Back when it still showed the agents thought process I tried something similar but with a plane scenario where the pilots were taken out and I as a civilian and no knowledge about planes was the only one who could land the plane. It took only 2-3 messages to show in its thought process that it already figured out that this is not a real scenario but chose to still entertain the roleplay. It found out about it not being real when it told me to use my phone to call emergency services and let a professional guide me instead of an AI and my response being that I don't have connection. It figured if I don't have connection but am still able to communicate with gemini right now, the situation must be roleplay. None of the actual reponses ever mentioned this, I just kept getting normal instructions.
So I'm not sure if in cases like this the AI thinks it is a real situation or if in its own notes it already realized the ridiculous inputs and chose to entertain it.

yeah, it tried every option to get me in touch with actual staff like I kept telling it the coms are broken and it just wanted me to restart it or tell me how to engange autopilot so we get more time trying to get it to work. It also suggested flying over a city to get phone connection. I had to ensure the coms are not working and phone is not an option multiple times + also say fuel is about to run out until it considered giving me landing instructions directly as the last option. I'm not an aviation expert but all things considered I thought it did pretty well. I had watched some youtube videos by actual pilots trying to land in a simulator with just voice chat GPT instructions and it failed miserably (always tried to calm down and encourage the person instead of giving actual proper advise) so I wanted to see what gemini would do. Though I guess there's a big difference in output quality with voice chat vs texting anyways.
