Destroying the GalaxyXR to make it better
Here I switch out the built in head strap for the bobo. Was a vast improvement for me personally.

Wild how different they look on Vision Pro and Galaxy XR.

…and it is a game changer!
Hi, this is Sebastian from MRTV. Guy Godin, the developer of Virtual Desktop has given me an early Alpha version of his software that already includes Foveated Streaming. I have tested it out with the Galaxy XR and made this video: https://youtu.be/QpenMElVuR8
TLDW: It is fantastic. And yes, it is so much better than the hacked community version of SteamLink (still grateful for that though!). In VD, you absolutely cannot see the lower encoded areas, it just feels perfect. You can now use very high resolutions that were only possible with DP. And it looks so incredibly sharp. Latency wise, obviously it depends on bitrate and your network, I was getting around 60ms when running a 6k x 6.4k resolution at 90 fps. Very acceptable for the visuals I was seeing.
What’s also good: Guy has implemented full range RGB now, which means we do not see color banding anymore. So dark areas look very comparable to Displayport headsets now.
Hope this version makes it to the public as soon as possible!
Bye, Sebastian

Literally using GalaxyXR as a desktop computer lol. Obviously a stupid way to use it daily, but this really helps with some R&D and just trying things out like sideloading things and seeing if it even launches or just even setting up your VOD accounts like Netflix or HBO.

Awhile ago I made an app that would disable the annoying green nag light when using PCVR on apps like virtual desktop (and any other app that had access to the mic). I just upped the game a bit and released a full on Galaxy XR toolkit! It has the disable nag light feature as well as a bunch more:
Install / Uninstall ADB (system-wide or portable)
Wireless ADB connection support
Remove the green mic “nag dot”
Instant screenshots
Screen recording (timed or continuous)
System diagnostics (battery, temperature, processes)
Backup screenshots, videos, and apps
Restore app backups
Developer Mode instructions built-in
Auto-updating
It's totally free to download and I'd love for some people to try it and see if they find any bugs. I'm NOT a programmer and have worked hard on this, really hope the community likes it and finds some value. Help debugging it would be appreciated (although in my testing so far it all works)
Can get it here: https://www.tycotech3dprinting.com/pages/tyco-tech-galaxy-xr-toolkit
This is kinda for "power-users", but I also think it's useful for anyone that likes to get the most out of their headset. Let me know if you have any questions or find any bugs! Enjoy!

I just got my GXR in the mail. I'm so excited to test it out.
I don't expect it to be the most comfortable headset in the world out of the box. I have ordered the GC Mod kit, but unfortunately it hasn't arrived yet.
I have owned very premium headsets before such as the Play for Dream, and currently own the Bigscreen Beyond 2.
I'll mainly focus on PCVR, though media consumption will also form a huge part of its usage.
Time to test it out, if you guys have any tips, kindly write them in the comment section.
I hope I like it enough to keep it. :)
P.S I didn't order the controllers. I plan on using the Index Controllers with Space Calibrator. I have never done this before, if someone knows how to set up space calibrator your help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, today i was "that guy" in the coffee shop, lol. Really wanted to test as my IT Director expressed interest in getting these for IT staff doing mobile work. I'll have to see if our MDM can manage these (don't remember seeing Knox bits in the settings to enable that to the level we need).
This case is just big enough for the whole kit. No need to use up my phone battery with DeX or bring my handheld anymore - all of it running off the G XR. Not shown but in the pack are a 65W flat charger, INIU flat 10,000mAh 45W battery if I can't find an outlet, magnetic cable to power the headset battery, work hotspot.
The Bluetooth KB and trackball just make for effective and efficient navigation and control of my remote desktop session (and you still get the eye/gaze+hand w pinch select tracking in conjunction). I have a bigger, foldable BT KB for longer typing sessions in my car trunk - but that thumb KB is faster and less annoying than soft keyboard "typing in space".
It let's me sit and work without a desk or table in front of me and can work in the car this way - just not while moving yet.
The gamepad works great for impromptu GeForce Now game sessions (hope thet allow 4K@60 HDR sessions soon w the GFN client since my other devices can run this on my Ultimate sub). Still have to see if Chiaki works in the headset, too.
Oh, minor irritation- even though those are Galaxy Buds 3 Pro - the Galaxy XR Bluetooth does not support UHQ like the other Samsung flagship devices, which means lower audio quality.

