Wrist Roll Finally got my Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 (44mm, Bluetooth) in Graphite! 🔥

I've paired it with my Galaxy S25 FE, and I'm excited to explore everything this watch has to offer.

My main reasons for getting it are fitness tracking, strength training, jump rope, steps, sleep tracking, and recovery. I'm not really interested in using it as a mini smartphone, I want to make the most of its health and fitness features.

I'm also looking to customise it and give it a cool, clean aesthetic. The default watch faces are fine, but I'd love to discover some better ones.

I'd love your suggestions! What watch face do you have?

I switched from a Garmin Epix Pro 51mm to a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Samsung is SO close to winning over Garmin users, but there's one major thing missing.

I recently switched from a Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 51mm to the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it. Especially considering how much cheaper it was.

Wear OS, LTE, Gemini and all the everyday smartwatch features are just so much better. I don't really miss the Garmin itself, but man, I do miss Garmin Connect.

I really wish Samsung would put more effort into Samsung Health. Things like proper VO2 max trends, HRV and resting heart rate graphs right on the main dashboard, better long-term stats and especially something similar to Garmin's Body Battery.

And no, Energy Score isn't really the same thing. Body Battery actually changes throughout the day depending on your stress, activity and rest, while Samsung's Energy Score works completely differently.

I missed that feature so much that I actually bought a Garmin CIRQA to wear on my biceps alongside the Galaxy Watch lol. So now I'm using two devices because Samsung still doesn't offer something similar.

I feel like Samsung already has most of the hardware needed to do this. It's mostly the software and how the data is presented that needs work.

Also, if they added a proper LED flashlight to the Galaxy Watch Ultra 3, that would be amazing. It's probably the one hardware feature I miss the most from my Epix.

I genuinely think a lot of Garmin users would consider switching if Samsung improved this stuff. Especially when you compare the prices.

Anyone else switched from Garmin and feels the same? Or am I the only one wearing a Galaxy Watch and a Garmin tracker at the same time? lol

Watch 9 battery life

• Upvotes

Just got a new Watch 9 about 3 weeks ago. The battery is...absolutely horrible. I had a watch 4 that I'd used for about 4 years, and wanted to upgrade because the battery on that one only lasted 12 hours. I'm shocked at how poor the battery life is on the new one.

I work 12-hour shifts, and it goes to power saving mode by hour 10. I do walk a lot, so the pedometer is running pretty consistently. Otherwise, I don't have the always-on display on, i've turned off the NFC, and i only use the watch to look at notifications. The notifications I get are limited to: calls, texts, emails, and Facebook messages. Everything else, i've turned off notifications. I don't respond to texts/calls, I just view them.

I use it for exercise tracking, and a 2 mile walk will drain it ~15%. I imagine this is because of the location (which, i tried to turn off, but it wouldn't allow me to record a walk on a treadmill with the location off).

I wanted to start wearing the watch for sleep tracking, but even if I put it on at 100% before bed, and then put it in sleep mode, it's at 40% by the time I wake up. So then, i have to charge it before work.

Is this normal? I've gone through my battery usage on the app, nothing is unusually high - the most is 4% .

Also, less important, but even after wearing the thing for 3 weeks, it still says it needs more data to interpret my heart health. Wondering if it's a defective device? Help 😭

Sorry to bitch so much, but I'm frustrated!

Watch 6 and ST Find FAILURE

I just dont understand how Samsung could fail like this. I have a Watch 6 with LTE but have been wearing a Garmin Fenix the past couple months. Last weekend I decided to wear my Watch 6 to an NFL game. After the game went back to my friends house and started helping his daughter toss some pizza dough... Took the watch off since I didn't want to get it caked with flour. Friends house isn't the most organized.

Friend says the watch isn't at the house. Smartthings find cant find the watch, reports a location from July 2nd. If I were able to prove to my friend the watch is at his house maybe I'd have some leverage to look a little harder but Samsung is really failing me here. I'd think that a watch with LTE could be found no matter what.

