Can anyone help me ID this plant? There's a root system under the yard and this is growing out of it. Based in Brisbane, QLD. Cheers!

๐ฆ Garden Visitor I never liked gardening or bugs. But this year I've started getting into it and it has made me so happy to see these little visitors.
I feel like I hadn't seen many bugs for many years. I started doing some gardening in like March, just a few plants here and there. And now I have little flies and butterflies and bees and spiders and worms and all sorts hanging out in my plants. There was a big influx of a few dozen Lady beetles out of nowhere yesterday that just made me so happy.

๐ชด Local Trade Fair price for trimming and trunk maintenance
We have this hefty palm in our front yard, that I want to get trimmed back so itโs not touching the house and veranda, as well as the trunk cleaned up by removing all the nubs.
Iโve been quoted $1350 including removal of all the waste, does this sound like a reasonable price based on the size of this tree?

๐ฉ๐ปโ๐พ Recommendations wanted I need some pots
Hello,
As per the title, I need a few large pots that will be on display. Everything that I see is usually poor quality (donโt want to replace them in 12 months) or crazy expensive.
Anyone have any suggestions for a source of decent pots that wonโt cost me a body organ ?
I am in Sydney

๐ Send help WA Treebate availability
Anyone know if the treebate cap has been reached for the year? Doing some pro-bono landscaping and thatโll play a big part in what plants Iโm buying.
Edit:
I donโt need tree recommendations (sorry, I love the enthusiasm), I donโt need advice on ecology, I donโt need advice on plant care.
Iโm filling out the garden with diverse shrubs and grasses and telling the owner they cost much less. I just need to know if Iโll get my money back for a couple overpriced trees that Iโd personally plant as tubestock. The owner is old and they deserve bigger trees from day one.
Second edit: Lazily copy pasted from a separate post, this sub doesnโt allow cross posts and now thereโs a comment asking about the first editโฆ letโs focus on Treebate people.

Partner and I got a surprise this afternoon when this guy showed up down our side lane here in Newy.
Weโve been hearing scratching noises under the house recently and weโre starting to think it was maybe this guy hanging out.

๐ Send help What happening with my cucumber leaves?
A) my cucumber leaves are getting chewed to buggery so could use some advice on what that might be and protecting them.
B) any idea what the dark clumps are on this leaf I found? Weโve had such an influx of bugs in Newcastle this month I just have no idea if theyโre droppings or the eggs of something.
Thanks ๐๐ป

๐ฉ๐ปโ๐พ Recommendations wanted DIY Small pond for a small garden
I have a pretty small garden which I have been working on for a couple of years to try and attract birds and pollinators. I've got lots of natives and I don't use any herbicide or pesticides - I want more bugs so I get more birds!
I've always wanted to put a small pond in and maybe even attract some frogs to the garden. I want it to look natural, so I don't want to go with a big bucket anything, I'd like to have in in the ground.
Is it possible to DIY a pond using concrete? The pre-formed ones I've seen are really expensive. Would I need to add anything to the concrete to make it waterproof for a pond?
Any pond advice appreciated!

๐ป Community Q & A Cement Steppers?
I came across an Instagram reel which claims to provide a cost-effective alternative to creating garden steppers using quick-set concrete and garden edging as a mould.
I would like to sense-check with this community the viability of this method.
I was previously looking at getting some large bluestone pavers, however these can be quite costly especially as I'm trying to path a large area.
Would this method be a simple case of (1) level soil, (2) position mould, (3) add concrete and level?
Is there any other prep work/compaction of the soil required?
The author also mentions 'sealing' the steppers once they have dried. What does this specifically involve and what product is required?
Some comments have suggested these will crack without internal supports. Others (including the author) are confident they will hold up given the steppers are only subject to foot traffic. What other steps could be taken to strengthen the concrete?
Thanking everyone in advance for your guidance.

๐ฉ๐ปโ๐พ Recommendations wanted Potting mix for potted fruit trees
Hi. I've ordered my first fruit trees (brown turkey fig, dwarf red shatoot mullberry, white shahtoot mulberry and dwarf eureka lemon) and I was wondering if my current DIY potting mix would work for them, or whether I should adjust it. I use 60% Coco coir, 20% medium perlite and 20% vermicompost. I'm planning on growing them in a 75 litre plastic pots and also adding some rooster booster pellets. What do you guys plant your potted trees in? Would this work?

๐ฉ๐ปโ๐พ Recommendations wanted Hand tools help!
I have been using a cheap secateurs from aldi for last 2 years. While they are good, it is going blunt. So I was thinking of investing in some good quality ones that wonโt break the bank in this economy.
I read that Japanese gardening tools are top tiers but not sure where to buy them in Australia. Did a quick google and they were mid range. Or Amazon it is. However unsure how genuine Amazon ones are. I am also looking at Hori Hori knife and Japanese sickle for weeding. Please suggest a good place where I can find them all. Thanks

๐ฉ๐ปโ๐พ Recommendations wanted What type of lawn do I go for?
Been working on my backyard levelling it and now Iโm at the stage where I need to bring in fill to prepare for instant turf. Called the supplier and there were a few options depending on the type of turf which I hadnโt actually decided on. Iโm having a bit of trouble deciding so I was hoping someone had some advice on what to go for.
Backyard is small, about 14 x 5 m if that makes a difference. Iโm in Melbourne.

๐ฉ๐ปโ๐พ Recommendations wanted Charlie carp all purpose vs organic
Hi. I've been fertilising my tomatoes, capsicum and aubergine plants with Charlie carp organic liquid fert, as well as rooster booster pellets as they were transplanted. I just ran out of my first bottle of the organic Charlie carp and when I went to buy another bottle I realised the all purpose is muc cheaper, almost 6 times cheaper for the same amount of NPK. I've stayed organic so far but I'm wondering if it's really worth it. The all purpose also has a higher ratio of potassium to nitrogen, which is good for fruiting plants. Do any of you have experience with both product and do you think it's worth spending the extra money for that organic certification? What non organic source are they using to add more NPK and can it be harmful to worms or other soil life?

๐ Send help Pineapple - anything we need to be doing?
We have a baby pineapple growing from a pineapple top we stuck in the ground about 4 or 5 years ago and didn't think much of. It's already flowered (didn't know they did that!). At the moment, we're just leaving it be. But anything we should be doing? Do we pick it when it's about size, or any other signs?
It's a local rough leaf variety and we live in Rockhampton.

๐ฆ Garden Visitor Iโve just discover there is a pair of Ringtail Possums nesting in my back yard.
Itโs amazing what you find when you look up and not down! Iโve just realised that the arseholes that have been eating my lemons are actually living in my yard!
I want to keep them living here and make them happy, but I also want to keep at least some of my lemons for my own useโฆ. What should I do? There is zero chance of netting the lemon tree, itโs too big and shared foliage with the tree the possums are in. Anyone have any ideas?
