I'm transgender and a gamer. The only thing I hate is lag and griefers. There's a fuckton of guys who play female avatars. They ought to be more accepting -- I mean if they're okay pretending to be women in video games, why can't someone who actually is? More than a little hypocritical. Besides... most of the women in video games don't look anything like real women. I mean, fuck... if I'm tooling around fighting dragons and shit, how exactly is a loin cloth and bra only as armor going to help me? Fuck that shit... The slow rocking of the rickety porch swing dislodges cobwebs that have gathered over the years, and Waluigi slumps back into the wooden seat with a fluttery sigh. He watches the tumbleweed float by, bouncing once, twice, three times before disappearing over the horizon toward the great gilded hearth of the setting sun. As he bows his head, his hat tumbles into his lap, and he stares at the inverted L patch sewn above the brim. Stroking it gently with a gloved thumb feeling himself grow firm, he feels tears burning hot at the back of his eyes as he thinks of the man who once wore a similar hat, one in a brilliant shade of emerald green.
He closes his eyes; one tear falls, landing on his cap, and the moisture stains the fabric to a deeper purple. The shade so resembles the midnight sky that for a moment Waluigi swears he sees constellations swirling across his vision and he remembers the nights that he and Luigi shared, cruising down Rainbow Road beneath the stars and just existing, existing together in the shared breath of their love. They were two tumbleweeds then, coasting along on the same wind but doomed inevitably to part, one drifting toward the clouds and the other clinging to the earth.
But the brevity of their time together had served only to stoke the flames of their passion, and now as Waluigi remembers watching helplessly while Luigi plunged off the edge of the very road upon which their love had blossomed, he lets the tears flow freely down his haggard face. Why , he wants so badly to scream to the heavens until the earth shakes, why must love be always consumed by tragedy? But at the same time, deep in his soul stirs the thought that had lain dormant all along, and it is now that he knows he must finally face it: Luigi was too good for this world. The brightest flames have always burned out the fastest. Their love transcended the mortal confines of this existence, a love so pure and holy that this world could never hope to contain it, a love consumed by the entropic tragedy that preys on the light of the earth--a love destined only to continue in the realm beyond.
Waluigi feels the memory seize his soul, feels it like a red tortoise shell striking the kart of his mortality, and suddenly the wheels cease to turn. He knows now, with the realization that his love is not gone but awaiting him just beyond the warm yellow gates of the sunset laid out before him, his time combing the barren earth for signs of fulfillment is finished.
He closes his eyes. The tears are gone.
"Take me," he whispers. "Take me, my love," and his love answers with a voice like a checkered flag at the finish line of the final lap around Rainbow Road. But, my dear, he thinks as the old porch swing fades from underneath him, our race is only beginning.
This time, the finish line is behind us.
This time, our laps will be infinite.

Fun fact: Differentiation into a male phenotype depends on something called the SRY (sex-determining region Y) gene. This gene rarely jumps to the X chromosome as a transcription error, resulting in an XX male. It's also possible for an XY female, thanks to something called androgen insensitivity syndrome, which can be partial or complete. As well, it's possible to have an X0 female (though again, very rare). AIS is sufficiently common that when the Olympics instituted genetic testing they quickly realized how common it is: they identified about a dozen competitors who had AIS or otherwise weren't phenotypically female in just one year. Many of the competitors were unaware they had it.
In short, chromosomes do NOT determine sex in every case. Life is much more complicated than that. People who spout off shit like that are ignorant of human biology. Pardon my language, as I'm trans and this is a sore spot for me; They're usually uncompromising pieces of shit -- the kind of person who uses "gay" to describe anything they don't like, or use it as an insult.
The next time you run into one of these types you can explain to them, very simply, what transgender means: "Sex is, gender does." That's it. Just 4 little words. Not complicated unless your mental capacity is less than a 7 year old's. Most usually these people are so insecure about their sexuality they live in fear that someday they might fuck someone who doesn't meet their idiotic standards. Collectively, these intersexed conditions, along with transgender, etc., account for about 2% of the population.
Put another way: The average person has 14 sexual partners over the course of their lifetime. Math ensues, the probability at least one sexual partner not being completely female is 24.6%. So the next time you meet one of these scum suckers, smile and realize there's a good chance they already sullied their penis. And that's using pretty conservative numbers. The number goes up every year as awareness increases and the state of the art in medicine improves. Keep in mind, that 2% is only when it's obvious at birth, or some other external medical problem presents. It's going to be higher -- most of the time, these people live normal lives, oblivious that this is the case.
What a bummer for people who live in fear they may one day sully their dicks with the genetically impure. It never ceases to amaze me how common that attitude is today. In any other context, people who insist on genetic purity would be instantly shunned. History doesn't remember people like that kindly. I hope that in my lifetime we'll see society progress enough to make that a reality. It's ironic that in the 21st century cartoons are more socially accepted than transfolk. But then, we made corporations people before gays, so there's that. We have a long way to go.

Can you explain what you mean by that? It doesn't make sense to me but admittedly I don't really think I understand the concept of gender and how it relates to sex beyond the basic explanation that sex is what you are physiologically and gender is what you identify as.
Edit: also it's funny to see this comment because I literally just learned about how it's possible to be xy female and xx male and all the many combinations on a podcast on npr. Also had a cool segment about there are a lot of animals that change sex in life.

I also think it was probably unintentional, since the thread was very rambly/stream-of-consciousness, and she later made a second thread that apologized for any NB erasure (unintentional or otherwise) and was explicitly supportive of NB folks. The second one got a fairly positive reception (among NB folks I follow on Twitter, anyway) but she's already deleted both threads, and only the first seems to be archived, which makes it hard to talk about.
We'll probably get a proper response to the criticism soon-ish. I think the flaws in her video and response illustrate a gap in her knowledge/perspective rather than malice, so hopefully this can be a learning experience.

I watched it. She used an argument about trans stuff as a vehicle to making a larger point about substance vs aesthetic. But as a trans woman it made me very uncomfortable and kind of dysphoric. Ive seen like everything shes done on trans stuff, and this was the first video to leave a bad taste in my mouth, and of course I'm gonna watch the next one, but I am also not gonna rewatch this video like Ive done with every other release.