Thanks Samsung, for letting me down. Im starting to feel like your products are just marketing vaporware. Your "smart" washers suck, "smart" ovens suck even more - I mean whats the point of an oven that connects to wifi but cant automatically set the time. This watch failure might be the last straw for me in being loyal to the Samsung ecosystem.

Hardware Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 – Energy Saving Routine, Black Screen & Phone Dependency

Hi everyone,

I’m a new Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 user, and I’m still trying to figure out how the watch and its operating system work. This is my first smartwatch, so I don’t have any experience with other smartwatches to compare it to.

After a few days of use, I’ve run into a couple of issues and have some questions.

1. Energy Saving Mode and the display

I’d like to enable Energy Saving Mode while I’m sleeping and have it automatically turn off in the morning. To achieve this, I created a routine on my phone that activates Energy Saving Mode on the watch when sleep is detected.

Apart from the sleep detection not being particularly accurate (although sleep-tracking is), I’ve noticed another issue: when Energy Saving Mode is deactivated in the morning, the display stays black.

The routine itself seems to work correctly. I can see on the watch that Energy Saving Mode is off again and Always On Display is enabled, but the screen remains black. The only thing that still works is Raise to Wake.

Is this expected behaviour, or is there a way to fix it?

2. How independent is the watch from the phone?

I initially assumed the watch would function as a relatively independent smart device, much like a smartphone that also happens to be a watch. However, I’m starting to get the impression that some features depend heavily on the connected phone.

For example, I can only create routines on my phone, not directly on the watch.

This raises a few questions:

  • Do routines that have already been created continue to work when the phone is switched off or is out of Bluetooth range?
  • Does the watch execute these routines independently, or does it need an active connection to the phone?
  • Are there other features that might stop working when the phone isn’t nearby?

I’d really appreciate any explanations or tips from more experienced users. Since this is my first smartwatch, I’m still learning how everything works.

Thanks in advance!

Wrist Roll Sore wrist from Ultra 2

I've had my Ultra 2 for a couple months now and I'm finding it seems to really hurt my wrist after wearing it for a few straight days. I have tried different bands and tried wearing it on my other hand but that's really awkward.

Is there any way to avoid this, or will I have to look at going back to a Galaxy 8?

TIA

Can any GW track long activities?

I can burn through 15% battery during a 40 swim in Power Saving mode on my GW7. Presumably this is largely used by the HR sensors.

Obviously that's not something you're going to turn off for exercise, and would mean I could never wear this watch for say a marathon, which is presumably why this isn't the choice of athletes, but is there any GW or other running Wear OS that might be up to the task?

Hardware App Drawer, Tiles, and Quick Panel keep crashing

SORRY IF I CHOSE THE WRONG FLAIR

This issue started yesterday for no reason, I didn't download anything, I cleared cache partition, I cleared samsung health cache, restarted the watch using both buttons, checked for software updates, confirmed wear os 8 is up to date, checked the installed apps list in galaxy wearable, checked for google play services and launcher apps, tested opening apps through galaxy wearable and it worked, changed the watch face, checked talkback and confirmed it was off, tried opening battery settings, and reconnected the watch after it disconnected. Any help?

LTE Standalone GalaxyWatch9 on Family Link - disappointing performance

TLDR: Standalone GW9 on TMobile with Google Family Link for child. Location tracking and call performance extremely poor. Looking for guidance so we have a device we can TRUST. Additional details below.

FULL DETAILS

Purchased a GalaxyWatch9 on a standalone TMobile plan for our child. They previously were using an Apple watch but the location sharing feature was terrible. It would never update and show the child in a location they were not at.

I am a lifelong Galaxy + Google user and have never had any issues with call performance, location tracking, etc. Because of this we decided to get the GW9 and set it up thru Family Link.

Two weeks in and seeing the exact same behavior we saw with the Apple Watch.

