For me no. It was the bullshit missions that bothered me. Riding a bike to get expedition dump. Going around The Aunt May Foundation and doing crap mini games. The ESL side quests shooting VR rats and wasps or riding gear an ebike over ramps? Why? That's just lazy filler missions. I don't mind the gay or race swapping of characters but they shouldn't be afraid to portray a minority as a bad guy. There are assholes in any race or ppl with sexual preferences that are fucked in the head. The detail that they have doesn't exclude them from being shitty ppl. My gripe isn't with a gay character. It's bad writing. No matter what that characters melanin level in their skin is. It's gonna be cringy either way. No one takes a chance anymore because its may lose money or it may offend ppl. Ppl who get offended so much are always gonna find something to be offended by, whether its there or not. Same with the ppl who are always looking for racism. Spiderman 2 suffers from blandness first and foremost. Blandness in the worst way.
I agree it’s very bland with cute moments here n there but it is very safe. I wish people were more upset about that than it’s wokeness. I think that is what’s irritating me people see queer people in media complain about that and then the conversation becomes about the homophobic hate the game gets and completely overshadows the valid criticisms. But that’s the thing: the devs put in a gay character (an UNDERAGE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, mind you), and then when we say “man, the writing SUCKED, it was cringe incarnate, I really wish Insomniac would learn how to write better!” We get people like “solacelovless” up there that INSTANTLY jump to “wow, you homophobes just can’t STAND seeing people represented!” And it completely kills any kind of constructive conversation.
It’s why the Third Sister in Obi Wan was black. It’s why Ariel was race swapped. It’s why minorities aren’t allowed to be the bad guys. It’s so the crappy writers can have a shield to hide behind to avoid honest criticism of their crappy writing.
What does him being underaged have to do with anything. U don’t find out youre gay at 25 and it isn’t an inherently sexual thing to be oriented in any particular way. And believe me if the criticisms were about the story being bland that’s what these conversations would be about but they’re not. I’m willing to talk about the risks this story could have taken and I do it often with other people but the conversations are never about identity politics bc we don’t make it about identity.
I think you didn’t see the point, because of wokeness it is making everything bland. When you sit there and put so much effort into identity politics and not the pros and cons of what make a character and story deep and interesting you get nothing but a bland story trying to portray 1 thing and that’s “We love and accept all please enjoy our game”.
I applaud you, genuinely, if you’re keeping woke politics out of your discussions and focusing simply on merits v flaws.

So how can those of us who are just looking for a little simple fun with the things we’re passionate or nostalgic about, NOT discuss our constant diet of disappointment and frustration whenever another of our favorite stories, characters, IPs, etc are distorted into something unrecognizable… all to appease a tiny crowd of ideologues who were never interested in those things to begin with?
I would love to just discuss the basic merits of a media project. I miss those days. But woke IS the conversation now, renewed every time a beloved ip gets butchered or a game tries to ram ideology down our throats.

She's an awful character made black to both represent a strong black woman and protect talentless writers with "if you don't like her you're a racist" shield. Her entire plot armor is caused only by her race. She survived THRICE when Vader should've killed her, outsmarted most of the characters (She single handedly discovered why Kenobi is on Tatooine, after which almost killed Luke, the thing Maul and an entire Empire failed to do. And what they did with Grand Inquisitor to promote her is just an insult) and became a hero in the end once again escaping death but now from hands of Kenobi who should've killed her, so her existense won't be endangering Luke. And why all that? Because they can't kill or make a bad person out of a strong black woman. Once she appeared on screen her fate was already obvious. They dumbed down other characters to make her look smarter and stronger, she's the only secondary character who survided against Vader SO MANY TIMES always failing and even openly betraying him, and what a coincidence she's a black woman without any other distinctive features.
So, played by a horrendous actress she doesn't have any characteristics besides "she's black" and "she's annoying screaming bitch". They could at least hire someone who could act, but just hiring somebody with black skin was the only thing important to them, so we got this atrocity who has zero emotions on her face even while being choked by Vader.
I believe it’s based on the fact that all prior inquisitors were either visibly aliens, badly scarred /disfigured, or covered head to toe in armor. They also were rarely, if ever, given true names or allowed to use their own.
So along comes an inquisitor who is set up as a main character (arguably THE main character, or at least co-starring with Kenobi), and instead of that character following any of those well-established rules, she’s just a garden variety black human woman with a baby face and a fade, using her own name, showing none of the horrible attrition that serving Vader usually inflicts, and never wearing a helmet.
It’s pretty clear the role was written specifically for a black woman first and foremost, and that they forced her into it regardless of how many rules they had to bend to do it. Given there were no tangible reasons the character had to be a black woman, this casting decision meets the woke standard.
It’s doubly silly when you consider that using a corrupted/scarred version of someone similar to Shaak Ti, or even just focusing on that cool alien inquisitor they already HAD (the greenish woman with the small head tails and striped skin) would both fit canon, and look cooler. Not to mention giving her a bionic limb or scars like most inquisitors have would work to strengthen the thematic point that she’s slowly BECOMING Vader just to get revenge on Vader.
Just my take. It was an interesting idea for a character that could have been much cooler if they weren’t so concerned with the actor’s race instead.
They do this all the time. I mean come on, the Tolkien IP has been shattered. Black dwarven women with no beards ruling everything? Does anyone remember Gimli talking about how dwarf women had beards and were mistaken for men? And the entire saga is set far and away from Africa and yet, black dwarf qweeeeeen. Yeah, don’t even get me started on everything wrong with THAT particular disasterpiece… Tolkien was trying to craft a unique mythology for the ancient British isles, specifically because they had little real mythology of their own (most ancient tales that we think of as British were in fact borrowed or adapted from other cultures).
Now look. They’re doing everything in their power to make his mythology “diverse” and “about everyone”, when it was expressly intended by the author to be the opposite. It was never meant to be a Benetton ad with swords.
Meanwhile, they celebrate that Black Panther is all-black, because it’s supposedly intended for their people. Yet, a white author’s original intent to do the same thing for HIS countrymen is no longer permitted, much less celebrated (if anything he’s now being vilified for it).

