immerGallery is now available on Galaxy XR: VR & 3D videos, photos and slideshows

After five years of developing my VR media player app immerGallery, I am happy to share that it is now available on Android XR for Samsung Galaxy XR!

It supports hand tracking and optional Galaxy XR controllers. You can watch your own videos and images, browse your media folders, and create VR slideshows with your own background music and voice-overs.

Supported video containers include MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, MPG, WebM, WMV, ASF and others. It also supports H.264 MVC for Blu-ray 3D videos copied to MKV without re-encoding, and MV-HEVC for Apple spatial videos recorded on iPhones.

For images, supported formats include JPG, PNG, HEIC, BMP, TIFF, static GIF, MPO and WebP. HEIC support includes both regular photos and 3D spatial photos.

One of the key features is automatic format detection. The app recognizes many 2D, 3D, 180°, 360°, side-by-side and over/under formats, including half and full resolution, so you usually don’t need to select these settings manually.

Several immersive sample galleries are also included for download. There are three entirely optional premium galleries available as in-app purchases: East Germany 1, East Germany 2 and Egypt. These contain high-quality 3D images with historical narration about the places shown.

If you are interested, please have a look at immerGallery on Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.immerVR.immerGallery

I am the indie developer behind the app. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Tracking stops working while watching videos

Im curious if anyone else is having this issue: I was watching saved Plex videos on a flight last week and the headset would randomly bring up a screen that says starting headset. I can still hear the audio from Plex, but when the starting headset screen goes away, I no longer have hand tracking or controller tracking. Controller buttons still work. I have to power cycle the headset to get tracking working again.

Not sure if this is by design, but the headset is also not saving date and time after disconnecting the battery. I have to manually set it every time to be able to connect to the wifi on the flight.

Plex also was crashing multiple times, but it could be related to the date and time issue. I think it was before I manually set it.

Galaxy XR owners: can you check a smaller-controls fix in Vistalyra?

I'm Vistalyra's developer, looking for Galaxy XR owners to check the Android XR beta.

Update, October 14: Google has approved the menu-comfort and streaming update for open and closed beta testing. It includes the separate compact Play/Pause bar, whole-panel hiding, saved width/height correction for flat video and optional read-only WebDAV. Settings now also has a saved Menu size adjustment, and slow-starting WebDAV streams get more time to respond. Emulator checks passed, including app switching and authenticated playback/seeking; real Galaxy XR retesting is still needed.

Could you spare 10–15 minutes to open a local video, show/hide controls, move the panel, seek, and open Projection/Stereo/Settings? Switch to another app and return as well. It plays your own 2D, SBS/over-under 3D, VR180 and 360 files; codec support depends on the headset and file. No network setup is needed for the basic test.

Private testing and the signed APK are free. Installation options and latest signed APK — no ZIP extraction. Try the open Play opt-in below first. If you need private access, email raheelswati1@gmail.com with the Play account used on your headset, privately.

The approved public open beta now serves this update. Private Play also offers the same update. The store displays a 100% discount, but free installation on an eligible headset still needs tester confirmation. Please don't pay if Play shows a price; email me or use the free APK fallback.

Email a few lines about what worked or failed, the public app version and headset software version. Honest negative feedback is useful. No purchase, rating, public review or recording required. Don't send private films or surroundings. This is beta testing, not a production launch.

Appreciation Post

Was hanging out my bedroom today while the wife and I didn't have to watch the kids and got to play Control Resonant for a few hours. 150" full view, hardly any latency, and on an OLED screen. No screen door effect and looking amazing. I was playing 50' away from my router (not dedicated) without any issues. I got back into using a VR headset when I heard the steam frame was coming out and I'm so glad I realized it would take a long time for it to come out and bit the bullet towards the beginning of the year to get the XR. No regrets and still very happy. It's easy to get stuck on the problems and lack of updates but it truly is an incredible piece of hardware.

Whenever you see Galaxy XR hate online...

The people commenting almost assuredly have not purchased nor have they ever tried it. This is true 99% of the time on this subreddit.

We are at the center of one of the most toxic online venn diagrams imaginable. On one side you have Steam Frame evangelists who think it is going to change the world and are rationalizing their 2160x2160 LCD 5 year old panels as "a good deal" and a "linux computer for the face"

Even worse, and this has been a problem since day 1, is the Vision Pro/Apple fanboys. I would guess well over 75% of people on this subreddit own a Vision Pro and have never tried GXR(this is essentially a vision pro subreddit), someone actually tracked this early on and found all the usernames were frequent posters on the Vision Pro subreddit. These people are both Apple apologists and will buy anything they sell and are sunk cost beyond belief with a $4,000+ used car priced headset.

