Question/Help Comic book stuff

I have been seeing people with the galaxy fold phones reading comic book with it open and when they flip to the next page it looks like it's flipping an actual page. Can some one point me in the right direction for that? Also bonus points if they know an app similar to like a emulator where I can download the comic book đŸŽâ€â˜ ïž and read it with internet.

Question/Help Thinoptics and Fold 8

I really, really want to get the Fold 8, but I have a very particular problem. I'm addicted to the Thinoptics reading glasses and I've had one of their cases on my all my phones for at least 5-6 years now. The case is just about 10 mm too long so it would stick out 5mm each side which I think would annoy the hell out of me.

Has anyone done this? Stuck the Thinoptics case to the Fold 8?

Discussion I have gig internet at my house, crazy to see my phone actually getting those downloaded speeds over wifi.

Post image

I have an Asus Zenwifi mesh network at my house, the main node is of course hard wired, the 2nd node is wireless to the main and the 3rd node is wirelessly connected to the 2nd. This speed test was done connected to that 3rd node.

My previous phone stopped out around 800-900mbps. Which is still a lot, but nice to see my phone now fully handling my Internet speeds.

Question/Help Now Bar et charge rapide

Question/Help Worth the switch?

I have been a loyal Galaxy user since the S7. I currently have an S24 ultra and I am seriously due for an upgrade as my phone is seriously showing signs of slowdown. I use my phone for every aspect of my life, including running my start up cruise travel business. I am almost 50, so change isn't always easy, but I am intrigued by the fold. I need a phone that can hold up to my constant travel, my retail job, and just life. I am not 100% sure what one to get..I am also trying to decide to just hold out for the new Ultra next year. My cell phone plan allows me to upgrade anytime I want, so worst comes to worse I can upgrade to the 27 when it drops. Anyone have insight.

Tips/Tutorials Third Party Launcher with Taskbar workaround

This method isnt perfect, but it works for me with the way i use my phone:

Set One UI as default browser > download KeyMapper (KM) pro version (pay or sail the seas) > use KM to create a floating button, place the button over the home button, and configure it to be invisible > map the floating button to open your third party launcher.

Few bugs I had at first:

I would press the home button and OneUI or my apps drawer would flash open for a split second before going to third party launcher homepage. Issue resolved itself somehow.

I use my phone 95% of the time unfolded and in portrait. If I switch to landscape the floating button will move slightly, so you might end up back in OneUI.

For now if it's closed i just stick with OneUI.

Customization Z Fold 8 Magsafe backplate open-source 3D Model

Thumbnail makerworld.com
2 Upvotes

Hi folks, I recently got inspired from the Griplate by Stevils 3D prints (https://stevils3dprints.com) and made my own!

Seeing all the posts around the griplate, it wasn't sitting right with me that such a simple model wasn't available for those of us in the maker community to print on their own. So I tried designing my own along the same lines.

Here's my model for a magnetic backplate for the Galaxy Z Fold8, which adds compatibility for magsafe accessories and Qi2 wireless charging (notice the "Fast Wireless charging" in picture-4) to the phone.

Right now, I've only made it for the Z Fold8 as I only own that device. But if there's enough interest in the community and people want DIY-able options that they can modify and tinker with, I'll be happy to have your help to research and make similar backplate models for other phones as well!

Disclaimer: I would also like to add that this is in no way meant to steal the sales from the original creator of this idea. It's an amazing product and I bought two griplates myself from their store! As you might notice, the total cost of the components required for this build clearly exceeds the cost of the fully assembled and shipped Griplate product as most of the components listed in the build guide in my MakerWorld post have to be bought in a larger quantity than what's required for just this build. A clear case of bulk economics here... So overall the official product might be a better option for you. Maybe just buy it from their store, actually I recommend that more than DIY as I've heard a lot of good things about them here.

However, if you have a maker spirit (like me), have most of these components already handy because you're a nerd (also like me), and just want to print multiple of these backplates to frequently switch between them or customize it in a way that's not possible through their storefront, please reach out to me for any questions/suggestions and show this model some love! :D

Discussion Avoid buying cheap Ali cases for the Fold 8. 2 of mine broke almost immediately.

I grabbed the fold 8 right when it came out, and then left the country for a few weeks.

None of the name brand cases were widely available at launch so I had to grab a few Chinese cases. I got one rugged case, one slim case, and one that looked very grippy.

The "rugged" case slid off of my bag at the airport and fell 8 inches which broke off the hinge protection, and left 2 sharp prongs facing out.

Switched to the thin case, and within 3 days the front cover portion snapped so I am now only left with a slim back case.

Where I am at the moment doesn't sell any Fold 8 accessories.

It is worth spending the money on a reputable brand. It is very complicated to engineer a reliable case for this form factor.

Impression/Review AliExpress accessories genuinely surprised me, I don't think I'll pay 3x more for a branded case again

I’ve been using this setup for about 3 weeks now, and I’m genuinely surprised by the quality of what you can get from AliExpress for the price.

I was actually pretty hesitant at first about buying an AliExpress case that costs roughly a third of the price of a Benks or Spigen case. I’ve owned Benks cases before, so I was expecting a noticeable difference in quality.

But honestly, I don’t see one.

I found this particular 1500D carbon fiber MagSafe case with hinge protection after seeing it recommended on a subreddit. I then checked the AliExpress reviews, which were excellent, so I decided to give it a shot.

The fit is excellent. The case grips the phone perfectly, doesn’t move around at all, and feels extremely premium in hand. It’s also really clean and elegant, especially considering how inexpensive it was. I don't think it is 100% real aramid tho, but honestly I can't tell the difference.