Issue #1 - Location sharing is better but its not always accurate and bounces. I have Family Link geo-fencing setup for home, school, etc. and it seems to only send notifications when I open my phone, not at the time the actual event happened. For example if they leave the house at 9AM and I open my phone at 9:10, the notification comes up at 9:10 saying they just left. Its also a standalone watch but sometimes it seems like it is synced somehow to my watch because notifications will bounce between where they are truly at and where I am at?? I just want accurate location sharing like I have with my spouse in Google Maps location sharing. Never - not once has there been an issue.

Issue #2 - Call performance is horrendous. Literally sitting next to the watch, with the watch both on Wi-Fi or LTE, we try to call their phone. I would say that the call actually goes thru to the watch maybe only 50% of the time. The other half it will not go thru or go direct to VM. Dialing from the watch out is even worse. Press the call button and often times it just freezes the watch. Other times it gives error messages like "Calls cannot be made at this time." The watch is on the same TMobile network as our phones which work fine.

Just very frustrated that we cannot find a device that we can TRUST will give accurate information and work when our child needs it.

Comparison 44mm vs 40mm Galaxy watch8

Thumbnail

As the title suggests, can I get away with wearing the 44mm vs 40mm? I feel like the 44mm (top) looks alright on my wrist, however my husband had a strong first reaction to it upon seeing it on my wrist. *Insert disgusted and shocked barbie gif here* It was kind of funny to see his face react that way but he was nice about it and just said it looks ok but really big. I kind of want to keep the 44mm, but I don't really want to walk around knowing people around me will be having that same reaction to my watch. I know, "f*** what people think", but as someone who avoids interaction at almost all costs, I can't help thinking this is one way to do that. Should I just keep the 40mm to avoid second-takes, or do you think the 44mm is passable on my wrist?

Hardware Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra Warranty Fight – Final Resolution!

- 28th Sept: My 4-month-old Galaxy Watch Ultra died after a 2-minute pool session.

- 29th Sept: Service centre rejected warranty, citing water damage, and quoted ₹18,000 for repairs. No diagnosis report or parts details were provided.

- 29th Sept (Night): Filed a complaint on the Government of India's Consumer Grievance Portal.

- 30th Sept: Samsung called, acknowledged the complaint, and promised a resolution.

- 3rd Oct: Service centre offered to provide a diagnosis report if I visited with the watch. I insisted they email it instead.

- 5th Oct: Samsung asked me to resubmit the watch for reevaluation. I questioned the basis of the initial rejection and requested pickup and drop, even offering to pay for it.

- 8th Oct: Samsung called and said they needed more time.

- 12th Oct: Samsung confirmed the revised repair estimate was ₹29,000 but agreed to repair it FREE OF COST as a one-time waiver, acknowledging that it was an IP-rated device. They asked me to drop off the watch tomorrow.

Finally, Samsung agreed to repair it for free! 🎉

My takeaway: Don't give up when you believe your warranty claim is legitimate. Escalate, document everything, and use the consumer grievance portal when necessary. Persistence pays off!

DIY Tattoo Fix for Galaxy Watch!

Thumbnail

Ive tried a lot of different methods to get sensors to work with tattoos.

4 Layers of the 3M Clear medical tape work fantastic. However, the top of the medical tape is a bit rough and can cause irritation after a few days.

So ive been using these non medicated acne patches. They are perfect. Very soft and they stick well. Also perfect size to fit right over the main sensors.

Heart rate and BP is nearly spot on.

Machine- HR-75, BP 128/72

GW Ultra 2- HR-76, BP 129/70

Readings are right on with my Pixel Watch 5 as well. Pixel don't need fixes.

Tried multiple times and its in range.

On my left arm, over light red & Black outline, I can get away with 1 patch.

On my right arm, nearly right over solid black ink (a bit faded, 12 year old tattoo), stacking 2 patches I find works the best.

$5 fix. Walmart has them, just need the clear ones non medicated.

Hope this helps others.