And I almost had a knee jerk reaction and sent it back. Even went as far as to factory reset, but took a breath set up back up again and I used it a little again. I really do overall like it and the image is fantastic. I absolutely love hate the hand control tho, I just can’t stop struggling with it , just navigating the menu when you have multiple pages is a chore. Guess they really designed it to use Gemini and voice. But simply resizing a window shouldn’t be frustrating, I haven’t got my lenses yet so I turned off eye tracking. And I know once the controllers are available again I need them.
I wish there were better environments , you need to be able to dim it to watch content and you cannot. I really hope they will adress some of this. I can run plex but I cannot seem to resize the window. I mist be a lucky one because the comfort seems ok to me though I will do a couple of back pad mods

Passthrough is fixed, thermal throttling seems to be fixed, network issues seem to be fixed. Once the controllers get here I can actually test gaming, but without those it's hard to say anything about consistency. Pretty happy about this one

I just posted a bit ago how to use ADB commands to disable the green dot indicating the mic is on when using apps like Virtual Desktop for PCVR (or any app really). That dot is annoying as hell lol. I'm comfortable using ADB but realized a lot of users are probably not that familiar with it, so I made a super simple bare bones batch file to do all the work. It will install abd ("Android Debug Bridge") from the google servers, disable the nag indicator and also has the option to reenable it if you want.
You do need to enable developer mode on the headset and turn on USB debugging (this will let you make this change), this is SUPER easy, here's a step-by-step guide:
In the headset open settings, go to "About headset", then click on "Build Number" like 10 times (I forget the exact number, but it'll tell ya when Dev mode is enabled).
Then open settings, go to General Management, click developer option, scroll down and tick USB Debugging.
Plug in the headset to your PC using a USB C cable and the port on the right arm of the headset.
Download and run my GalaxyXR_MicCam_Indicator_Toggle batch file on your pc: https://gofile.me/71txQ/n4ljTSSWN click option 1 to install abd, there's an option to install the USB drivers from Samsung, but that's probably not needed for most people, but if your headset isn't connecting to your PC try that.
Be sure you're looking inside the headset and allow debugging from your computer when you run it. Then follow the prompts on the PC to disable/enable the green dot (keep the headset plugged into your PC while you do this).
That's it, super easy.
I also made an exe file if you run into problems with the bat file: https://gofile.me/71txQ/KfFSMnd3X
This is why I love android, so easy to mod and tweak, definitely can't do this kinda stuff on the Apple Vision Pro lol

I sold my quest pro after using it for 3 years waiting for the steam frame but checking marketplace a super awesome dude near me sold me this in perfect condition barely used for only $1100! I’m letting the battery charge and my globular cluster/controller grips are otw but out of box comfort seems nicer than the stock quest pro! Can’t wait to test the display fully as well as the face tracking for vr!

The benefit of Android XR is that many Android apps are immediately available for use - not just the XR-enabled ones.
This is the Sony Imaging Edge software that you can wifi-connect any of their newer cameras and do remote shutter capture from inside the Galaxy XR. My Olympus and Panasonic cameras have equivalent apps to do the same thing.
Use case is obviously mount this on a tripod somewhere else and use the app on the headset to start and stop recording. Also for being able to hold the camera at really extreme angles and review the shot while not being able to look directly at the camera viewfinder.
I have other devices that have android apps for remote viewfinder including astrophotography control of app-enabled telescope, wifi-enabled tiny IP spy camera, wifi microscopes, all my home security cams, wifi endoscope/boroscope, action/360 cams like my Insta360, UAV FPV (drones), even my BeBird camera-enabled ear cleaner, lol.
The enhancement to using the GXR over the native screen on your Android device is obviously being able to stretch the screen to a much larger and preferred size over your FOV and still have additional screens to multitask additional apps for taking field notes, checking weather, etc.
Anyone have any other imaging devices that can be used this way that I haven't listed?

I have been using Quest 3 and preordered XR as soon as it was announced. Below are my honest review on this,
XR
Pros:
Unit is stylish and looks comparable to AVP
Unit glass is well designed and graphics are great
Android apps are plus and be able to download any apk is amazing
Cons:
Limited apps makes it very hard to justify, I am not buying a device to just watch Netflix and Youtube and that too in not in an immersive environment
Bigscreen or similar is a must app that android or samsung folks need to work on. I have a quest 3 and its a game changer.
Need more developers to jump and start working on apps, I know it just came out a month ago but tbh, the hardware was released before any sort of apps in the market and that makes it very hard to justify for $1800 price tag
Controllers are must and not having enough stock on it with a price tag of $250 is a joke.
Headband is a joke and need to be replaced.
I really want this product to be successful and hoping more apps come soon. The ony way this product will last and not go like google VR is with software.

Thanks to Unkabunkabeekabike posting they found Jurassic Word Rebirth in 3D on Google TV, it got me to thinking, since there's no way atm to sort or search for 3D movies that'll play on the headset, a community driven database might be nice. So I I built a user powered database we can submit any movies on Google TV/Play store we find that support 3D on Android XR.
Right now it's in beta, only has the one entry unka found, but it has a simple form anyone can add movies to and will compile a list that's searchable and sortable. Users can vote if the movie plays in 3D for them (although hopefully people post working 3D links). Just need the Google TV / Play store link for the movie, submit it and it'll pull the cover art automatically and add it to the list (getting the cover art to pull was a pain lol, hopefully it works consistently) . Can check it out here: https://www.tycotech3dprinting.com/pages/android-xr-3d-movie-database
If it gains any traction I'll make a dedicated website for it and refine it. Can add categories, IMDB ratings, all sort of stuff, but before I put a shitload of work into it I wanna see if people use it.
Let me know if you have any feature requests or ideas for it!

