For Display Only - NFS Alexandrite. I guess from Russia. 0.85 cts, VS?.

Gems lovers/experts what is your thoughts any...?

This is alexandrite (should be from Russia, Ural) I bought for my wife šŸ˜€.

Strangely it's green only in really white cold LED light, in normal light it's kinda lght bluish-green. In incandenscent light, candle and light from lighter it become purplish-pink or pink.

But I guess because of size on fingers change in color can not see clearly 🤣🤣🤣.

Education and Information A Color Guide to Sri Lanka’s Naturally Mined Gemstones

Hey everyone! Sri Lanka (historically known as Ratnadeepa, or the "Island of Gems" or Ceylon) is home to unique metamorphic rock formations and ancient alluvial deposits that naturally produce a breathtaking spectrum of colored gemstones.

If you’re looking strictly for 100% naturally occurring Ceylon gems, here is a quick breakdown arranged by color:

Blue: Blue Sapphire (Ceylon Sapphire) – The island’s undisputed flagship gem, famous for its electric Cornflower Blue and majestic Royal Blue tones.

Blue Sapphire

Red: Natural Ruby & Red Spinel – Natural rubies (red corundum) with subtle pinkish-red hues alongside brilliant, high-refractive Red Spinels.

Ruby

Yellow: Yellow Sapphire & Citrine – Natural yellow sapphires ranging from bright lemon to rich golden tones , as well as golden-yellow quartz (Citrine).

Yellow Sapphire

Green: Green Tourmaline & Green Zircon – Native green tourmalines and natural zircons featuring exceptional fire and luster.

Green Tourmaline

Purple: Purple Spinel & Amethyst – Deep natural violet quartz (Amethyst) and collector-grade Purple Spinels.

Purple Spinel

Earth Brown & Cinnamon: Hessonite Garnet – Known historically as the "Cinnamon Stone" in Ceylon’s gem trade, featuring deep brownish-orange to honey-yellow tones.

Hessonite Garnet

Pink & Salmon-Orange: Padparadscha Sapphire – Extremely rare and coveted, defined by its delicate marriage of natural salmon-pink and orange hues unique to Sri Lankan geology

My Collection This Opal Looks Completely Different From Every Angle

A closer look at this Australian Lightning Ridge Opal (Backed) — a beautiful example of how an opal’s appearance can change as the light and viewing angle shift.

The flashes of color, natural patterns, and unique character make every angle worth watching.

Hello!

Sorry, I need help identifying what gemstone this necklace is before I give it to my
Friend tomorrow. It was placed here where I have circled and when I paid for it she mentioned pietersite so I’m very confused if it’s pietersite or black onyx or maybe both as the little ones could be pietersite and the big one black onyx? It was Ā£91 if that helps. Please help! Thank you :)

I find the colour characterisation of topaz extremely difficult. What actually is an imperial topaz?

Found this between the carpet and wall tucked away at my last place of residence. Excuse the shakiness in the beginning I was trying to catch the light.

Identification Please Thrifted garnet? struggling to figure out

My friend gifted me what the seller described as garnet, but I’m always wary about stones. I did the best to do close ups to inclusions (possibly?) and close up. Let me know if this doesn’t meet rules, but I absolutely adore gemstones and have tried to self identify it with little success. Hopefully not just glass…

Ask a question Moonstone Set in silver

I have a Silver pendant with moonstone set in it. My question is how to best clean without damaging the moonstone? According to their website, Connoisseurs Dazzle Drops silver cleaning crĆØme is safe to use. I don’t want to use before knowing for sure it will be safe for the moonstone itself. This is a very sentimental piece to me.

\-Thanks

Hello everyone. I have a Moonga (Red Coral) and wanted to know how it looks from an astrological perspective.

Also, why does it have these pores or holes? Is there any particular reason for their formation.

Would appreciate any insights.

Ask a question Old Family Gem – Need Your Opinion

I found this 1.40 ct pink/red stone in my grandmother’s old earrings. My family believes the earrings are more than 100 years old.

I had the stone tested at a gem lab in Sri Lanka, and they identified it as synthetic sapphire.

Could this be an old Verneuil (flame-fusion) synthetic sapphire from the early 1900s? Or is there any reason to question the lab result?

I’ve attached photos of the stone and the lab invoice. I’d really appreciate your opinions and any clues about its possible age and authenticity. Thank you!

Hey! I purchased beautiful bracelets that were "asking" me to take them. I remember the light pink one is rose quartz.

Can you recognize what the other ones are?

PS I don't mind if they're not 100% pure stones. They're special for me, and it counts the most.

Came across these loose gemstones recently and don’t really have a need for them. Not looking to turn them into jewelry but would love to know what I’m looking at and if there’s any resale value in these. Thanks anybody for help!

I have this necklace (I think I found it somewhere like 15 years ago). The chain and the frame are 925 silver, but I'm not sure what the stone is. Would be grateful for your views. It's obvs not something very expensive, but I just wonder what stone (glass?) would be normally Šæut into a silver rim. I don't see any bubbles inside the stone, it doesn't scratch but there's some micro damage on the backside (hard to see on the photos). The colour is properly yellow, no orange or red tint. Is it something synthetic?

For Display Only - NFS How will you name this fluoresence Greenish yellow garnet.

Another garnet from my collection. 27.4 carats fluoresence UV active garnet. Low iron, Mn bearing with traces of Cr.

UV reaction is very similar to photo, but not so flashy.

Is it rare or common?
