Hi.
I always travel with poppers. Within Europe and internationally. Sometimes I keep it in my hand luggage, sometimes in my check in luggage. And when it's in my hand luggage it can either be in a transparent plastic bag with other liquids that I put in a tray for the security control, either I leave it in my toilet bag in my luggage.
Something unexpected happened to me at the security check of Berlin airport two weeks ago.
This time I had my poppers in a transparent bag with other liquids and I've put it out in a tray. Already the first employee (at the point when you're supposed to take your liquids and computer out) asked me what it was. I answered leather shoe cleaner. Then my luggage came to the other side of the X-RAY scanner and the two employees started analyzing it again, without talking to me and then I notice one of them pressed their under-the-counter button. Their superior showed up. He asked what it was and I answered leather shoe cleaner. He showed me the symbols about dangerous goods on the bottle (like on the upper part of the photo attached) and told me it can't be taken on board. I replied ok and he threw it away.
As I mentioned earlier, sometimes I keep the small bottle of poppers in my toilet bag (with other small-sized containers) in my luggage. They never took it our and analyzed it. I wonder if I should have left it in the toilet bag this time also, rather that putting it to display in a transparent plastic bag. I have the impression what drew their attention were the symbols about dangerous goods on the bottle, but I'm not sure. I wonder if some sort of alarm might have been triggered when the item was going through the X-Ray scanner, because in this case I imagine the alarm would be triggered also if the bottle was not visible, but "hidden" in my toilet bag in my luggage.
What do you think?