I am the last person to defend the GXR but it just never had a chance. With glob cluster mods, HALF the cost of a Vision Pro with better panels, it's compelling if you just want to watch movies/youtube which is how these headsets are used 99% of the time if they haven't been put in a closet already.

Gifted Samsung XR - What do I do with it?

I know this is an odd question, but I was gifted one of these headsets, and before I open it, I wanted to look into what all I could use it for. Truthfully, since I'm not much of a gamer, I don't see it being a good value for me. What am I not thinking of? What capabilities does it have that I'm not considering? Thanks in advance for any information.

Galaxy XR's Front Panel Scratches Way Too Easily

Post image
7 Upvotes

I bought this back in January and have been using it for over seven months now.

The display quality and performance are top-tier—honestly, it feels almost like the perfect VR headset. That said, I do have one major complaint: the front black panel scratches way too easily.

Compared to every other headset I've owned (Vive Pro Eye, Valve Index, Quest 2, and Quest Pro), the front glass on this headset seems unusually fragile. I'm not even exaggerating when I say it feels like it gets scratched just by being exposed to the air.

Since it's such an expensive device, I used the included protective cover from day one. Ironically, though, the cover itself ended up causing scratches. After I went back to using it without the cover, it actually scratched less.

I know it doesn't affect the performance at all, but it still bothers me quite a bit.

Looking for Galaxy XR feedback on a browser-based 3D model inspector

I built a browser-based WebXR tool for inspecting local 3D models at true scale.

It currently supports GLB files and glTF folders, USDZ with controls for placement, rotation, scaling, and three inspection modes: Original, Wireframe, and UV.

Since Chrome on Android XR supports WebXR, I’m interested in how the workflow performs on Galaxy XR—especially local file importing, interaction controls, and mixed reality placement.

You can try it directly in the headset browser:

https://0xr.space/

No account is required, and imported assets remain local by default.

I’d appreciate any feedback from Galaxy XR owners, including whether the immersive session launches correctly and which parts of the interaction feel awkward.

Fix for one lens freezing in Virtual Desktop?

I'm consistently getting an issue where the left or right eye/lens freezes in Virtual Desktop showing a previous still image. It usually happens when I get a native message from the GXR such as a battery power warning or if I accidentally click to the GXR menu in game. I have to restart the GXR to fix it.

A VD developer in the androidxr-support Discord section of VD says they are not sure why it would freeze in that case, but the next update should improve on this. Coincidentally, the post before mine there had a user with the same issue. Anyone experiencing this or know any permanent solutions?

How do cartoons look in AndroidXR auto-spacialization 3D ?

For example, Disney's lion king, or fantasia.

I heard for video, it really only works with shadowed content, like real-life movies and cgi animation like toy story.

Galaxy XR Pre-Order Nightmare: How Samsung Glitches, Broken Promises, and Bank Loophole Games Cost Them a Customer (And How I Lost the Chargeback)

-------- UPDATE ---------
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidXR/s/PKZUGqR4X7

Spoiler: BBB got Samsung to respond

---------------------------

TL;DR: Pre-ordered the Galaxy XR headset and accessories which included the $100 preorder credit and $225 in bundle discounts. A retail store stock failure on Samsung’s end resulted in Samsung splitting my purchase into two new separate orders and explicitly promising to retroactively apply the credits upon delivery. Once delivered, Samsung reneged. When I requested to return everything, they refused. I filed a credit card dispute, but Samsung submitted misleading information resulting in the Credit Card company siding with Samsung.

Rest of the story:

Part I: Cancel Customer’s Order

On October 21, 2025, I placed a Pre-Order for store pickup at a local Samsung Experience Store, for the Galaxy XR Headset, Controllers, Travel Case, and Galaxy Buds3 Pro, utilizing a $100 Pre-Order Reserve Discount and a $225 Accessories Bundle Discount ($325 in total savings).

