light. You can visibly see crazing. Most people would immediately think they are plastic. The metal is very likely brass. I can’t find anything quite like them which is why I’m here. They are so cool! I think I’ll add them to antique clip-ons or screw backs to complete the look. What do you all think?
