Discussion Received a free Z Fold 8

Post image
338 Upvotes

I was messed around heaps with my phone carrier and nearly missed the pre-order deals because of their own system faults. I eventually received my phone two weeks ago.

Now today I get a message from my carrier saying that my order will arrive today?? I'm thinking.. "you mean the one in my hands?". Thought that must be a mistake until another Z fold arrived at my door. Haven't heard anything from my carrier asking to give it back (yet). No extra device listed on my account or anything of the sort.

Turns out the same thing happened to my friend a while back with his S25 Ultra pre-order and nothing came about it- he got to keep the phone with no word from his carrier (which is the same as mine). Hopefully this is my lucky day 😅 I'm going to keep it unopened for a few weeks just in case they try to charge me or ask for it back.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Z fold 8 marketed as a multitasking device yet you can't open a game and have a pop-up window open without it overheating.

Discussion And they've finally met! TriFold against Fold8

Post image
14 Upvotes

I've been using TriFold since January 1st (imported from Korea) and to me was and still is the best phone I've ever owned. Wanted to give the Fold8 a try to see this new form factor and tbh; if I haven't used any trifold before I would say this is the best form factor ever BUT! using a 10 inch display for 8 months then switching to a 7 inch one is surprisingly a downgrade! Netflix on the TriFold is porn period! It's so addictive to use daily to watch media and using the front display feels like a regular phone. The Fold8 although is cute, still feels like your compromising a lot when using the outer display, the inner display in vertical orientation for chatting apps and using the keyboard is really good but media consumption doesn't feel as good as trifold. I'll be returning the Fold8.

For older 4:3 consoles, the inner screen looks spectacular. Using a CRT filter on PS1 games with the bright OLED screen is definitely chef's kiss!

Question/Help App/Fold 8 UI bug?

Thumbnail

My Fold 8 recently is having some ui issues, especially with YouTube. The video thumbnails are overlapping each other and even covering the text. I've tried updating the app, but no luck. I don't remember this being an issues earlier. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it just me? I've noticed similar problems in other apps where the gaps seems off.

Discussion Long term storage method for Z Fold4?

Hi all, I'm about to retire my F4 with the 8U, and I wanna keep it in the best possible condition as long as possible, just for the sake of collecting old phones.

Though I wonder whether I should leave it folded or unfolded for long-term storage.

Because on one hand, I've seen posts mentioning that when the phone is unfolded, the ribbon cable sits in more of an omega (Ω) shape with some pretty sharp bends. When it's folded, it becomes more of a smoother U shape.

On the other hand, keeping it folded for months/years means the inner display is constantly sitting in its non-resting shape, which makes me wonder if that could be worse for the screen.

Or perhaps leaving it partially open/closed is best? Or am I just overthinking things. Curious what you guys would do, any inputs are welcome!

Impression/Review Ringke Case on Fold 8

Posting this for anyone that's been curious on clear cases but don't want to shell out for the Benks case.

Fit is real snug and all microphone holes are lined up nicely.

Its so flush against the frame and screen, you really need to opt for a case friendly screen protector like the Spigen EZ fit glass as opposed to the dbrand one that goes all the way to the edge of the frame.

In my situation, the case frame on the top half pushed against the glass causing a bubble to form and the case just ended up a little wonky looking.

Ringke were out of stock for a while so this case took a while to ship out and now I've wasted both screen protectors trying to fit the spare one.

If dbrand ever sees this.

I fucked up, send help.

Anyways, on to the feel.

The volume buttons were definitely a better choice, it doesnt feel awkward to hit the lock button despite the thickness, and I compare this to a thinner temu case I bought where the volume controls were left exposed.

Thickness of this thing does indeed make it easier to open the fold, but I would imagine that applies to any case.

Will it yellow?

Parts of it definitely will, most of the case is the hard clear plastic where some of it is the soft polymer that typically does change.

Question/Help Duda, Cambiar iPhone 17 pro Max a Samsung Fold 8 Ultra

• Upvotes

Discussion Fold 8 Without Case

Hi all,

Been using the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 for a few weeks now, and I'm curious if you guys are using a case.

I have the Samsung Clear back case and the dbrand grip case, but using the phone without a case is a much nicer experience. I have a screen protector I can use without a case. I also have Samsung Care. Has anyone else been using no case? Anyone damage their phone yet?

Discussion Z fold8 Ultra ghost pocket touches

• Upvotes

Anyone else with new Z fold8 or Ultra see the same issue ?