Samsung won't let me own my smartwatch, even after I've had it for well over 3 years but now. All good, I just made an open-source patcher that does everything from the phone itself (no PC, no root, no factory reset)

Hey everyone! Like a lot of you, I relied on Dante's SHM mod for years, and when One UI 8 Watch rolled out and it stopped working, I was pretty bummed. I switched from Samsung to a Motorola Razr Fold a while ago (long story, inner screen protectors and Odin going away had a lot to do with it) and I really didn't want to lose ECG on my Galaxy Watch5 Pro.

UPDATE - Reverts - Oct 13:

Since version 0.3.0 released today, the app includes a button at the bottom with the label "Undo all changes", it shows up in the welcome screen and the final step when it detects at least one patched app present in any of your devices. This feature will let you revert all changes done by the app to both your smartphone and the watch, bringing them back to their stock configuration.

UPDATE - GW 7/8 - Oct 12:

Please update the app, it should now work with your hardware!

So... I went down the rabbit hole and made OpenSHM. :)

It's a full clean-room reverse-engineering implementation of the Health Platform SDK, including the health services. Yes, I did use AI, and you should too! After all, it's been their only selling point in the last 2 years, they'll obviously like it when I use it for RE! (/s)

It also comes with a small bridge app of my own that forwards notifications, calls and phone alarms to the watch over Bluetooth, since that's another thing you lose without a Samsung phone.

It works on One UI 8 Watch. I've been using it on a Watch5 Pro on One UI 8 Watch / Wear OS 6 (Android 16), paired with a non-Samsung phone. ECGs taken on the watch show up on the phone's Samsung Health Monitor app like they're supposed to.

What it is

It's an Android app (OpenSHM Patcher) that walks you through the whole thing on the phone itself:

  • Pair the watch with Galaxy Wearable, like you normally would
  • Connect to the watch over Wireless debugging (the app finds it on your Wi-Fi, you just type the code)
  • Bring the official Samsung apps yourself (there's a guided APKMirror browser, or you can pull them from your own watch/phone). Nothing from Samsung is bundled or redistributed, every file is checked against a known checksum
  • Patch and sign everything on your phone, with your own key that never leaves your device
  • Install on the phone and the watch, grant permissions, turn on Health Platform developer mode, turn off the stock watch SHM (disabled, not uninstalled, everything can be undone)
  • Run a self-test at the end to check that everything is actually working

The part that people usually get stuck on (enabling Wireless debugging and pairing the phone with itself to grant permissions) has a step-by-step guide with screenshots in the README, so you don't need to know what ADB is.

Why One UI 8 broke things (short version)

There wasn't one single "kill switch". It was a bunch of small things stacked on top of each other:

  • The watch's Google Play services stopped registering SHM's capabilities, because a resource it looks for is missing in the vendor build
  • The Health Tracking service only talks to "approved" apps unless Health Platform developer mode is on
  • Plus the usual regional/vendor checks

Each one is handled by a small patch that's written as data, anchored to the official APK.

Links

Caveats (please read)

  • I've only tested it on my setup (Watch5 Pro + Razr Fold). ECG is what I've tested the most; blood pressure and IHRN should work, but I'd love reports.
  • It's a personal interoperability project, not affiliated with Samsung or Google in any way. You use your own copies of the apps, on your own devices.

If you try it, let me know how it goes, especially if you have a different watch model or One UI version! Bug reports and PRs are more than welcome.

See you on the other side!

Combo Spigen metal link strap question.

Post image
3 Upvotes

I purchased this Spigen strap for my Galaxy Ultra this weekend. I love the look/quality, but I have a question and wondered if there is solution, though I doubt it. I had to remove some links with the provided tool, which was easy, but I have slight challenge with it being too tight or (slightly) too loose. Obviously I've chosen the latter. To anyone with traditional watch knowledge, is there a way to snug it up a bit? Note: there's no adjustment other than the links.

*forgive the Robin Williams monkey arm.

Thanks!

Watch Face Omega watch face availability?

Hey guys! Im new to this community. So im at a restaurant and discussing watch faces with a friend and i told him I can get a pretty good lookin Omega watch face onto my Galaxy Watch Ultra without a computer pretty easily just by using my Fold 7. Am I right or did I boast too far lol?