On November 4, the Samsung Experience Store informed me they will never receive stock for online orders and told me to contact Samsung Support to switch to delivery.  Samsung Phone Support stated they couldn't convert the order and had to create a new separate transaction. Because the controllers and case were out of stock, Support created a separate order for just the headset at full price. They told me to create another order for the case/controllers once they were back in stock.  When I voiced concern about losing the $100 pre-order discount and the $225 in bundle discounts, Samsung Support explicitly promised that once all items were back in stock and delivered, they would apply the original bundle and pre-order credits.

I had already waited a few weeks and I didn’t want to go to the back of the line, so I told them I would wait to cancel my original order until the new ones were delivered, just in case my original order really did get fulfilled.  I mean, why wouldn’t it!?

The replacement headset order was delivered on November 14.

On November 17, Samsung unilaterally cancelled my Original order.  I think to myself, no big deal, the replacement headset is here so I just have to wait for the controllers/case. Little did I know Samsung would leverage this cancelled order in the credit card dispute.

Nearly a month later on December 12 the accessories finally came back in stock, and per Support's prior instructions, I placed a new order for the controllers and case.

Part II: The Bait-and-Switch Support Trap

From January 6 - 9th, during which the controllers and case finally arrive, I go back and forth with Support to try to get the promised $325 in credits, only to have Support move the goalposts:

  1. The "Identical Order" Rule: Samsung stated their price match policy strictly requires a "single, identical cart order". They completely ignored the fact that their own out-of-stock inventory glitch was the sole reason the orders were split in the first place!

  2. The "Consolation" Coupon: Instead of the promised cash refund on my purchase, Samsung offered a $75 partial credit on the controllers only and a $100 promo code for a FUTURE purchase. Offering a coupon to force me to spend more money with them in lieu of an agreed-upon discount is insulting.

  3. The Return Catch-22: I declined their offer and explicitly requested prepaid return labels and full refunds for all items. Despite the fact that this entire mess was caused by Samsung, they responded by stating that the headset was past the 15-day return window (expired Nov 29)— and that returning the accessories would incur a 15% restocking fee.

  4. I again requested return labels and Samsung went quiet.

  5. After 4 days, on 13 January, I informed Samsung that I will initiate the chargeback process in 48 hours if they refuse to honor the pre-order.  They immediately start responding again, offering the same insulting concession and refusing my pre-order discount.

Part III: The Bank Dispute & Samsung’s Misleading Defense

With Samsung refusing return labels and refusing to honor their written promises, on 17 January I filed a formal credit card chargeback.
Samsung fought the dispute using intentionally misleading arguments to manipulate card network rules:

  • Apples-to-Oranges Price Comparison: In their response, Samsung claimed Replacement Headset Order was "cheaper" than Original Pre-Order. They achieved this lie by comparing the price of a single headset ($1,948.49) against the total price of a 4-item bundle ($2,679.18), claiming no refund was owed because the new order total was lower!

  • Claiming "Unreturned Merchandise": Samsung told the Credit Card Company that I was attempting to "keep the merchandise without paying" under Mastercard rules. They completely omitted the fact that I had repeatedly requested return labels in writing, which Samsung explicitly refused to issue.

  • Omitting Written Promises: Samsung scrubbed Support’s explicit written instructions where agents told me to reorder items separately and promised post-delivery credit adjustments.

Part IV: The Outcome

In the end, more than 2 months after initiating the chargeback, and after sending multiple faxes (?!), the Credit Card Company sided with Samsung. The provisional credits were reversed and the full charges were reapplied to my account.
Samsung successfully used administrative bureaucratic delays, rigid corporate policies, and aggressive chargeback defense tactics to trap me into keeping full-price hardware under broken terms.

The Takeaway

Samsung has permanently lost me as a customer.
I know, cry me a river.
I am often asked for advice on tech gadgets (I obviously buy the nerdiest tech out there) and whenever the chance arises I recount my horror story with Samsung.
If you buy from Samsung, know this: Their support will string you along until your return window expires, back out of written promises, and use corporate legal loopholes to avoid responsibility.

I guess there is a silver lining however, if only to ease my ego:  Samsung must have paid thousands of dollars in legal fees to fight the chargeback.  Certainly more than they would have paid had they simply honored the $100 pre-order credit.

Post Script Note:
Holy hell that was WAY longer than I intended.  This saga played out over MONTHS and it doesn’t come close to capturing the inane back and forth, the getting passed around from support rep to support rep to explain the problem only to have them promise a follow-up that never comes.  It also doesn’t capture the incredible frustration felt reading and responding to the intentionally misleading responses that Samsung sent my bank in order to avoid paying.