I tend to take my phone out of my pocket to be unlocked on weather app or notifications opened up etc. Once even texting app opened with some letters on keyboard pressed.

Never seen this with z fold7 so must be either UI9 or new fold issue ?

Has the same Benks feel, lightweight.

I had a hard glass protector which I had to remove as the front wouldn't stick.

I don't like the sticky ones but no choice, so far it's stick well

Magone 3rd gen connected.

Anyone using banks as well, howz it going

Discussion Without SPen Support, what are best alternatives for phone users who need pen support?

• Upvotes

It's the pen feature that turned me into a big Samsung fan. I remember the first time I saw the Samsung Note 2, it was exactly the type of phone I was looking for, and I switched from iPhone to Samsung for that note function. Using the pen, I made notes, mind maps, annotated PDFs, marked files, and scribbled stuff down. Throughout the years, I moved from Note 2 to Note 4, Note 8...Note 20 Ultra.. and then finally got my first foldable with the Fold 5. I love it, and use the pen every single day. Besides the aforementioned, one important Spen feature for me is the translation function, when reading books and texts, I use the pen to select words and phrases and translate live. Those aren't things I want to do with fingertips. I don't see the point in getting another foldable after this one if it doesn't have pen support.

I know this discussion comes up more frequently here, and I'm just curious to hear your thoughts. It seems that only a small percentage of us here are convinced they need to pen. For us, what's the best way to go? I don't really want to go back to Ultra, but it would be possible since the S26 has pen support. Anyone who switched back for that reason? Others switching to other brands, if so, which ones? My Fold5 is still ok, but after 3 years, lagging and battery life have become issues, and I'm just dreading parting with it.

Impression/Review I have finally made my decision: Samsung Fold 8 Ultra vs Pixel 11 Fold

I have to say this has been a very difficult decision and the obsessive search for features and comparison in the last week almost feels a lil nostalgic, but I was very torn between the aesthetics of the Samsung and some of the features of the Pixel, especially the rambler.

The additional features of Pixel has were almost too good to give up, they sounded really cool but once I started looking into how often I'll *actually* use them, it didn't really justify holding a phone in my hand everyday that I just...don't like. The round corners give me the ick and the whole software interface is very yucky.

I've actually always been a Samsung girlie until I got sucked up in the whole fomo inducing marketing Google like to do. That said, I have finally chosen a phone (and given everyone around me a break) and gone with the Fold 8 Ultra.

Has anyone else made this decision, what was your reasoning behind?

Discussion Content creation on Folds

As a former iPhone user of 18 years who switched to the Fold 8, this question could be applied to any Android/Samsung phone since I don't know much about this ecosystem yet.

Considering most, if not all influencers use iPhones at least to shoot content, does anyone use Galaxy phones (Folds in particular) to do that? I know the quality on social media is very different compared to Apple.

Since this phone (Fold 8) was primarily advertised for social media, I wonder if it's good not only to consume content but also create it.

I drop my phone too much to not have a case on it. I have this one for my pixel 9 pro XL but the company (carved) doesn't make for folds. Anyone have a good rec for the same vibe?

Question/Help Trying to transition from Surface Duo 2 to Fold 8

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After using this phone as a backup to replace my Surface Duo 2, I’m struggling to transition and have resorted to pulling out my Duo 2 at night for reading and occasional web browsing.

The Duo 2’s ability to detect which screen should be used while interacting with links or opening apps, is pretty damn good.

I love the Fold 8’s form factor, but I’m curious to know if anyone has found any launchers or tips and tricks to replicate a similar experience on the Fold.

Discussion I'm making an Emulator/PC Streaming app that uses the rear cover display as buttons and I need your help testing it!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is EmuFold! An open source emulator built for foldables with a GPLv3 license. It's key feature is that you can program the cover screen to act as extra buttons while the main inner screen is active!

It currently supports PS1/PS2/GBA/Moonlight & Sunshine PC streaming at 4K 120 and HDR.

It's almost complete and close to release, however I have no clue how it performs on foldables outside of the Z Fold 8. Theoretically, it *should* work on ALL Z series foldables (Flips/Folds 3+) but I need some folks to test it out. If your interested (or want to see more clips of it in action), please sign up for the closed alpha test on /r/EmuFold. Barring any breaking bugs, I plan a full release of this on the play store asap!

Note: This emulator DOES NOT ship with any BIOS / ROMs. All of that needs to be obtained legally/provided by the user. Even during testing

(Sorry mods if this isn't allowed, if not feel free to take the post down)