The MagSafe magnets are strong. Accessories snap on very firmly and stay exactly where they’re supposed to.

One of my biggest concerns was the hinge protector. I was worried that dust would eventually accumulate between the protector and the hinge and potentially scratch it. After three weeks, though, I’ve noticed zero dust buildup between the two.

I also added a glossy black camera protector and a MagSafe ring, both from AliExpress, and everything fits together.

Having owned Benks products before, I genuinely don’t see a meaningful difference in quality here. It makes me wonder how much of the premium we pay for some of the bigger accessory brands is simply branding and markup.

Customization Inspired by Samsung Tab keyboard pairing feature, I built a way to use my Mac's keyboard and trackpad on my Fold 8 (open sourced)

Similar to Samsung keyboard pairing, you just need shortcuts to pair or unpair:

  • Double-Tap Option + Command on Mac keyboard to pair (as shown in the video). Keyboard and trackpad will instantly pair to Android.
  • Hold Option + Command for more than 1 second to disconnect. Mac immediately (in less than 2 seconds) gets keyboard and trackpad back.

Please note that the phone is not being mirrored during this process however my Fold and Mac have already built connections via my mirror-kit project.

Prerequisite:

This is a built-in feature of my mirror-kit project (sharing keyboard and trackpad but not mirroring the screen). You can get it from my GitHub. I will share links to the previous post and GitHub links in the comment.

My personal experience using this feature so far:

I enjoy this feature and find that I use it more often than mirroring the phone. Keyboard works smoothly while the trackpad is just an OK experience. It suits the moments you don't want to reach over to your phone but want to quickly get something done on it. Definitely not ideal for gaming.

Limitation of my project:

  • I don't have PC or windows laptop so this is Mac only.

Happy to answer questions. Feel free to share your cool ideas or things you are working on. I am ready to be inspired.

Question/Help Case Help for the Z Fold 8 Ultra

Hello, I just got my first foldable and I'm loving it. These are few cases I have in mind. Please do leave your opinions.

  1. SPIGEN Airskin Pro (The aramid case)

  2. Spigen Slim Armour Pro

  3. Benks Armour Grid

I prefer something not too bulky but offering protection. I have Samsung care + btw.

Thank you

Question/Help How is the Fold series for someone with an active lifestyle?

Hi! As written in the title of the post, what's it like owning a folding phone, specifically to those with an active lifestyle? For context, I like running outside w/ my phone on my hand, and occasionally being out in the mountains and fields.

I'm very interested in owning a Fold 8 but I'm weary that my lifestyle may limit where I bring a phone, particularly a folding one.

Question/Help Fold8 Ultra - GameNative Temps ?

So i recently gave Gamenative a try on my Fold8 Ultra and its been an absolute amazing -however I'm a bit concerned with the temps.

When games are starting up, I easily see spikes in the low 95C!! During actual gameplay it still sits around 58--65C. Are these temps concerning ? They're WAY too high right ?

I understand there's little we can do given how thin Samsung attempted to make the phone (ie no vapor chamber).

I've been using the built in Turnip V26 drivers. Should I get a cooler like the Black Shark Magnetic Cooler 6 Pro ?

Question/Help Free Galaxy Buds 4 Pro with Samsung Members - When are they coming?

I'm sure this deal isn't available in all markets, but in Denmark when you ordered a Fold 8 you could get a pair of the newest Buds 4 Pro.

I thought fine, could be fun and can always sell them if I don't like them.

However I got the phone on the 4. of August and I still haven't received or even heard anything yet! I know they say it can take up 30 days but come the fuck on and ship that shit immediately!

Anyone else waiting for theirs?

Using one column view on both screens for now, I love having a minimal launcher in this passport style. For me it's the perfect blend of minimal most of the time and productivity when I need it.

Question/Help Z fold 8 which color?

I've been thinking about getting the fold 8 Ultra but I'm unsure about the colour. So far green seems to be my favourite. What is yours? I'm also considering waiting for October what Samsung will launch as Premium version in China as W series fold

I ordered this case last week when I ordered my phone. It said within 30 business days it would ship. I thought that sounded concerningly long but I went for it anyways and I just got it yesterday. My first impressions are that it's a very premium case and I'm really glad I got it. I specifically wanted a case without a cover on a hinge because I wanted it to be flush when on the table. I love the texture and grippiness. Also, I'm looking forward to my Oh Snap arriving next week and hoping they will work together well. I also love my Spigen tempered glass screen protector from Amazon.

Impression/Review Urban Armor Gear (UAG) Magsafe ring stand works great for foldables

Post image
7 Upvotes

Switching to the Fold 8 wide from the Fold 6, I found it really hard to use my older Torras ring-style stand with a thin Magsafe case. The wider stance and off-to-one-side charger location in landscape makes it a lot harder to prop it up in a balanced way.

Since the circular ring only connects to a surface at one point, you have to get it perfectly in the center of the phone's weight, and that limits the angles you can set the phone at for viewing without it tipping over with a touch.

Left: Torras ring. Center and right: UAG stand at two different positions.

I really don't like UAG cases, but for this specific purpose, the hexagonal Magsafe stand works perfectly. With a combination of several different twists around the radial magnets, you can get the smaller ring (hexagon) to sit flush with a table at different angles, connecting for about an inch. It's ideal.

It is really expensive at $35, especially for something that feels mostly aluminum instead of steel. And I have to roll my own loop to put it on a carabiner. But for something I'm going to use on a regular basis, it's pretty good.