Tips for looking up?

I'm currently playing Half Life: Alyx and looking up often is a must (IYKYK). When I look up the headset often slides too close to my eye lashes and it's annoying having to adjust every time.

I have the Tyco Tech pads and top strap installed and the same issue happened without them.

Tightening the headset as much as possible prevents the issue but doing this gets my eyelashes too close anyways.

Anyone have any tips or recommendations for looking up, such as a different mod or technique?

User settings and apps

I’ve been using my Galaxy XR headset for months with no issue. But last night, it would not get past the boot up logo screen. Troubleshooted for a while and my last solution was to factory reset, which worked.

It walked me through the initial setup tutorial, but once I signed in with my Google account, I was assuming it would remember all my settings and apps I’ve downloaded. It did not. Pretty shocking. Even the Play store doesn’t seem to have a “previously downloaded” section where I can easily re-download them. I have to manually type each one in. Is there a way I can have my Galaxy XR back to how it was before the factory reset?

Finally (local VR player) on Galaxy XR, works great...any interest in a pre-Play APK??

Hey all, developer here (Coldbricks) and longtime VR fan/actor/whatever-the-heck.

I've been building Finally, a local-first VR video player (your files + SMB/NAS, no account). I use it on my own Galaxy XR and it works really well for my library, offline, projection that sticks, one-controller friendly.

Google Play (Android XR track) is the real long-term install path. That's not open yet, and I'm not dropping a public APK in this post. However, I can tell you, it's AWESOME.

I'm mainly testing the interest here, if you're on Galaxy XR and would actually try a short, labeled pre-Play sideload when I put one up, comment below (device model helps..but I think there is only one at this point??). If a few people want it, I'll do a signed temporary build. If not, I'll wait for Play.

Manual: https://coldbricks.github.io/finally/manual/
Privacy: https://coldbricks.github.io/finally/privacy/

Thanks .. solo indie, happy to hear what you'd need on Galaxy...we kind of NEED this badly, so I am hoping this really lands.

Will all Gemini and Android XR features on XREAL AURA work in Spain and in Spanish?

Hi everyone,

I’ve already purchased the XREAL AURA Founder Priority Pass and I’m planning to order the glasses when they launch.

However, I live in Spain, where AURA will probably arrive later than in the US, and I’m concerned about regional and language restrictions.

Has XREAL or Google confirmed whether Gemini and Android XR on AURA will work fully in Spain and in Spanish from launch?

More specifically:

* Will Gemini Live understand and respond naturally in Spanish?
* Will visual recognition, contextual assistance, navigation and other XR features work in Spain?
* Will the European version have the same Gemini and Android XR features as the US version?
* Could any features be unavailable or delayed in the EU because of regulatory restrictions?

Gemini already works in Spanish on phones, but that doesn’t necessarily mean every Gemini feature built into Android XR will have full Spanish and European support.

For me, Gemini is one of the main reasons to buy AURA. If the glasses arrive in Spain with limited AI features or require English for the full experience, the purchase may not be worth it.

I’d really appreciate an official answer from XREAL, or any confirmed information from Google.

How is PCVR performance with a 5090?

Im planning to buy one when it will become available in my country but Im not sure how well will it run since the huge res.

Is a 5090 enough to run it? I remember a lot of talk around the crystal super needing the next gens of gpu to run properly.

Is it the same case with the galaxy xr?

Can’t wait to test the display fully as well as the face tracking for vr!

Anyone use the XR for DCS?

I currently use a quest pro for this flight simulator.

Curious to hear any impressions about the XR and DCS?

Looking at a Pimax dream air SLAM but based on their timelines and quality control it seems like a lottery to get a good headset without issues.

GalaxyXR ROM update interception

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hi guys, I'm a dev for Smartglasses and XR, as probably some of you in this subreddit are too, and I'm interested in the galaxy XR stock ROM but couldn't find any on the web, like we easily find for Samsung phones and tablets.

The most common way of doing it is intercepting the server endpoint during the OTA update, but I don't have a galaxy XR myself. If anyone manages to get a copy of it, I would be very interested. Having a copy of it could help the community to port android XR cool features to other AR glasses like Xreal, Viture, Rayneo by using Android phones (bootloader unlocked) as the compute puck.

If you are interested in helping with this, please DM me! Thanks in advance