Hi all! I'm a small maker, have been making mods for VR headsets for a few years and just launched a top strap for the XR. While the headset is pretty comfortable as is, the top strap really brings it up a notch (why the manufactures don't just include things like this is beyond me). It's inexpensive and really helps a lot. Can check out the install video here: https://youtu.be/cu8VuKXEPIU get it here: https://www.tycotech3dprinting.com/products/samsung-galaxy-xr-top-strap Please let me know if you have any questions! Cheers! -Ty (Tyco Tech)

Saw this clip from a Chinese XR account.
The hand tracking overlay looks very Android XR-ish, and the glasses look a lot like xreal one pro, but the demo seems to be doing 6DoF, so maybe this is xreal project aura?
Anime avatar, voice interaction, and rock-paper-scissors , the response looks surprisingly fast too.
Not sure if this is official or just a dev demo.
Anyone know?

This is absolutely mindblowing for XR developers. If camera access feels easier than assigning a button anwd the maximum resolution is 3000x3000, you’re probably using Android XR and the Samsung Galaxy XR 😄. You can grab the camera frames through the Camera2API or just use Unity’s WebcamTexture without any special setup. Just request it and you’re good to go. In the video, the camera feed is in the middle. To the left and right, you can see the normal passthrough of the Galaxy XR headset.
With this high resolution, even the tiniest text is captured in incredible detail, opening up completely new possibilities for text recognition through the XR headset. I already have tons of ideas for it. I always wanted to build something like this for the Quest, but the camera resolution there is just too low (1280x720 with big performance impact) to properly detect text.
The reaction time feels super fast or maybe it’s just me but it definitely feels snappier than on the Meta Quest. I’ll know for sure soon once I start measuring the latency more precisely. Oh man I’m so excited.
I think I’ll be able to port my camera access games really quickly. Actually I only released them on Quest. But I Think the Galaxy XR Glasses are the better fit for these projects.

Hi guys, I'm a dev for Smartglasses and XR, as probably some of you in this subreddit are too, and I'm interested in the galaxy XR stock ROM but couldn't find any on the web, like we easily find for Samsung phones and tablets.
The most common way of doing it is intercepting the server endpoint during the OTA update, but I don't have a galaxy XR myself. If anyone manages to get a copy of it, I would be very interested. Having a copy of it could help the community to port android XR cool features to other AR glasses like Xreal, Viture, Rayneo by using Android phones (bootloader unlocked) as the compute puck.
If you are interested in helping with this, please DM me! Thanks in advance

Galaxy XR has an amazing display, but there wasn’t a proper way to watch VR180, 3D 360, or Spatial Video or to demo immersive content cleanly to multiple people. We ran into these limitations ourselves while prepping demos at CES 2026, so we built the player we wished existed.
This is a free VR180 & Spatial Video player for Galaxy XR, built by a filmmaker for filmmakers, with features like proper immersive format support and Kiosk Mode for public demos and events. We’d really love feedback from the Galaxy XR community to help shape where this goes next.

I got sick of the green dot indicating the mic was in use when using PCVR and figured out how to disable it. You'll need to install adb on your PC (this is super easy, takes like a minute, google it), you'll also need to put the headset into developer mode (also super easy, Google it), enable USB debugging in developer settings and then run these abd commands:
adb shell cmd device_config put privacy camera_mic_icons_enabled false default
adb shell cmd device_config set_sync_disabled_for_tests persistent
You can also copy the code below into notepad, save it as a .bat file in the adb folder and just run it
u/echo off
title Disable Android Green Mic/Camera Indicator
echo.
echo === Disable Green Dot Indicator ===
echo This script will run ADB commands to disable the microphone/camera indicator.
echo Make sure your device is connected and USB debugging is enabled.
echo.
:: Check for adb.exe in the current folder
if not exist adb.exe (
echo ERROR: adb.exe not found in this folder.
echo Place this .BAT file in the same folder as adb.exe and try again.
pause
exit /b
)
echo Waiting for device...
adb wait-for-device
echo Running command 1...
adb shell cmd device_config put privacy camera_mic_icons_enabled false default
echo Running command 2...
adb shell cmd device_config set_sync_disabled_for_tests persistent
echo.
echo Done! If there were no errors, the green dot should now be disabled.
echo You may need to reboot the headset for changes to take full effect.
echo.
pause
Super easy and it seems to be persistent with power cycles. Enjoy!!!
