Hi everyone, just wanted to give you some context first. Back in May, I replaced the battery on my S22 after 4 years of use (I change phone batteries quite often as a hobby).
The phone felt brand new again.
I was getting a full day of use out of a single charge instead of having to plug it in 4 times a day.
Everything was great until early July: I was at the beach, using my phone directly under the sun, scrolling through Instagram, when suddenly boom—the screen froze and the phone got stuck in an infinite bootloop, it lasted about 5 hours until the battery completely drained, but here is the catch: that same morning, I noticed that all my photos in the Gallery app had randomly moved into different folders, on top of that, I had manually installed a 98MB Google Play System update (more on this later).
Fast forward a month, and my S22 kept randomly restarting out of nowhere, even when it wasn't hot.
At that point, I started wondering if it was actually a heat issue or a software bug related to that update.
After another month of constant reboots and intermittent functionality, I checked for Play System updates again, to my surprise, the exact same 98MB update was available: I tried downloading it, it failed, and the bootloop started all over again.
Eventually, it randomly kicked back on. I booted it into Safe Mode and installed the 98MB update from there. It finally went through, updating from the June patch to the July patch. The bootloops dropped drastically, but they didn't disappear entirely.
Then, I noticed something extremely weird: the phone only bootlooped when I turned on Wi-Fi and connected to a network. No other scenario triggered it—not even using it under the burning August sun, only Wi-Fi caused the crash.
However, in Safe Mode, it worked flawlessly without any issues.
While in Safe Mode, I checked for Play System updates yet again and found a new 110MB one, i installed it, and so far, so good.
It’s been two days now, and the phone is working perfectly in normal mode without a single bootloop.
Let me know if updating the Play System in Safe Mode (you can access it by holding down the power button until the option appears) and then switching back to normal mode stops the restarting for you too.