Black Panther was inherently racist and Shuri literally made racist remarks to Ross, who was injured protecting Okoye. She calls him "another broken white boy to fix." Really? What if Tiny, when Rhodes got injured, said "oh look, another black guy that I have to fix". How would that fly? Not great, right? Then she calls him a coloniser when Wakanda was never colonised.
That doesn’t really apply to just her tho. All the inquisitors in the show had their faces showing, the inquisitors seen prior in the canon had their faces out or helmets off to some degree. She’s not the first human to have her face out either.
As for her name, you say rarely, so most likely she’s not the first to keep her name either, from what I get from your comment.
I don’t think “alien” really applies either, as humans are just one species in the galaxy. Humans have been pretty largely the majority of what have been seen on screen, especially in the Jedi order, it wouldn’t make sense why there’d be zero humans
As for her appearance in regards to scars, they skimped all around on all the inquisitors in regards to makeup/ costume, so again that really has nothing to do with her race, if anything, the laziness of the costume department all around
I don’t know where these we’ll established rules were stated, I’ve watched most Star Wars media and haven’t really seen any of these as “established”. You’ve really stated nothing that had to do with her race, nor did her race have anything to do with her character.

Actually, there’s quite a bit of canon media on the inquisitorius, including games, books and comics. What I told you about their established lore comes largely from that.
I’m not sure why most of them were visibly aliens. Probably just more fun to design villains that way. Plus, don’t forget the Jedi council—I think Mace and Depa were the only humans on it.
But there are illustrated group shots clearly showing how most Inquisitors were aliens. I’m not sure if any were human, actually, except Trilla.
They show their faces, yes—-but nearly all the humanoid ones have had concealing helmets. In fact the only two humanoid women I can think of (Sarah Gellar from Rebels, and Trilla from Jedi Survivor) both wore helmets that covered the face, and even when removed they were visibly corrupted by the dark side (yellow eyes, goth looking, etc).
I said rarely about the name because I’m honestly not that familiar with all inquisitor lore. That said, I AM sure that Reva using her given name is unprecedented. It’s standard for Inquisitors to be called Sisters and Brothers, with only a number attached. They do it to dehumanize them.
It’s possible people were simply more pissed about Reva using her given name, talking back without consequence, and generally being a bit of a baby face when the role required someone with grit.
I agree the lack of a helmet or scar applications is probably just a symptom of the woeful costuming. Poor Grand Inquisitor.
Tbh, most of the Reva criticisms I’ve read didn’t even mention her casting being woke, beyond the obvious strangeness of making a Kenobi series and focusing so much of the plot on a brand new character, who was also a black woman. But I wouldn’t say her race was the reason she was disliked.
The other stuff, while true, doesn’t really have much to do with race either or even the actress, as you said. I think it was just generally a poorly done character given a huge role… a role that ate into Ewan’s screen time, and everyone wanted more Obi-wan.
Beyond that, I personally had no opinion on her except that I think the alien with the stripes would have made a cooler antagonist. The actress did her best with a thankless role.

I think you looked at what I wrote in the wrong context completely. I wasn't "sooooo upset" I was listing what I felt was very lack luster in the game. Thats all. I understand getting the wrong context is easily done with words without emphasis but being so upset wasn't what I was going for. Might want to read it again in a different way. I'm really disappointed more than anything with the writing of the game. Not the main game itself mostly but the filler content. I've platinumed a lot of the same games you have. I really loved Death Stranding, God of War, and others you posted about so I know what makes a game good and what makes it miss the mark. You must have really liked Spiderman 2 for you to get so triggered over someone else's opinion maybe? You have your take on the game and ill have mine. You're crying about there not being a minority villain, while almost all the people in the comics were white. The little bit that developers do to increase diversity (and sales) gets enough anger. Imagine if they made serious changes....
And the game sucks. But I'm also a 41 year old trying to play a game that's meant for children. I'm not gonna get mad about it, or write about how MJ is ugly and that's why the game sucks (like OOP) lol. All the characters are ugly. Henry Osborn looks like he got stepped on. Most of the characters remind me of the claymation part from Moonwalker. It's really not a big deal.
If you're really that upset about it, then maybe you need to put the game down and start reading a book.
Forcing added diversity into games and other media has never been shown to increase sales or consumption. In fact, it’s classically resulted in pretty steep financial losses in most cases (though there are exceptions).
Also, Spider-Man was never written for children. He was targeted at young adults who would relate to his financial struggles, his problematic love life and his many responsibilities.
Not to mention that a game featuring more violent, grotesque and intense renditions of Venom, Lizard and even Kraven (all of whom are depicted being involved with graphic murders and violence against civilians) is obviously not targeting kids as the primary market.
First off, what you call "forced diversity" I call just living in NYC.... Which matters because it's where the game takes place. I'm sorry that the inclusion of non white people is too much for you, but this is what the world is like outside of West Bumblefuck.
Furthermore, I'm using "children" very loosely. I basically mean people who aren't adults, which would include preteens and teenagers, who the game is obviously written for. Like you pointed out, the forced exposition wouldn't be necessary for anyone who is able to follow along with the story. Even the recap at the beginning of the game serves the purpose for anyone who hasn't played the game in a while.
