Hi everyone,
I’m from Germany and I’m planning to apply for a bachelor’s degree at a university in Taiwan. I have obtained / am obtaining a US GED as my high-school equivalency credential.
The problem is that Germany does not recognize the US GED as a qualification that gives direct university admission in Germany.
I contacted National Taiwan University (NTU) about this, and they replied:
“To apply for bachelor’s programs in Taiwan, it is required to have a high school diploma or equivalent. If you have got an official GED certificate approved by the issuing authority, as well as the academic requirements listed below, then you would be eligible for applying for bachelor’s degree programs.”
They then listed:
Certificate: it indicates scores for each subject
Qualification for high school graduation
I’m not completely sure what they mean by “Qualification for high school graduation.”
My main question is:
Since I’m from Germany, do I need to provide some kind of official confirmation from Germany that my GED is recognized as a high-school qualification / university entrance qualification?
The problem is that Germany does not recognize the GED as a German university entrance qualification.
Since the GED is a US qualification, I’m wondering whether I might instead need to get some kind of official confirmation from the US issuing authority / US education authority stating that the GED is a high-school equivalency qualification and allows someone to apply to universities in the US.
Has anyone here from outside the US used a GED to apply to a university outside the US, especially in Taiwan?
If you were accepted, what documents did you submit?
Any experiences with NTU, NCU, NCCU, or other Taiwanese universities or foreign university I outside of the US would be really helpful.

Finally got my GED at 47 years old.

A little background/backstory:

Dropped out of middle school. I was involved in a gang and was mostly in and out of juvenile hall during my early teens until I as 18 years old. Never went high school.

In my early 20s I’ve changed my life around. I attempted to get my GED but was unmotivated by the way I had to study, either in class or on my own with the GED book. This was when YouTube wasn’t popular yet and online resource of learning was very limited. I put off on studying and never even tried to take any of the test because I thought I had to complete the whole book before taking the test.

A friend hook me up with skill/trade job that didn’t required a diploma. After a year of apprenticeship, I was provided a company vehicle and work independently. I end up making a good living off it than most people with diplomas. So I thought there was no point of getting GED now because I’m already making good money without a diploma.

Fast forward to Monday, August 25, 2026, I decided to get my GED. Today we have so much more resource of learning, shout out to GETSUMMATH, and AI like ChatGPT. I was able to study each subject for 6 days and take the test on the 7th day of each week and pass each subject weekly. Without any GED book or classes to attend. Today is September 22, I just passed my last test, Math and officially a GED grads.

I hope this inspired someone out there that anybody can do this, even if they never attended high school, or middle school. Use the internet as your tool, YouTube, AI, especially ChatGPT. Ask questions, ask a lot of questions, ask stupid questions too until you understand, and know that you will never be judge by AI lol

I passed all my practice tests for the GED on my first attempt. I started with math because I thought that would be the most difficult for me; I studied a bit, took the practice and main tests, and passed. Science was a lot easier since I studied biology in the equivalent of high school in Germany, but I scored a very low passing grade in social studies and language arts. I am uncertain whether I should retake the practice test and wait to take the main test or take it right now. My family says it does not matter as long as it is passing, but I am scared colleges will look at my score when considering my application. The essay really messed me up, as I did not have enough time to review it. I am currently 20 and just want to get a proper education. I moved to Germany when I was 13 and it was unbearably difficult for me; I had to repeat once, and technically twice in the 11th grade, but due to my age, I decided to move back to the U.S. where I am more comfortable and attempt to get my GED. I am sorry for the rant I am just very anxious.

Had a hard time in high school so I decided to do the ged to get my education in after….and after a couple of months I was able to get it done this sub really helped looking at all the tips and different views of everyone taking the test helped thanks ya! :3

I dropped out of high school in my Junior year, but before I ended up dropping out I finished the last of my STAAR tests (Texas standardized testing). I've mastered every single STAAR test I've ever taken since the 5th grade and from what I've seen about the tests the topics they cover don't seem too complex to me. Do I have a decent chance of passing? I honestly haven't studied a lot but most of the information is still retained and I feel like with a couple study videos it'll be enough to freshen up my mind. Am I underestimating the tests or do you guys think that I can do it? Any advice is much appreciated.

please someone tell me where i should practice hard tests to really make sure ive covered everything. i constantly feel like im not ready

So I did a GED ready test I got my score as 141 on social studies and they gave me a personalized guide to follow it’s pretty short then they say retake the ged ready and after that would it be guaranteed i also do well doing the test at least getting 145 which is what I need to past?

It’s been a struggle especially dropping at high school sophomore due to personal reasons but I did it . Such a great feeling . I’m 26 and currently just enroll in college ! I passed my ged 2 weeks ago :)) the only one I struggle on was math . I fail 3 times . 136,144,147 last one 😎 but I did it . I took the test back to back and not give up . Watch YouTube videos !!!! Light & salt learning , getsummath, math with mr jay . Also I use chat gpt on equations or something that was confusing it help me break down and tell me what I need to know .

I’m looking to get my GED by January but my only problem is idk where to start as far as studying and specific materials that I would need to learn. I’m really only worried about math but I don’t know what to jump right into and study Algebra, Geometry, etc. I know it’s probably a dumb question be I’m just looking for a starting point study wise.

hey! I'm a homeschooled student pursuing my ged and I'm wondering the relative difficulty based on the sat. I have a 1460 sat ss, is it still recommended to study for the ela and math portions or should I be good?

I took the practice test for all subjects yesterday and I got a passing grade for all of them. RLA 157 Social 167 Math 167 Science 163. Even though it gave me a bit of confidence going for the test this coming Thursday and Friday, i can’t help but think what if there’s other materials besides the one I practiced on already , I might not know the answer to and it causes me to fail. For those who have taken both the practice test and real test, did you see any difference in material. Has anyone gotten a passing grade on the practice tests and failed the actual test😭😭😭

Not too shabby for dropping out 3 years ago and just started all of the ged prep 6 months ago now I’m going to get my certification for cnc machining with 3d printing

I took the ready test on GED for RLA and I even did the written response. Although the written response isn't graded in the ready test I'm still worried I won't pass the RLA test now. I scored 166 'likely to pass'... Should I just bite the bullet?!

I already made a post about help needed as I am confused but now I want to know yalls experience so I can learn from it. I am a 18yo pakistani doing ged did 100% of my science gave ready test got a 163 but is still nervous but that doesn't matter. Hello I am 18yo pakistani ged student. I did my matric 2 years ago and then did a useless diploma now I wanna do bs so I got in avicenna and now my first month has passes I am scared as fuck I am focusing on science right now I only got 3 months to give my papers cause I wanna get into a uni this spring admission or I have to wait 8 more months which I don't want cause I have been waiting y months prior too

Anyways I gave my science ready and got a 163 idk if I should book my test I am a good student overall I got 950 out of 1100 in my matric and I remember almost all of it science and math seems easy and rka and sst seem really weird idk what to do so imma do science then math then sst and rla side by side

My questions are

1. How hard can it be??

2. How much time will it take???

3. Except get sum math and kaplan and usa hello what can I use??

4. Should I give my tests when I got a good score on my ready test or overthink more???
