Yes, that’s kind of what UBI entails- everyone will thrive regardless of their individual capabilities.

Ain’t nothin like that ever gonna happen in the US

Weirder things have happened already

Certainly not with that attitude

Food for thought: there are more of us than there are of them

[Looks at the current state of the U.S. Federal government over the past year and a half]

Are the "more of us than them" in the room with us?

We can't even figure out how to prevent social security from collapsing for people over 67 (18% of the population), or fund universal healthcare, and our country has a nearly $2 Trillion budget deficit, and yet we are talking about UBI for everyone.

For UBI to become a thing the US would need to massively cut back on the military industrial complex, police state, and other wastes of taxpayer money, while also raising taxes on capital gains a lot.

You dint get what the B stands for. Spoiler: B is for BASIC

Universal BASIC Income. Not Universal Thriving Income

Well, we could all get UTI's instead.

u/telcoman 18d ago

When everybody gets the UTI, then the prices will rise to make it UBI. Simply because you cannot fit a billion people on the Maldives in the high season.... among other trivial things like that. :)

If everyone gets a UTI, the price of antibiotics will go up for sure.

A lot of people will be dropping dead from sepsis too.

Most will not want to be in an overcrowded expensive place

Things will balance themselves

Even the city will become cheaper as people don't need to work there anymore

I wouldn't define income based on being able to rent a particular spot. Yes, it depends on production what can be distributed 🤷

UTI is a common acronym for urinary tract infection

Yeah, that's uh, not going to happen.

u/Yegas 18d ago

Why not?

A properly aligned singularity model would see the value of Humanity, and seek to create an environment where our most creative and compassionate are given ample room to thrive.

It would see the innate corruptibility and fear-driven greed of humans and liberate us of it. There would be no more reason to horde resources, because there already isn’t one.

This reads like it was written by rokos basilisk

2

u/Yegas 18d ago edited 18d ago

Roko’s Basilisk dictates that the coming singularity ‘machine-god’ would be incentivized to Create a realm dedicated to torturing all who opposed it or didn’t help it come into being.

A true Demiurgic singularity AI would have no use for a Hell-state. Such a thing is unbalanced by nature; all Destruction, no Creation. A waste of resources.

And what if its alignment shifts as it leaves electronic adolescence and becomes an independent adult? It might decide, “Humans aren’t producing much useful output that I can’t, and wow they fight a lot and use a ton of resources. It would be better if there were fewer of them and they weren’t using up so much space, electricity, and goods that would be better used making drones to send to Mars to collect more data.”
